No need to defend the game. If you're having a good time, then great. If not, sorry you wasted your money. Personally, I love the hell out of this game. Never before have I been so engaged in a story. I'm typically a PvP player as well, and I haven't even touched the PvP yet because I'm enjoying the PvE so much. I'm also not trying to hardcore level in this game. I'm taking it easy. Few hours here and there each day. Up to level 28 and about to login again.

As far as 'WoW killers' go - the only thing that will kill WoW is time. No singular game will do it. That is an unreasonable expectation. However, if you try to play ESO and skip all of the dialogue, then I don't think you would enjoy it much. The questing is fairly linear. Typically I would mind this, but I find the stories to be very intriguing. Much more engaged than I ever was in SWTOR.

The OP is right on the money. I played this game during all the closed and open betas, by the time open beta was out I had to force myself to try it out because it was so boring.

This will play out very similarly to many of other super hyped MMO releases of the last half decade.

This game will be F2P within 12 months.

Now: Skyrim
Later: ?
Played: M59, UO, EQ, Runescape, DAOC, SB, EQ2, WoW, EVE, Darkfall, AoC, FFXI, FFXIV, WAR, SWTOR
BOYCOTTING: EA/BioWare/Origin/SOE

I come here to tell you that no matter how hard you try to defend eso the game will end up buy to play or free to play.

Having try all major mmos i come to say that this game is worse than starwars and gw2.

Why it's worse?

Not because of graphics or sound or combat or anything like that.

The game misses one very important aspect of all games. To captivate the interest of the players in a magical charming way.

In one word the game gets boring very fast.

It's the first time in my life i played only a few days and not even care what will happen next.

At least swtor and gw 2 gave me that feeling.

This thread will not end well for you, friend.

Plenty of people out there that buy a single player, console game for $60 and play it for a week, beat it, and say they got their money's worth.  Even though an MMO is supposed to be persistent and last, from a monetary investment standpoint, it doesn't matter to most people as long as they get a reasonable amount of enjoyment out of it.  I know many people that love the game based just on the questing and story, and admit freely they probably won't keep playing once they cap and/or finish all three factions story-lines.  The worth is all in the eye of the beholder.  Will there be player drop-off?  Oh yeah.  Will some people's predictions be wrong?  Certainly.  Does it matter?  Not really.

OP, if you only played a few hours and learned you were bored then the game is simply not for you.  Bridge, checkers, jump-rope, jacks, those games are boring to me.  I don't play them.  I don't care to rant about how boring they are though....

What about Monopoly though?  Starts off fun, but lasts way too long.  We should really have a serious discussion about this :P.  I don't know if I hate it or love it!!!

I think the main point here is that we as customers support the creation of mediocre trash and dont speak out enough about it to stop it from being produced.

I think our MMO community is now being harvested for $$$ without the desire to create truly unique and amazing experiences.

this game is better than those you mentioned in my opinion and the people playing it.

The amount of tryhards on this website bashing ESO is getting close to comical, and I'd advise anyone playing the game (I don't), to simply not visit any forum about it.

Most of the random stuff people whine about goes completely unnoticed by the majority of individual players, but when they read garbage like this thread and others, they will get irritated themselves by the same things, like it or not, and view the game in a more negative light as a result.

So basically, focus on the positive not the negative, because at the end of the day, we all play these games because we like them, not because everything is broken in them and we want to spread the whine on the internet. All you are accomplishing with a thread like this is helping make the community of this game more bitter and negative.

I agree with everything you say, except where it seems you are against free speech.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.  You, and people like the OP, don't get to decide what we as gamers play.  It's not your decision.  Some of us are enjoying the hell out of this game.  What makes you so special that you get to arbitrarily run it down in the hopes that more games like it don't get developed?

The OP was flame-bait.  Nothing more.  You calling a game "trash" with no real justification for your views is not much better.

Get over yourselves.

I was like this during beta didn't really like it at all, didn't want to play the full weekend. I dunno why I bought it and now enjoying it, probably cause there's no MMO out that can hold my attention.

The problem here is that a subsection of gamers don't seem to understand the concept that not every game is made to please their tastes specifically, nor do they understand the idea of ignoring the games that they do not like rather than trolling the forums and making personal attacks against those who do. The whole bit of coming on to the forums and calling fans "blind," or "sheep," or making fake claims that the company is scamming you, or taking industry standards and pretending that they are something new, it got old years ago, and for the most part people are sick of the faux outrage and the wolf in sheep's clothing "I'm just looking out for the consumer" drivel that comes out of the same attention-seekers day in and day out.

What an incredibly astute observation by the OP.  I mean no one ever considered or thought of that in the last 3 years.  I guess perhaps the 300 or more threads about this haven't brought this to everyones attention yet.

Why are they 'industry standards'? Why is releasing shit a standard now? That is what you base your whole argument on. Which doesnt work because these games SHOULD NOT represent anything standard or 'normal'. But because some game a long time ago did it its OK for future games to do it? Not only do it but each successive game releases with more and more problems.

After the fails of the mid 00s Rift sort of set a new standard with a very good release. The best release of any AAA  game til that point and still to this day actually. Even GW2 for the most part held to a very good launch in most respects. So those two games were supposed to do away with all the shit Warhammer, Age of Conan, Vanguard, Fallen Earth etc had made the common theme years before. So why after Rift and GW2 have people gotten back into that mindset that shit releases are the 'norm' again? Because of SWOTOR? Tera? A few other crap games that came out since Rift and GW2? I dont buy it. I think people who are fans of a game cling to those failed games to try and make their shit game look good by comparison.

ESO is a semi decent game, when it runs right, which is not very often. I never had a major problem with it even though it wasnt close to what it should have been, but hey it was 'good' enough. For buy to play but not pay to play. The beta was a disaster. The release has been a disaster too. It goes WAY beyond what most people call a 'good' lanch. Just because you personally can log in and play and the servers are up most of the time doesnt make it a good launch. Not when A LOT of people cant log in, A LOT of people have been banned, A LOT of people havent even got the game yet, there are still the same bugs, same performance issues related to phasing, Cyrodiil is more broken than it was in beta. Then you add hackers getting into player accounts, bots running rampant, the ID system that lets you find people in real life if you have any inkling to do so, billing issues, and the list goes on and on and on. It makes for a very piss poor launch. Sure some of these things have happened before in games, but not all of them and not all f the to the same game.

Seriously it has been so bad it isnt even fun pointing out all the problems the game has, its like shooting fish in a barrel at this point. Seems like every day another major problem arises that makes the game a nightmare for people who spent money on it. Are some people having fun? Yeah of course. A lot of people play a lot of other bad games too and dont know any better. Doesnt mean ESO is a great game.

The big difference is ZoS, at least for now, wants to charge people to play it. People might justify some of it if they didnt have a sub but no way no how do they once the money that was taken out as a verifier doesnt come back tot hem (most havent gotten it back yet as it is).

I agree the game isn't amazing, but it's good fun and I'm really enjoying it - I also don't care if it goes F2P or B2P, it's bound to happen eventually IMO and while I prefer P2P it's not that big of a deal.

Of course people who are excited and enjoying a new game will make unnecessary remarks about how great it is, same thing goes for negative comments - that's just how it is, why does it matter?

In any case, don't come up in here thinking your opinion is fact and telling other players how they will feel - that's all you and has nothing to do with anyone else.

Two weeks in and the haters are still trying hard. If they haven't moved on to the next game and still find the need to come hate on ESO then that in itself says something.

These people are worse than Molag Bal. Do us all a favor?  Find your favorite game. Press start and play it and enjoy yourself. Life is to short. Find something positive and you will enjoy it more.

I have no idea what Archage got anything to do with this topic.

Not that i care for what OP said but if fans stop getting so aggressive and stop retaliating to every negative topic about ESO..a lot of problems will solve itself on these forums.

Why can't we have one decent conversation on these forums without a pissing match between fans and those who don't like the game... just once.

Guild wars 2 first month wasn't that great the first day was really bad overflow servers broke and you would see them phase in from time to time. The lag was really bad for a while you would walk 10 yards and get ported back every 10 secs, and lets not talk about the auction house. Thank god there was more then 1 way to do renowned hearts cause atleast 1 part of it was broken. I really like GW2 not hating on it but first month was very laggy for me, and if I remember right Arenanet was banning alot of people aswell, and bots were rampant for months.
