In our latest Q&A, Designer Mike Paddock discusses archery, magic and other major aspects of their upcoming release. We also, as usual, feature two exclusive screenshots. This week, Simutronics shows us a swampy area. You can read the full Q&A and see the images here. |

I have been following Hero's Journey for a while now with greater and greater anticipation. Now, when I read this, and since my "preferred" class is "archer" or "ranger," they really pique my attention. I pray this game does not disappoint because it seems to have all the things I wish for in a MMORPG.

What's all this "Ranger" business? Last time I checked, Ranger wasn't even a class. My only guess is that by "Ranger" he meant "Archer", but... I can't say I care much for that... I mean, it really depends. I like archers, but I don't care for rangers. Rangers have that tendancy toward nature that just isn't my bag. "Archer" is much less specific than "Ranger", so I think it's a better idea to choose that name, especially when placed in the same category as Warrior, Rogue, and Monk. Besides, not all rangers use bows. (In D&D their specialty was dual wielding, and Aragorn didn't use a bow...) Anyway, I'm not worried, seeing as we can choose two classes, and spend Hero Points in whatever way we like. Hmm... Archer/Wizard... Archer/Alchemist... Archer/Necromancer...? Interesting also is how we choose a primary and secondary. Finally, it's been confirmed. This brings me to wonder how much of a difference it really would make. I'm leaning toward Archer/Alchemist, and a friend of mine would more than likely play an Alchemist/Necromancer. I have to wonder just how different our characters would really be from one another. I didn't like his elusive reply to the question about everyone being a hero. I would have much rather him give details on the Nemesis system he mentioned rather than just... mentioning it. Anyway, good read. |
