I'm an avid CoH player (with a sprinkle of GW to fix my exploration urge) Just read that DC comics will be coming out with an MMORPG in 2007. They will be working with SOE to develop. http://www.newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=2eb6ff56571006e50ec33d2997522886&threadid=36109 A lot of things can be happening between now and then. I'm curious how the Marvel Lawsuit will affect the DC development of another superhero MMO. |

Hmm, i have to say somthing... 2007 that in still a long time... (2 years might not seem that long for a few of you but it is a long time) Why dont we enjoy the games we play today and worry about the game we play in 2 years lol :P. But that is really cool, DC in mmorpg sorry but i right now im immaging somthing like CoH or CoV but better!
Whoops nvm it says CoH damaged Marvel from making one :( im starting to dislike CoH but oh well ill go try out the 14 day trail lol |

Common sense is no longer common. |
I agree with GW that 2 years is a long time. Especially in the MMO world. That's nearly a lifetime. The one thing about the new DC MMO that sounds nice is that it will be added to the Station Access plan with SOE. I really can't complain paying $21.99/mos for 5+ MMOs. It's a great system that keeps me from getting bored with any one MMO too fast. As for Marvel's suit affecting DC. I doubt it will have ANY affect at all. Not only did the suit get tossed last I had read Marvel ( while I still love and collect many of their comics ) tends to play the Bully Role. They go after the little guys in hopes of squashing them and gaining a little extra money on the side. I highly doubt they would bother to tangle with DC. I'm not sure which company holds the lion's share of the comic book market right now but they are the top dogs. It would probably turn into a messy, drug out fight that would end up in a draw in the courts. Marvel is just going to have to realise that they don't own the rights to the concept of a hero driven MMO. That'd be like SOE suing over anyone else having a fantasy MMO. I will keep an eye on it's development. Batman has always been and always will be my favourtie comic hero. So having the chance to jump into that universe would actually be a little appealing. |

| "What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out." |

I disagree, 2 years can creep up and suprise you. Many things happen in 2 years, but honestly, I don't think it's that long of time, even for a development of an MMO, some take even longer to make. Game goes into alpha testing, then beta testing then gold. that can take 2 years or more. The marvel lawsuit is unfortunatly alive and strong. Currently they are in the discovery phase with many of Marvel's inital claims thrown out. How the lawsuit affects the DC MMO and ANY mmo will be most notable in the type of characters you can make and how they look. Next thing you know, you get other companies sueing your own beloved MMO due to copyright infringment due to the fact that you can make a Gimli clone or a Rand Al'tor clone. (different discussion that has no immediate place in this thread) I for one frown upon the cloners, they need more imaginiation. As for GW-Gamer's comment that CoH damaged Marvel from making an MMO? |
