ok to put it so people can understand and wont flame the OP anymore...his question is about MMO's being put onto Consoles...the OP has heard that MMO's WILL NOT be going onto the Next Gen Consoles due to the Update issues? well from what I hear the XBox 360 operates like a computer so I dont see why not...and if what I hear is correct the PS3 is supposed to be able to do the same...so I dont see why they cannot update and besides it has long been rumored SWG is going to PS3 when it is launched We have enough Youth, How about a Fountain of Intelligence? |

Console dont quite work like a pc, im not an expert but with a console you put the dvd and you play that all you dont install it on your hard driver, how can you manage update with an uninstalled game, i think nge fail to hit console because of that.

Well, the PS2 has memory cards, so patches can be applied that way to the game at load time. The XBOX has a harddrive, so via XBox Live, you get updates that are applied from the harddrive every time the game loads. So, it is not "technically impossible" to quote the red names favorite phrase of late on the offical Sony Forums. |

It possible to some point like bringing new items but when it come to modify a file its become harder, like changing the path to a file (ex. read sabersound B instead of sabersound A) plus it will take extreme loading time. I think soe didnt really think about that problem or made a giant test lab with nge. |

The newer generations of consoles such as xbox 360 and ps3 all have or will have external hard drives and I imagine if a game were hot enough a larger hard drive could be made available for them. The only real limitation on consoles that I can see is input devices and there is no reason that keyboards and/or mice couldn't be made attachable with adapters.

I already know that next-gen console will have hard drive, it think ps3 will have 60gig hard drive, but can a mmorpg can subsantain massive update on a console without suffering lag problem if the game isnt install on hard drive. Ex. swg on a console, after 2 week of playing swg console, it had a 30 meg update improving idontknowsomething, the game isnt read from disk drive first but from hard driver i dont know, it take us back in time. if everything run perfectly lag less im still wondering if developper can make major update on a console game, like soe did with swg. |
