Don''t Panic!!!!

Well I have been at L2 for about 3 months and I must say this game is one of the most difficult games out there. However I mean that in a good way.

One of the strangest things is the PvP. In L2 PvP is a game for the rich. If you can not afford to loose your stuff, just stay out of it. An Armor drop can set you back quit a bit. Because of this, there is no rampid PKing going on. Sure, there are PKers but they are the exception to the day not the rule. Most people are simply struggling to get enough money to be able to afford some good gear. The possible exception to this is the noob areas. For whatever reason, people like to give noobs hell. (although it is considered a "dishonorable" act to kill noobs it sure happens alot)

The economy is harsh. Anyone who goes into this game thinking all they need to do is kill mobs and level up to get cash is doomed to fail and will leave frustrated by level 20 to 25. One really needs to realize that the "shop" is the key to financial success in L2. Simply stated "buy low, sell high". If you do not find some sort of market/item to sell regularly, a player can not survive on hunt drops. The expense of heal pots, DSS, escape scroll will quickly outpace your mob hunting income.

Socially, L2 has one of the better more mature crowds I've played. that said, one must realize "more mature" means more focused and even cut throat. People at first are very standoffish always on the lookout for a potential PKer, scammers, or just a plain ars. However, without a guild a player is more or less dead in the water. Guilds tend to be tight nite and supportive of one another. (tend) Without a good guild one is helpless against PKers as you have no guild to help protect you, no real way of getting in on any real good money making opportunities. The bad side of this is that most guilds are not interested in picking up noobs. Most will not even touch a new player until minimum for level 20 when a player proves that have some staying power. Mostly its due to the fact that guilds are limited in size and active members who have proven they are not here today gone tommorow are critical. So as a noob ingame, don't expect to get into a guild for awhile. However, that doesn't mean you can't make friends

(yesterday, I was playing my WoW character and the trash community is really enough to get you worked up. Is the average WoW player like 14 years old? I listened in on some general chat and I swear any of it would have gotten you mercilessly killed in L2 for being an obnoxious punk)

All in all L2 is a very highly challenging game. You must adapt to the L2 "style" of play or you will not have any success at it. Playing L2 like WoW, thinking hunting mobs is all you need to do, will ensure that you will fail. For the most part the community agrees with this style. Items acquired and levels gained are hard won. The community appreciates that.

Its survival of the fittest in every sense. The mindless PKer rarely survive the game more then a few weeks as they are inferior players who can not adapt. The player with a strict focus on hunting/leveling will also not survive long. Only those who grasp the economy of L2 and are social have any chance at all.

As it should be.

Great post. I wish more people would come to this site to read discriptions like that, instead of listening to the media/haters

Don''t Panic!!!!

oh yeah, I would requemend not "loaning" anything to anyone for any reason. In any MMORPG. Sorry folks, thats just how it is. I've seen people get "scammed" as far back as my Asheron's Call days.

Yes you could hunt without SS and Pots, but honestly you are going to need some.

Money saving tip

The best way to hang onto some of your cash early on (after level 20) is to use the Blacksmith of mammon to upgrade your weapons rather then buy them from players or shops.

When you get your first D grade weapon, don't sweat upgrading right away. (I'm assuming the reader is new to L2 and not twinked. At this point I am also assuming you have gotten into a guild)  Get a group going and start doing the "Seven Signs". Collect all the seals you can by killing the mobs in the dungeons. (its also decent loot and great xp) At the end of the week, you will be able to trade them in for Ancient Adena. Save up as much as you can. At then end of the event week the Blacksmith of mammon will begin to spawn randomly in the various catacombs. You are going to need to do some legwork to find him but it is worth it. When you find him you can do a few things, trade for a new equal weapon or upgrade to a higher weapon. Upgrading is going to cost you a few hundred thousand. Its not as much as it sounds since you can just constantly save AA. (see www.lineage2.com for the event details)

The key to all of this is grouping. Ive been hanging around the assorted catacombs since about level 22 or 23. It basicly makes weapon upgrades free if you put the time into it.

::::28::, well if you give your Seal Stones to the Seal owners in the first Week off the competition, the one where you can sign up for 1 off the Seals,
and you seal Wins you get a Double amount off Ancient Adena back so you should not trade em in when one off the Seals has Won, but before that... Aldo theys a risk if your Seal losses you get nothing
