NCsoft and MMORPG.com have teamed up to give you a test drive of Auto Assault, the new vehicle-based MMORPG due in-store in April. We have a limited number of exclusive keys to give away that will give you full access to the game for an entire weekend. The test drive begins at 4pm

(Eastern) on Friday the 13th and ends at 3am (Eastern) on Monday the 16th.

NCsoft has lifted the NDA, meaning that you can feel free to discuss your experiences of the game and that the minimum age for testing has been lowered from 18 to 13 to comply with Auto Assault's 'T' (teen) rating.

We're allocating keys on a first come, first served basis, so sign up as soon as possible (after Jan 13 @ 4PM EST) for a guaranteed spot. Once you have your key, you'll need to add it to your PlayNC account (details on how to sign up and do this will be sent to you with your key). PlayNC accounts are free and don't obligate you to play or buy any NCsoft game.

but I didn't understand how to register to this great beta event.
I already have an Ncsoft account (with no active games).
Do I need to do something extra?

I am confused. How do you sign up for the offer? It says sign up now, but I don't see a link on the announcement page to actually sign up.

Erm, the day the beta-test starts, is the same day that you can try to get one of the keys. So you must wait until the 13th.

Maybe so, but if you read the page which it directs to, it does say starting on the 13th, you will be able to try and get a key.

'cause from the look of autoassault site - http://eu.autoassault.com/ , they specify sites who give those beta-keys.
And I've checked Eurogamer (don't want to advertise or something) and they have a subscription for this beta event.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the announcement clearly says "sign up now" but they will not "begin issuing keys" until Friday at 4 etc.

Sorry about the confusion.  You will not be able to get a key until Jan 13, 2006 at 4PM EST.  At this time a button will appear where you can click and get your key instantly.  The countdown timer on that page shows how long until this time.  I have revised the description in the news item here and the event page to better reflect the timing of getting your key.

Nice system requirements. My new system fits nicely into the recommended specs. Heh, no wonder I never got an invite, I forgot to update my computer details on their signup page.

Hope I'm not too busy at 4pm on Friday. I'll most likely be at work.

[edit to add:] Thank god I can download everything now, the patcher/downloader says ETA is 4:45 hours. EEK!

You expect me to download before I even know if I get into the Beta weekend?  Err...I am interested, but not THAT interested­.

I doesn't mind downloading ahead of time, as long as I am in.  I won't download and then pray to get in...and once the keys are awarded, I supposed downloading would be a nightmare.  Well, great idea, bad design.  Need to rethink such stuff a little.  Giving the Beta keys 5 days before the beta happen would have gotten you much better results and everyone would have download ahead of time.

That's a pretty good point.

The pre-download option was an afterthought - initially people awarded the keys would have only had access to the download after they got their CD key...we thought that to help out the people on slower connections we would see if NCSoft would agree to an early download option - which they did.

I can see your point, however compared to the earlier plan this one should better accommodate more members.  Note that we are not authorized to give any keys out before the scheduled start date.

w00t got my key! Thanks MMORPG for getting them to provide the download and keys early. I couldn't imagine trying to download the client tonight.
