Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Alrighty! Now when I first started playing EQ was in 2000 (I think) right after Velious came out. I has been playing ever since, up until the beginning of 2004 (roughly May). I have been through many many MMOs since, but none with the same feeling as EQ. Well now i'm back. I got a better job (working for Atari) and I can pay to maintain an account. Here's my impressions so far on the game:

Starting out:

I was amazed at the improved UI interface. Although customizing it back to what I was used to was an arduous task. I decided to make a Mage but alas in the character creation screen, gone was the ability to explore each classes little house looking thing in the selection screen. It was a cute feature, but not at all necessary. The models look sharper (never bothered upgrading my video card so I would know) and everything within the tutorial feels clean (except some collision issues but where in EQ does that not occur, lol!). It was quite easy to get the hang of escaping from the jail and continuing on...

First five levels:

This is where things are a little different. The quests are long, boring, and the mobs are much tougher. These tutorial mobs are some tough suckers. They can take alot of damage and dish out quite a bit (of course being a Mage doesn't help. But once I got to level 6 and whipped out my first earth elemental, the mobs were reduced to swiss cheese...

Present state:

Currently, i'm almost level 8. I hadn't been playing but maybe 3 hours last night. I like the nice charm item I got for free starting out (+5 str +5 sta +5 cha +5 intel +5 wisdom). That's pretty good for an early level charm item! So far so good. Gonna attempt to slaughter the kobold fort and stuff in the next 30 min and see if I can't complete the tutorial by tonight (crossing my fingers). It's a bit tough of a tutorial but it's nearly impossible to get lost unless you get too curious. All in all, I rate the tutorial an 8/10. Minus 2 points because of the difficulty of some mobs. A cleric won't stand a chance in the tutorial...

I know it's everyones' impression/opinion, however, I found the tutorial alot easier to start a character than the old way (pre-tutorial and pre-lvl 10 safety net). I didn't find the mobs tougher, in fact I thought they were easier than the mobs outside the tutorial. Or perhaps I was conservatived and stayed on the rats and bats longer than most :)

I made... well, can't remember, but I think I stayed in the tutorial longer than lvl 8. I'm thinking closer to 11+ before I entered the real world.

Then, since this was not a newb toon, but a training toon (cause I to had left the game and was just trying to remember how to play), I didn't start on quests and I really didn't start grinding. Newp. I started doing "Tasks". The exp was great the rewards were equal to or better than some of the newbie gear I'd twinked my toon with... and they were fairly fun and led into adventures I'd missed the first 20 times around.

I hope you find this second time around as fun and entertaining as you did the first. I sure am! :)

My dog barks some. Mentally you picture my dog, but I have not told you the type of dog which I have. Perhaps you even picture Toto, from "The Wizard of Oz." But I warn you, my dog is always with me.
