First came pride, then envy.

For those reinstalling to try this out, it isn't out yet.  The patch doesn't come out until mid september.

IMO just by reading the posts on here they being ArenaNet need to do both revamp what they are doing for new folks and then as well revamp for vets.

While the living story is great it doesn't give enough content in a episode hence t he need for an expansion......   I am sure it is a money issue why we are not seeing this.

Highly doubt that there is any money issue. Highly.

Yeah, but back when they announced the story journal they were going to add the option to replay some of those segments. The revamped lvling experience serves as an added improvement bonus. Aint nothing wrong with that.

I'm also totally fine with everything they're improving. I would definitely replay the story with new character just to enjoy it all over again!

Thanks Anet for constantly improving GW2! You guys rock!!

@Dakeru According to (I think) a WoW Dev some people have a hard time realising that shiny corpse equals loot. A lot of systems we here on mmorpg.com think are self explanatory are actually confusing for others.

To all of the armchair developers here:

They wouldn't overhaul something like this just because they were bored. If they're doing this it's because their polling is showing that they're losing a lot of new players at early levels. At least wait to see the final result before bashing.

Exactly ^^ they wouldn't say lets divert additional resources from feature x that players are asking for because we fancy changing the levelling experience.

rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW (1000 hrs on main mage)> oblivion > LOTR (480 Hunter) > Rift (230 hours mage) > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(900 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3

My thoughts exactly. Also the game lacks new content as but they overhaul and overhaul and...

Yeah might be that they find out that the end content is lacking :P

Anyways who cares if they loose them. they already pay'd for the game anyways it's B2P u know.

Noone is gonna by a B2P game if the end content is lacking.

Keep the end game fun and entertaning and they bring in new players.

B2P has different things going for it then p2p or f2p.

What they need there  is more cosmetics peeps go NUTTERS over that.

And nice stuff that looks good.

But everything that they have in there makes u look like a complete retard

I still use a "normal" armor skin from somthing that i made myself the sure items are crap.

Unles some teenage mutand hero turtles fan needs a Turtle backpack.. (doh)

No. The point is not loosing new players, those numbers aren't big enough to work for it. Hundreds of thousands of players did enjoy the first levels and skipped the game later because they did not like either WvW or dungeons & fractals or the lack of expansions (LS is not worth mentioning for the latter group). This change is because of the china release as everything seems to work for china only over the last year. ArenaNet does not care a single coin for the western market any more. After all its NCSoft. Ever played and watched the progression of Aion?

Don't play NCSoft games if you're out for western content and development. After Aion and GW2 I have seen enough of them.

You should pass on your detailed analysis to Anet.

But you're overlooking the fact that NCSoft is only the publisher, ArenaNet is the developer. Like with City of Heroes, while NCSoft may direct the money, the development studio (Paragon Studies for CoH, ArenaNet for GW2) guides the content development and game direction.

What the hell haha. What is Anet doing? This is totally coming out of no where. Where do they get the information that this is something needed? These are fairly insignificant changes - so why is it only being addressed now, 2 years after the game's launch? Why do they keep going back and revisiting the 'core game enhancements'. It always seems like they are trying to 'improve the core game' before they move onto new content. This game is in a major lull, nothing exciting is happening. Where is all the hard work and development going? They have such a massive team at Anet working on Gw2 projects. Where the hell is there work? What do they do all day?

YES!!!!!

This has always been my number one reason for losing interest in the game. I've always despised the whole "Do one story step, then go grind 2 levels by running all over the map, get another bit of story, grind another two or three levels, rinse and repeat" approach.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Don't play NCSoft games if you're out for western content and development. After Aion and GW2 I have seen enough of them.

And you've gotten you're info from....where exactly?

it also baffles me that even now (nearly 3 years since the game was released) this still needs to be said. GW2 is not, and never was, marketing as an endgame 'raiding' loot treadmill progression game. Nearly every post I've seen complaining about 'a lack of endgame' is referring to this, because they want GW2 to basically be WoW 2.0. Which it is never going to be, and the people enjoying the game don't want it to be either.

The game has always been about freedom. Basically playing the game how you want to. Not being forced to grind for gear to stay relevant. Perhaps the closest thing to that this game has are fractals and ascended gear, which are totally unnecessary for every other part of the game.

- As for the new player experience, this IS important. Believe it or not, GW2 constantly has newer players (english speaking ones) trying out the game. I've helped out quite a few since I returned to the game just a few weeks ago. And the early levels are very important to get right, because most people WILL approach this game like it's WoW, and need a bit of handholding to 'ease in' to the fact that the game plays very differently.

Revamping the story is part of this; And while the downed state change is pretty amusing, it shouldn't be surprising. These forums are but a small fraction of the MMO playerbase. The actual metrics show that a large portion of MMO players (sadly) need these kinds of changes.

I'd love to see an expansion for this game, more skills, a revamp of WvW, etc. But that can't be done without a budget, and that involves keeping newer players around. Since coming back to the game I've noticed quite a few changes to the game that are good. They boss encounters have gotten better, their story writing has gotten better, the traits change is a welcome one, and EotM is a lot more fun than I expect it to be. Heck, even sPvP has improved quite a bit.

The changes we want may not all be happening at once, but they are happening. Little by little. And thankfully, we don't have to pay a subscription while we wait.

Don't worry about the past. Look at how to shape your future.

May the game be ever in your favor.

The only problem I found with the personal story was how long it took to in-between leveling to get to the next part of it. It got to the point where I just didn't care about the personal story because it was too spread apart between leveling.

And oh, look, more people asking for an expansion just like in every article for GW2... ArenaNet keep ignoring us though.

I dont see how the new player experience needs an overhaul.  This game is one of the most new player friendly games around.
