One million is nothing to sneeze at. Congratulations SWTOR. I love this game too. Still subbed although am playing FFXIV ARR right now.

This is Star Wars. 1 mill is nothing but a failure considering the bold statements about SWTOR being the true WoW killer. I guess the TORtanic didn't avoid the icebergs after all....

Oh look the guy who creates troll threads about SWTOR is here.

In case someone has missed it, look through his history.

That number is meaningless anyway.

If they would show the retention rate, or concurrent users per month, then it would be a better indication of the population.  Most of those logins were probably new people testing out the f2p option, or past accounts checking it out again as f2p.

I'll bite...

-1 million different accounts login during a month?

-1 million total logins/month?

How did they come up to that count?

One million unique logins (different accounts) per month.

That count has a name - Monthly Active Users (MAU) and it is a standard way of tracking/measuring activity in MMOs that have free to play access as part of their userbase. If a user logs in that month, whether it is 1 time or 100 times, it is counted as 1 user. So a MAU of one million means that one million different accounts log in each month.

Definitely meaningless.

Well, except for it being one of the most common KPIs tracked by online service operators (devs) and one of the most important statistics that investors watch to gauge the growth and health of the service.

But other than that... meaningless.

Imo it's close to meaningless without any supporting data.  It does tell us how many log on every month that's about it.

I play as preffered and several people in my guild does too. I had quite a lot of cartel coins back when swtor went f2p from being subsribers from launch, so I got pretty much everything account unlocked without spending any cash.  I preordered RotHc as sub, and went preffered in January before launch.

I've never spend cash on the cartel market,  i did buy a 2 month sub in may for the added sub benefits. That's all I've spend on SWTOR since before 2.0

I know a large number of those 1 mill is subscribed,  but i wouldn't be surprised if it was less that 50%  If i was told only 25% of that 1 mill were subscribed i might be,  but i wouldn't be shocked.

Beeing preffered realy isn't that bad once you've spend a ton of credits on unlocks.  However you definedtly should subscribe a couple of months, grind credits and buy accountwide unlocks if you intend to unlock all possible features.  Unlocking all features with cartel coins is just too expensive.

It is an interesting thought process .

When you ask for f2p if a game is successful it is because it has gone f2p. So the f2p players are the ones to credit for the increase.

However when you talk about the money the company makes suddenly the same argument that the numbers are high because it is f2p is used to say it is not making money because most of the players are f2p.

Basically the game is doing badly because the argument is there are too many f2p players and not enough subscribers and yet they are said to have the absolute worst f2p structure set up.

For every argument the only constant element seems to be that SWTOR cannot possibly be doing well no matter how you slice it. No matter what number they show you nothing convinces the critics that this game that was suppose to die after a year is still making EA money. It must be as sour as sucking lemons the fact that the game is still populated and making money.

I find this thread hilarious with haters refusing the acknowledge that this game is a success.

Although the 'haters' are a lot more bitter this time; more than when SWTOR was announced to have made 168 million in 2013.

It's a great game, I love it, I play it from launch and I don't think I will get ever bored of it. Happy to hear from EA main guy that game is doing great. Not that I do not know that as a fact LOL. Logging every day and seeing plenty of people around just confirms it.

And as someone says F2P is not bad, as you can get everything on galactic market for ingame credits.

Sorry that is false. The biggest blow for F2P player is credit limit. And you can not remove that through GTN or CC.

F2P is like a limited trial version good enough to play only storylines. Anything more and you are sevearly limited.

Sorry but that is False:

over 6 months ago Escrow unlocks where added to the cash shop.

these one use items allow non-sub players to get credits held in escrow when they reach cap. they come in 50k, 200k, and 600k.

And the best part is that like everything else is the cash shop. these are sellable on the GTN (most players sell the 600k ones for 350k, the perferred credit cap)

I currently have 36 million credits on my main, and I haven't subbed in over a year.

So before ya hate, get yo facts straight!

For almost 4 years they have bashed copy/pasted the same taking points, tried to spin any news ever released by Swtor.  They are in desperation mode they can't come to grips with reality that Swtor is doing find.

How many games have posters that wake up in the morning and spam new troll threads (go look at the games thread history I think one poster has 4 locked threads and he was at it again today with two more ) It's absolutely amazing the lengths some of them go to in order to hate a video game they don't even play...I personally will never ever understand their thought process.

Successful things are always 'bashed' for being successful.

WoW is probably the most 'hated' game around here and its doing just fine with 6.8 million subs and 1 BILLION dollars in annual revenue.

SWTOR has people playing and made money. For people that play SWTOR, that's a good thing.

For people that don't play SWTOR, doesn't matter what SWTOR is / isn't anyway.

So lets all try and follow some mmorpg.com logic.

1) a lot of people log into this game every month.

2) a lot of money is spent on this game by players every year.

3) this game is a failure and a good example of how not to make an mmo.

welp... I can't see any flaws in that at all.

Look at it another way. The game was made by Bioware, was a Star Wars game, had full voice acting, and had next to no competition upon release. It still managed to be hollow and had to go from subscription based to F2P within the FIRST YEAR.

I knew I was forgetting something....all caps words.

Well, at least you were able to see the flaw in your logic.

It's the sad state of the genre. The next big title has as many threads discussing issues with it's business model than issues with the game itself.

I was aware that SWTOR made a big recovery in it's F2P re-launch. I played, and subbed for a few months. There were always people around playing at every level of the game. I never once felt the game was lacking in population from day to day, but if someone had asked me how many that was, I would have picked a number higher than this.

Grats to SWTOR. They really turned this game around. Judging by the pre release interviews, I would have never guessed they would have so much space content and now player housing. Seems like they listened to player feedback.

I never really thought about it before, But I always assumed that number would be greater.

Its 1 million unique logins, not total logins. For all we know, the game gets 900k logins daily. FI'm amaized that Blizz and Bioware are still the only 2 companies out there giving actual active player/sub numbers.

that 168 mil was in their cash shop alone IIRC, that isn't including subs. it is hilarious that people are still trying to say it is a failure lol

haters usually hate on the more successful games anyways.

I've got a new level 55 that I am playing. Each night I do some pvp, a flashpoint and I typically go collect all the datacrons on a single planet. This means each day I visit a different planet at a different level range. You know what I found much to my delight? People... People everywhere, on every planet, at every level range. Constant chatter in general, good, healthy, playing population.
