Mummy rank 7 weaver on BW in Lotr

After 9 years of mmog's one thing I have yet to see is a version of the game that allows you to experience the game in an offline version (and I doubt I there will ever be such a thing) but I wonder if it has ever happened. I know  Diablo could be played this way (although it isn't a mmog) but I always enjoyed the fact that you could use your character and play it offline and I feel that this way of playing has a undeveloped but useful niche in gaming left to be filled. So when the day comes that your favorite game shuts down (ala earth and beyond or AC2) you can still experience a form of the game using a copy of your main character instead of just forever losing all that time spent playing a game (and a useless box on your shelf).

Forum Poll

Do you feel mmog type games should include an offline version allowing you to play a copy of your characters?

diablos were both infested with cheaters just because you could play your characters offline.

and i dont really understand why someone would want to play mmorpgs offline...isn't the whole idea of MMORPG to be a game you can play with others?

Much of the content of an MMORPG involves groups of players, so I see no reason for an offline single player version. Being able to level your character both offline and online is certainly out of the question, as this would give an opportunity for cheats similar to the ones used in Diablo 2.

After all, there are many good RPGs you can play, like Gothic, Arx Fatalis, Dungeon Siege, Sacred, etc, etc, that the content is tailored for a single player.

Currently playing:
* City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant.
* City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.

Phantasy Star online could be played in both online and offline modes, and i think it counts as a mmorpg.
