I have been interested in game development since i started programming over 2 years ago.  Now i am well versed in C++ and i am pretty well versed in VB.  The problem is...i really have no idea where to start as far as game developing goes.  What i need is a web site or a good book, or for someone to actually tell me.  So...could somone please help me.  Thanks in advance!

Id check out
www.gamedevs.com

lotsa resources there, but here is a few pointers

1)START SMALL
- make simple text based games, or simple arcade games
Tetris is good to experiment with Direct Draw
Pac-man is good for experimenting with simple AI
Card games is good practise
DONT QUIT
if you start, keep going untill you are totally done, IE a higscore, main menu, and it plays like a commercial game, if you only do the main part you never learn about touching up and fixing little details and thats a problem with programmers letely.

2)Dont be egar to join a team
-Make a few little games first, once you udnerstand how to make games, your more likely to be a use to the team.

3)Dont give up, keep pushing, your first gaems arent going to be groundbreaking, heck they're porlly gona be cheap rip-offs of alreayd made games, but rember your learning.
