It's more than just that. It is also about exploring, making social relationships, crafting, and overcoming PvE challenges. RvR is just one aspect of DAoC. It's a good concept, but it requires a healthy population. Something that DAoC doesn't have. Now BG's are more fun because they are smaller and you are more likely to run across other people. But in the 4 + years I played, I always took my time leveling, trying to explore different areas, instead of going to the areas with the best xp, I wore armor that looked cool, not player crafted ugly armor with perfect stats, I BG'ed at the busy ones and I enjoyed going on the raids and other PvE adventures. I RvRed mainly with my guild at the time and usually defended a keep or tower. That is what DAoC was to me. I played with different characters and none were cookie cutters. I would often times choose odd ball specs and find a way to use them to the specs strength.

I started DAoC a couple months ago, I find the RvR to be fun. Laying siege/defending can be pretty awesome..I still need to find a guild tho I think without a guild Im missing out on aspects of it. While it can be fun, I find it sort of lacking as well..could be because Im either Solo or in a PuG..not sure.
Still think UO was the best PvP I ever played. Boy do I ever miss those days. |

I like the rvr system in DAOC, but I don't agree that it is the best. imo Shadowbane is a better pvp game where pvp actually affects the game world. You own a city and can own more than one. It really tests your skills as a nation leader. You drop everything on death (except what you are wearing) pvp is truly "open" - the only safe place is newbie island (good to lvl 20) then you are fair game. |

DAoC hardly has the best PvP. RvR is nice if you get a good fight, but good fights are 1 in a million. RvR is plagued with flaws..
1) New Frontiers- Way too big, too much time to travel, waste of time traveling, if no group to travel with you die by stealthers. If you want to play DAoC, play a caster. It's a casters game. Also, prepare for long waits to join a group, long waits traveling in the group, and then long waits for the fighting to actually begin. Then roll your dice and hope you're lucky enough to not be instantly rolled y a group superior in numbers. Basically, to play the game you have to be a caster that's lucky.
So IMO, a horrible PvP set. Great if you get balanced 20v20 battles in a Battleground. Amazing if you get that. But the fact is, all the battlegrounds have unbalanced populations of 40v20v10 and NF is a caster's game where melee classes do nothing but die. |

I would hate DAoC if it was "even" and "fair" all the time. Life isnt fair, why does a game have to be? it adds to the excitement. I play a RR9 Scout, solo all the time, join up with (hate this term) zerg to defend or attack. If im on a bridge and attack someone, then get jumped by a "stealth zerg"..hey, I didnt have to be on that bridge, I didnt have to attack, I took my chance and I won or I lost. Sure, i bang the keyboard and say CRAP, damn zerg, i could have beaten them 1v1, but the unpredicabilty, the excitement of it all has kept me playing. |

ffs Nitro! Join a good/friendly guild , or won't they accept you? or start your own group! TDs actually gives less exp than staying out in the open now, 150% exp bonus in classic and SI. and 200% exp bonus in rvr-zones. |
