My God....are all WoW trolls social retards? |
Hello again guys, I'm back. Recently I have been doing a couple of ldons and all sorts of abbreviations & terms are being used that have me befuddled. I would appreciate your help to unfuddle me. 1. What does "dps" mean? 2. Some of the players during the mission wanted "C." What is that? 3. What does "gimp" mean? 4. What in the heck does "rez" really mean? Initially I thought it meant bringing a group mate back to life, but yesterday it was used by someone who was freezing NPCs during an ldon mission. 5. I need to create an "assist" button to target the NPC that the MT is focusing on. When I use the "assist" button, do I highlight the MT & then press "assist?" How does that work exactly? That's it for now I think. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Anheuser |

1 ) dps = damage per second - matters alot to some people /shrug 2 ) "C", well, if you have an enchanter in the party, it might mean "Clarity" (at your lvl, a common request). But it would depend on who was in the party at the time... 3 ) gimp would be an insult. ex: "Newark, that was a really gimp move" could be serious or meant as humour, depends on the people involved and the situation :) 5 ) actually, what I do is; line 1 - /target Newark Where Newark is the MT. This way, you don't have to actually target the MT to get the assist. Newark [Edit - Doh! Never answer posts in a hurry! <lol> I think neschria is right "MEZ" not REZ :)] |

This has all been pretty well covered already, but here's my 2cp: 4. Rez generally is short for "resurrect". Perhaps your groupmate meant 'mez', short for "mesmerize". A rez returns you to life. A mez makes a monster stand there drooling on itself until you are ready for it. 5. Another tip, /assist off will keep you from auto-attacking on assist. This is a good idea. You only have to do it once, and it stays off until/unless you decide to turn it back on. Which you shouldn't do. Trust me. (If you can't trust a shadow knight, who CAN you trust?) I do the same as Odenathus, but in one line -- /assist Playername , and I change the name whenever the MA changes... (Err... MT, MA... Same for most situations.) For example, if Mirin is the MA, I'd put /assist Mirin.

Thanks again guys for your sage & always prompt replies! Neschira, I'm a little confused about your "/assist off" explanation. If I hit the assist hot button (following Odenathus' directions), won't the auto-attack automatically turn off once the NPC opponents are dead? Do I make a separate hot button for /assist off? Thanks. Anheuser |

What neschira was saying (and I skipped), was, when your grouped with an Enchanter, they have the magic ability to "Mez" a mob. This means they can freeze it in it's tracks. This is very handy, if you get multiple mobs on a pull, you only have to deal with one at a time. However, there is a catch, if anyone touches a "mez'd" mob, it breaks the spell, freeing the mob to attack. So... it is a good idea, when grouped with an enchanter (and in higher lvl raids, a requirement) that you have your "auto-attack" disabled. So, for you, a paladin, to actually hit the mob, you would need to hit your attack key. With "auto-attack" enabled (or on), when you assist the MT, you start hitting his target right away. Sometimes he's not ready for that. Tanks often need to build up agro on a mob (so that when mez is broken the mob doesn't run right to the chanter and kill them). So, with "auto-attack" disabled, when you assist the MT, you get his target, but you don't try to hit it until you actually hit your attack key. Now "/assist off" and "/assist on" are not the same thing as "/assist %T". By the way, you should have re-mapped your attack key, long ago to any other key than the "a" key! I have mine mapped to "q", but any uncommonely used key is good (so that you don't attack an NPC by just trying to talk to them). |

Thanks for giving that explanation for me. :) I know the terminology and the /-commands can be pretty confusing. I should have mentioned that /assist off doesn't turn off the assist, it just turns off the auto-attack option. Nowadays the default attack key is Q, iirc. (I just recently re-installed. It was something like that.) I always re-map mine to Numpad 0, mainly because that's what I press out of habit at this point. |
