Power is sometimes given to those who do not use it wisely.

I played this game for a year and when I play a game, I like to play it to the end.

I went so far as to get a SIM so that I could try out the features you have control over in your own simulation.  The lag was less but all I could do was change the water level, change the position of the sun, ban people, advertise my SIM, allow fly, allow scripts, allow damage... really minor.  I could not change the max potential damage or the limit to physics in my sim so as you can assume, people took advantage of that to the extreme with uber weapons and bombs.

If you like to create things, you don't need to put any money into this game at all.  You can create everything you want.  I made lots of great things but in the end I realized the things I made did not compare to the wonderful things that you can find in many of the latest games coming out.

You can exchange money for Linden money but be warned most people are scheming ways to take your money away from you.  It's best to just create and observe to be safe.

The isn't much to do in Second Life except chat and be involved in the latest drama.  It is mostly comprised of Dance clubs and clubs for people with fetishes for sex, Beastiality, S&M, the mafia, Gor (slave owning and trading under the guise of sci fi) etc and I am against all that.  The dance clubs broadcast music and many of them are not legitimate (i.e. they are not paying royalities to the proper music industry organizations)

So if that's what you are into, then Second Life for adults is for you.

Sounds to me like the OP is faulting the game for not being a good action game.  I have no idea whether it is or isn't, but I don't care.  It is a great game for socialization, and that's its forte.  What's more, it's one of the few, few online games out there anymore that puts a premium on socialization, whereas there are literally dozens of titles that focus on action.  So to the OP:  Leave those of us who like to socialize in online games this single outlet, please.

Yes, it is a very, very sexy game; it's not for kids at all.  That should be fine if you're an adult and enjoy a sexy atmosphere in your online games.  If you don't, play something else.  Again, there are dozens of games out there in which sex isn't nearly the focus it is in SL.

If you like to socialize, enjoy an adult atmosphere and like to create things like clothes, houses, if you like to dance (and god forbid, strip or cyber) and talk and cut up, if you like to roleplay alternate lifestyles, then SL is well worth a look.  Don't let the prejudices of people like the OP, who seems to have stumbled into the wrong game and instead of quietly shutting the door behind him/her on his/her way out, chose to stay for a year (!) and then attack everyone else's ideas of fun in a public forum, scare you off.

I tried SL also and.....yeah.
Did you guys hear about the guy that got arrested for pedo trading on that game. Its pretty sick. I don't think the devs had horse ****ing in mind when they made it either. I was in one of those "dance clubs" or whatever. And smack dab in the middle was a chick doing a horse. I mentioned it and people told me to get out if I didn't like it. People are really, really, rude in that game. The drama was ugh...its not worth it.

I DONT RECOMMEND IT EVER FOR ANYONE...EVER. ::::12::

DISCLAIMER:: If you don't agree sorry, but its my opinion after playing for the trial.

SL is not all about sex and so forth, it is what you make it. The game allows a vast amount of avatar customization options and you can make just about anything you can think of in game. I play more for the building and designing possibilities and to do so with others with such interests, so do others. Some play to role play in game to act out their fantasies doing things they'd never do in real life. Some play to wander around using it as a visual chat room. You play how you want to for what you want out of it.

Each sim is referenced for PG or mature content, don't like the sex and so forth, stick to the PG sims. Going to mature areas and complaining about naked avatars and people doing more sex oriented things is like going to a strip club then complaining about the naked people and other mature activities. Also if you want nothing to do with mature content play teen SL where it's not allowed.

Since I don't bother with most mature SIMs the most I see are the odd naked avatar running around or the odd knob with a prim dick hanging out. Sex is not everywhere, it's in the mature SIMs and some wander out without changing outfits but it is hardly a sex game. Again, calling this a sex game since you spent all your time in mature SIMs advertising that content is like saying all there is in someplace like LA are nude bars since you spent all your time in them while you were there. Also those that play are suppose to be of legal age, it's not a kids game, that's what Teen SL is for.

I found a really good review of this game in a blog where this chic totally tells it like it is:

tokendissent.blogspot.com/2005/12/linden-lab-second-life-waste-of.html

The OP is right. Don't waste your money. If you want to waste your time on a free account, go for it. At the least you learn more about how things are made.

Nothing is as exciting, as frustrating, as achingly hopeful as the word 'if'. Such an amazingly large word should have more letters, don't you think?
