Today, MMORPG.com is pleased to bring you an interesting introductory interivew with Howard Marks, the CEO of Acclaim, publishers of the new martial arts MMORPG, 9 Dragons. Marks is interviewed by our own Lead Content Editor, Dana Massey and the two talk about everything from Acclaim's recent rebirth to the game's progression system.

9 Dragons is new to our games list, so check out the game's overview and maybe even take the time to enter your opinions into our hype meter!

MMORPG.com: 9 Dragons is new to our readers. Can you briefly introduce the game and its core defining features?

Howard Marks: I fell in love with 9Dragons because of its poetic atmosphere combined with outstanding graphics. I have always been a fan of martial arts since the days of Bruce Lee. When I saw this game, I was dying to get play it because it was so close in style to the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I always wanted to be a martial arts hero.

9 Dragons is a MMORPG that is placed in the historic times of the Ming Dynasty. The story in this game is part historical and part fantasy. I love this mix because it draws on a rich past with chivalry and honor while you have creative license to make the game fun.

This game’s strength is the use of martial arts combat in the gameplay and how your character grows in skills from novice to master during the game. The 9 Dragons are each a unique clan and you need to become a Dragon in order to save the future of China. The game takes the standard MMORPG gameplay and adds some cool and innovative features such the way a player evolves its fighting skills through training and experience.

Read the interview, here.

Cheers,

I'm actually really interested in this! This is a genre that I absolutely love! Personally, I am big not a fan of fantasy based MMO's, just burnt out on the theme. Website, needs just a bit more info to it ;-)

For now, at least. ;)

I love the setting and the martial arts focus. Major props for that. I'm very interested in seeing how this matures. :D

I should add some comments about the website. The look is very nice, but I seem to be having issues with it in Firefox. That may be related to my extensions, so hopefully others can comment on that. I can't download the movie and clicking on the (very cool) scrolling posters doesn't seem to trigger anything.

Anyway, it looks very nice. I think that the scrolling wheel is a pretty nifty approach.

Stop Playing!  Acclaim?!?! Semi historical Asian MMORPG?!?! Video teaser looking crazy good!!!

I will refuse to get my hopes up. As i have been let down so manytimes  before. But i do give ACCLAIM some extremely strong credit not only for the theme they picked but the direction they are hinting in going. KUDOS let hope you can walk the walk as much as talk the talk...

Faranthil Tanathalos
EverQuest 1 - Ranger (level 35)
Star Wars Galaxies - Master Ranger (Pre- CU)
Everquest2 - Ranger (level 30)
WarhammerOnline - Shadow Warrior (level 30)

Although the levels of my character are low i have played each game for about a year each except EQ 2. I am a casual social gamer. I live for the experience of the community not leveling and thus my views come from this perspective

See my post in the screen shot topic regarding this game.
If you are familiar with martial arts world. This is the one game you do not want to miss.
IMO, this is the best martial arts MMORPG ever been made.

There are a few from China, a couple one from Hong Kong and a couple from Korea. None of them could hold a candle for this one.

Not everything is instances like Guildwars. The game is zone based but zones are large and load time is minimal.

I like the game concept and everything LOOKS great. But i have to admit i am a little worried about the quote when asked about end game. It almost seems like it's an MMO with a purpose... but... what happens when you fulfill that purpose? Granted, i'm sure they've thought of that and have their ways to expand upon the game, but it simply stands as too close-ended IMHO.
