Im sorry but if these reports are true, Being able to log into someones account using YOUR own acct info is pretty drastic and not your "run of the mill" launch issues.
Do you have a checklist or guideline for launch issue problems we could look at? An issue is an issue imho. It will be fixed and forgotten, just as GW2 had issues with logging in, and so many other title releases had problems and fixed.
Gw2 was literally DDoSed with incoming connections. The login issues also were affecting only a fraction of the population, not entire continent. Also I'm pretty sure the account hijack is a result of a larger hack. As you can see the EU cluster is having no issues at all. So yeah, go hate somewhere else. Gw2 had a perfect launch compared to TESO. And both datacenters weren't located in NA.

The general interest in ESO is far lesser.

are u just here to defend GW2? if so many more people play GW2 why do you seem to be so threatened by ESO?

go play GW2 and be happy that it's supposedly such a better and more popular game than ESO.

the my game vs your game mentality is sooo annoying.

It's funny you should say that because I see you write in most Gw2 threads, mostly in negative way. I actually fixed your opinion for you and you never responded me in one of those threads. You were, as usual, talking things you have no knowledge about.

Also I'm not here to defend, just to set things straight, because I see all you whiteknights just love to spew shit about Gw2 and you are obviously mistaken. Sorry if you feel offended :) Don't take it so personally.

And yeah I enjoy playing my game, its just I'm currently at work. Got a scheduled guild WvW event. Cool stuff. Do you think you will be able to play by the end of the day? *troll*

As an owner and player of GW2, I can say that they had many many issues at launch.

Server crashes, login failures, people being hacked, botters botters botters, gold spammers were outnumbering players (exaggeration but not entirely off base), instancing issues galore, lag, lag, more lag, dynamic events bugged, quests bugged, falling through the world, ANet banned people for buying items in game, server crashes (wrote this one twice because it did happen a bit on those first few days), etc. etc.

I'm only stating all of this because you're acting like GW2 was so much better.  It literally took them MONTHS to fix a  majority of these issues..some of which still exist.

With all that said, I still like GW2.  It's fun at times.  Again, I'm only posting this because there seemed to be some confusion regarding the state of GW2 at launch.

As an owner of pre-ordered collector's edition AND digital deluxe I can tell you that I had no single outage in my game. In fact in the first week I became lvl 80, fully geared in the 3rd and had 100% map exploration within the end of month 3 post launch. Do you think I could've done that in a broken game?

Also you are using wrong terms. Nobody got "hacked". People just never learn to use different and/or unique passwords for their accounts. If your password is "123456" or "qwerty" or "password" you are just asking for it.

Also its funny you refer to quests, while Gw2 has no quest system. If you refer to the personal story line, I reached lvl 80 by defeating Zhaitan, back then the fight took me 4 hours in my blue gear Q_Q Maybe the whole encounter was harder, idk.

Also ANet banned those people because they were exploting. ANet is still the standard of how you should house an online game. So many botters and exploiters said bye-bye to Tyria thanks to Gw2's banhammer. I expect no less from Zenimax.

I've never ridiculed ESO on gold spammers because those guys are in every MMO. Then again gold spam ended a week or two after launch, idk why you said months.

The only thing that took 2 months to get fixed was the trading post. In that time my girlfriend had abyss dye drop and used because neither of us thought its going to be so expensive. Oh well xD

I do not know where you are from, Australia or New Zealand, I've never had lag at launch. And I took 2 weeks off work to take my time with Gw2. Yeah they even launched 3 hours before the announcement time, to reduce load. I was there ^^ And some douchebag still managed to steal my charname >.>

But yeah tl;dr; Gw2's launch compared to TESO was perfect. I don't remember a 7 hour outage. I just don't.

Also, why do you think ESO launched with "megaserver" in the first place? It will just prolong the subscription play instead of being forced to go F2P by the playerbase because of low numbers. Such things are annoying, especially in huge worlds like ESO's. This way they can make a game seem alive even with 10,000 players, or less. From what I saw in Cyrodill, there were only a handful of shards to play for.

Hmmm... so you have absolutely no memory of the multiple server downtimes for patches during the first couple weeks? No recollection of the people abusing things like incorrect pricing on certain items to become ver rich very fast? No recollection of the thousands of EU people who could not access the game for what was it, the entire 1st week or so?

Nifty.

Those abusers were banned, as I said in my post. They had a forum megathread about how they simply used game mechanics and the ban was uncalled for. They remained banned, period. Server downtimes for patches...have you ever played Gw2, like seriously? Gw2's patch deployment rarely require full server reset. They require the clients to restart within 3 hours in order to download the patch. Same deploy system works atm as it did at launch.

And idk about those login issues, I had 3-day headstart, and I played for 3 days, didn't sleep for about 2 of those then I got way too tired. Millions of players managed to join in and have fun. That's not what I'm seeing over at TESO's camp.

So the game has been down for over 7 hours now, but that's not the worst of it.

Reading reports were players were gaining access to other players characters, that's just heartbreaking.

This is why the servers are still down - it's an absolute showstopper, this has to get sorted out.

I can't imagine the scrambling and work that's been going on by Zenimax staff these last 7 hours - ouch

I expect there will be a rollback, but only after they identify (and fix)  this security flaw (most likely on the platform side).

So my hat's off to zenimax guys and gals who've been working on this all night so that we have a fun and secure game to play.

Stop making passwords like 123456 and qwerty ok nubs. Game is great btw. Ignore the doomsayers.

You are failing to understand the basic problem:

1. You log in with your username and password

2. You select your character on character select screen

3. You enter game and you are NOT your character - you are playing someone else's character, talking as them and having access to their inventory in bank!

It has NOTHING to do with weak passwords .

When I log in...I log into my account ,with my character. I am in 5 guilds with hundreds of people each. Why then is this the first I am hearing of this? Because it is a myth made up under some bridge.

You login when? You mean when you logged in BEFORE the issue even started. You know, right before the server went down for maintenance which it is STILL down for?

Are you REALLY saying that GW2 has no quests?   Replace the heart with an exclamation mark and there's your quest.  NPC requests player to d X action....when complete talk to NPC = quest.

Anyway, enjoy your server mergers.

To low a population to keep all of the servers they launched with it seems.

Also, this isn't the GW2 forums.  Go defend your game over there.

Well if you refer to the hearts, all the hearts me and my guild did were proc-ing. I read some people were having trouble with getting some skill points due to missing NPCs but damn, I read about heart issues for the first time in my life xD

Also if you call Gw2's megaserver a merger, maybe you should do the same about TESO, no? Because idk ... I play at Gandara and 3 maps are overflown 100% of the time.

Also maybe you should go calm all those people screaming for a wipe of the NA server, no?

For ESO to have had a server merger like GW2 is now doing they would have had to have launched with shards.

I have no idea what you're trying to say about the hearts not being quests.   English is probably not your first language, so I understand there may be miscommunications.

The only time your shard has an overflow is when you were in LA or a new area.  No need to lie.  I play the game to you know.

Anyway, AGAIN, this is not the GW2 forums so I won't be responding to your white knighting of a game in the wrong forums any longer.

Good day, sir/ma'am.

Please put this in your OP for people's reference.

Last night a few North American users reported inventory-related issues with their character account, such as seeing additional inventory items appear, or seeing items that were not earned through gameplay. We've identified and fixed the problem, but the issue necessitated some downtime overnight for the North American megaserver. This problem has not manifested on the European server, so it continues to run as normal. The fix will be implemented as soon as all required pre-testing is complete this morning.

We were already planning to push a new game build to both servers this morning, and we will continue to work towards this. Stay tuned for complete patch note shortly. In addition to this aforementioned priority fix, we are also working quickly to restore our 'send in-game mail' functionality, some content blocking fixes that are preventing some users from finishing quests, and a few other tweaks. Our goal is to have all of these fixes initiated later this morning, eastern US time.

We will update this post as soon as we have an exact timeline for the service to be restored.

You're referring to client side patches, not server side. Those did require server restarts and some downtime. You don't actually need downtime for client side updates for ANY game. Most companies simply don't release the updates until they also do server side updates and put the patch in place, Anet does the opposite and releases client side updates as needed.

Whether people were banned or not has what to do with the fact that something was broken? Nothing. All that matters is that it WAS a proble. The end result doesn't matter does it? I mean, isn't that what you're all doing coming on here talking about ESO's issues in the middle of the maintenance to fix it?

Also, isn't NA server being down this whole time fine? I mean, EU server is up right? So some people can play, some people can't. It's cool right? I mean, it was cool with GW2 when lots of people couldnt login for a whole week, so it must be cool here right? Oh wait.. but we're talking about something besides GW2. Sorry I forgot. Then yeah, it's a HUGE freaking problem then.

Logic... such an amazing tool.

People were claiming ESO has the best launch even better than Rift and Lotro.... this is why you never jump a gun when it comes to MMO launches.

I am sorry but this launch is not even close to Rift or Lotro launch.

Do you honestly believe that ESO is not having sub-servers? I think we got that cleared out at the betas. Also what I tried to say is that I don't consider them quests, the hearts that is, and even if we do, I never read about broken "quests" in Gw2. Some "broken" stories here and there but simple restart "fixed" them.

Also I'm not lying. I also don't get overflow in LA atm because LA is a ghost town now. Are you sure you are playing Gw2 "to"? Maybe do the effort to guest to Gandara, look around. Good discussion though, for a Gw2 player you give all the bad examples. You know the ones that help your case the least.

But it is very similar to wow's launch. This is because its has tons more people than rift or lotro did at the start but an amount of people more similar to wow's launch.

You know, right before the server went down for maintenance which it is STILL down for?

servers down no one at all can log in to theirs or anyone elses. and with all the 1000's of people that I know playing this is the first time hearing of it , clearly a lie gg troll

Are you special or something? Yes, clearly I'm a lying troll and I made up the entire NA server downtime myself and got all these other dozens of people to lie about it too. Hell I even got Zenimax employees themselves to lie about it on their own forums and got one of the devs to change the login screen to give people a fake message saying the game is down for maintenance...

Sorry but Rift had a very bad security problem and lots off people got all there gear stollen and it took them 3 or 4 days to sort it out. I know 2 from my guild that had there accounts stollen and it took them near a week to get them back. Rift fixed this problem by add ing a log in button that you had to put a code into it if you logged into from a diff computor . this code was sent to your email. Rift was down for 8 hours while they patched the game for this fix.

Well, then since this is a well documented case. Zenimax should be able to fix it easy.

Cool story bro. Now since you are such specialist, Please do tell me when were Gw2's server restarted the last time :) You do know that most changes they do also require server restart. But I'm not the one that's going to explain to you how networking works. Basically a server wouldn't allow multiple client versions in. Dig deeper if you feel curious. Their server is based on a hotswap technology though. Its quite modular. And the whole technology behind this is very interesting.

People are being banned in WoW to this day. What's your point exactly in your second paragraph? That there are no idiots that try to cheat in game X? And you can't give a bug that allows you to "liquify" your own karma into gold the same credit as you would a security or stability issue really. Its like calling the Moon a star because it shines in the night <o>

Also as I said, only a fraction of the Gw2 population was affected by that issue. ANet's servers were packed with millions of players. You know, those 2 millions copies being sold in the first 2 weeks. Me and my guild were playing together. From the headstart until this very day.

Yes logic is an amazing tool, you have complete lack of it on this matter.

So what do you think is happening here now? Almost 8 hours downtime and random people can have access to your account.

And by the way Rift security breach didn't happen on 3rd day of launch but months later. Your memory seems to be very rusty.

Well that may off been another one six months later but it wasnt the first one cause we had beaten the game before the first month was up and never resubbed so it had to be on the first month.

Link to ZOS responce here.

Thanks - updates OP

They should refund everyone and relaunch as f2p. This is all probably coming from es fan who is also a hacker and is pissed now and is exacting revenge on launch. Teaching them to mess with the elder scrolls.

You login when? You mean when you logged in BEFORE the issue even started. You know, right before the server went down for maintenance which it is STILL down for?

servers down no one at all can log in to theirs or anyone elses. and with all the 1000's of people that I know playing this is the first time hearing of it , clearly a lie gg troll

You are a troll plain and simple, and yes it is made up. The fact that it IS down for maintenance is the only truth you speak .the rest is fail troll garbage.

Its official

Read ZOS official response - I updated my OP.

The issue is *acknowledged* by Zenimax.

That's some great theorycrafting there!  I personally think its an underground operation run by a corgi with a top hat!   :D
