Originally posted by cheflee I also think to split up the years into subdevisions. Quarters or something, I don't know, but at least make the game last a while. I want to have to play for at leassssttt 3 months before maxing out, and I don't want to spend a week per level either. |

What if they just made it before harry potter ever existed. When the Order of the Phoenix was strong and had a lot of people. The time when harry's parents were still alive. Most of the main characters are stil there, the death eaters are beginning to get very strong and all the schools are there. New villains could be alive and made up. I believe that Hogwarts should be a tutorial or such. Even though harry potter isnt alive, it is a great time period. I don't know about other races, but customization can still be awesome, because looking at the movies, there some great clothing ideas that could in the game.

I think hogwarts would be best as sort of a extended tutorial (even a bit longer then AoC) I also think it would be a neat idea to somehow work in the test as well like your owls and your newts and that would determine what job you could start out as but not make it so that if you didn't play enough hours and got a poor newt test mark you could still become a auror you might just have to start as a lower position such as a jr. offcial while as someone who got a perfect on their test would be able to go strait into the auror department. as for the skills (transfiguration charms ect..) you could possibly do it as in morrowind where you can pick one major two minors and the rest could be your misc. so you could still max everything out it would just take longer to max. out your misc. and your minor subjects. |

I really hope they do make this game it would be truly great. The biggest problem i see would be the area because in the wizzard world they have a few wizzard only parts diagon alley, hogwarts, hogsmede and some more to but most of it is the normal muggle world with wizzards living in secret or right beside them but have invisbility charms around them and such. so this would be the hardest part i think because you would have to make the whole world or at least all of britan. I guess they could just make it so that that all the wizzards lived in certain area's and for hogwarts remember that it alone has 142 stair cases and secret passegways and the like so any suggestions on how to get around the wizzarding world?

Hmm I dont think that Places would be much of a problem, you've got the burrow and a few more places around it (like the Lovegood estate) youve got all the forests, the one at hogwarts, and the 8 or so in deathly hallows. Youve got quidditch stadiums, diagon alley, diaagon alley (the nasty one harry accidently went to in the 2nd I believe...) the ministry, which is absolutely HUGE, hogsmeade, the graveyard in the 4th, hogwarts ( just because you graduate doesnt mean you cant visit :D) the malfoy estate, also pretty big. Gringotts, prob some goblin places, and that would be enough, in my opinion, to start a solid game just with the wizarding world, and, if you would be able to fly on a broom, you could go around in the sky, and prob find hidden places and such.
I think it would be cool if you could teach at hogwarts, might be sorta hard to do, but I think that it would give a mentor/apprentice effect and have a whole new reliance on the community, course people can get fired ;)
just my two cents ^_^ |

Originally posted by pyros98 Erm, i havent the strength to read page after page of posts about Harry Potter, so this has prolly been addressed, but EA cant do MMOs? No... maybe not, but EA Mythic can eh? As one of the four giant stable publishers, along withSony, Nintendo, and MS, EA can bring this title to market for sure. I won't be playin it tho :P |

Wow, nice rez of a thread from 2005. Please let them R.I.P. By the way, I don't agree with you that the relevant market here is health care. You're not regulating health care. You're regulating insurance. It's the insurance market that you're addressing and you're saying that some people who are not in it must be in it, and that's -- that's different from regulating in any manner commerce that already exists out there. - Scalia |

http://www.petitiononline.com/honline/ I am new to this forum, but I'd like to say, I would like to play a HP MMO. The above webpage shows a petition for such a MMO. Please have a look and decide for yourself if you want to sign it or not.
Thanks a lot.

Having watched the first four movies for my first time last week (haven't read the books yet), I'd think that a Harry Potter MMO could hold tons of promise. Just hogwarts in and of itself creates a wonderful setting of a large castle and lots of land around to adventure in. Add in other wizard castles, hidden lands, and magical battles around "muggle" landmarks adds even more content for the game. Although some argument can be made for the typical mmo classes (caster tank healer), I'd see the game as far more magic focused then melee focused, which could change the genre quite a bit. Add in the obvious distinction between factions (dark wizards and "good" wizards), and we have a pvp setting as well. As for a bunch of kids running around, well, I suppose that argument holds some merit. But I think a lot of people who don't really know the Harry Potter storyline (I guess I'm technically one of them as well), don't realize that the original audience for these stories is now either graduating high school or currently in college. Thus, the content can be made more "mature" to mix with the original target audience. We've seen the movies become darker and more action packed as time went on, so I think it makes good sense that this kind of MMO could appeal to both younger and more mature audiences. Plus, what's so bad about being a bit of a kid again, even if you're over 30. :) |

As far as I know, this Hogwarts Online thing is some kind of 3D social medium for fans of the series, where they can interact in areas from the setting. As for a Harry Potter MMO, it was under development back in the day. Take a trip back to 1999, when Origin was still around and headed by Lord British. That was one of Origin's projects, but it got the ax from EA, and Origin is gone now. I don't know if EA still holds the license for a Harry Potter MMO. If they let it go, I bet they're really kicking themselves now for doing so. |

An MMORPG in this universe not only seems natural but inevitable. The books are done, and only two more movies are left. Universal should have the Harry Potter theme park finished by 2010. With no more books or movies, where will that leave EA? What will the fans do? They are already begging for an MMORPG in their communites. ___________________ http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/12/13/ |

hogwarts would be only another fantasy world game copy that we see borning every month, but with only a limited kind of spell casters, that to be loyal to books or movies would limit what the players could do or it woundnt be loyal, just using the name to make money and publicity but as i already said, and i keep saying, every game can be good if it is make to be good, no matter (much) the theme IF PUSHED KILLING IS AS EASY AS BREATHING |

Not to rain on anyone's parade but i seriously doubt there will EVER be a Harry Potter MMO.The reason why isn't one that been mentioned yet(at least in full).jJK Rowling will NEVER approve a game of this type and let people pollute the world and characters she's created.I'm very sure she is likely aware of mmo wprlds like Second Life and WoW and would never let what's she's created be turned into one of those with a Potter's World theme. Why?Because of what human beingS would/could potentially do in and to such an mmo world. She's said in the past that she's VERY strict on what get's licensed and what doesn't.Video games based on the movies which are based on the books all have to meet her strict standards or they simply don't see the light of day or get made.A videogame based on a particular movie in which the game can't deviate away from the events in the book/movie is one thing, an mmo in which people are set free to create their own little adventures and stories is a completely different animal. Why doesn't anyone think that she said no other writer will EVER officially write a book based on the HP universe?Simply because Harry Potter is HER baby, and under her control has turned her into a billionaire and the richest woman in all of the UK.For those simple reasons and many more there will NEVER be a Harry Potter MMO (at least while JK Rowling lives and breathes). |
