"Chaos and evolution!"

This'll propably be an awesome game, only one thing is nagging me about it. It is very realistic for most parts but why isn't there permadeath? I think it would be an important part of a "historical" MMORPG...

I have an idea for permadeath system that wouldn't lead to "I have to start all over again". You'd be able to make a new character with some penalties, but mostly with the same ammount of skill points etc (some kind of skill loss of course), but you could distribute them in a brand new fashion. Social statuses would be lost (but you wouldn't have to start as a slave). This would make dying something to be afraid of, you'd really have to think who to piss off and who to be friends with and always watch your back.

You may think this is a grazy idea, but I think it would be worth a try.

Not stats, just items, gold, ect.

And there is permadeath, just for legends.

Everyone else will just go to Elysium when they die; the Roman hell. They'll have to get out in order to survive. It should take quite some time to get out.

are you sure? i thought it was just losing items ONLY IF YOUR KILLED BY A PLAYER (if an npc kills you it says you DONT lose items) and than you go to the asylum and depending on the life you lived you can easily or difficultly get out of it...I never heard anything about permadeath....but its sumthin to explore

somewhere in the faq I recall saying only if you die to a person and they loot all of you, do you lose all your stuff. But if a bear or some other npc kills you, your stuff is pretty safe. I quote...

If your death is at the hands of a PC (Player Character) then you'll drop all your items, reappear in Elysium (the afterlife) and have to negotiate your way back to the mortal realm. If your death is at the hands of a NPC (Non-Player Character) or monster (bear, tiger etc.) then you'll keep all your items but you'll still be heading for Elysium. On top of that your character's statistics could be affected too. Our best advice is not to die. Real life and Roma Victor are similar in this and many other respects.

Ya, that could be it. Tho I don't see myself being killed by npc's often. Ther isn't any need for very much lvling, and I will be trying to stay on the good side of the police.

I am not an NDA breaking tester or anything, so can't be certain, but from reading a lot of the official forums, it seems to me like there is a very good chance that you'll die at the hands on an NPC. And that straight out one on one PC v PC fighting won't be all that often.

When Player X meets up with 4 other players and they head to a certain area, they hire 5-10 NPC guards each. Say 9. So you have 50 players. Who come across you and your mates and their NPCs etc. So in the odds of things, you'll very likely get killed by an NPC.

Again, is conjecture as I have no first hand experience. Time will tell! =D

I think it will depend on who you are as well. Obviously the barbarian players will be facing npc's a lot as there will be full npc legions, as well as player legions with npc allies. As you said ther will be bodyguards as well. I am wondering if these types of npc's should adopt the same kill power as normal players? I mean it doesn't make sense to be scared of loosing all your stuff to a player legion, but from an npc legion you ride free...
