Funny thing is that if you step back a bit and look at what the PTS testers are saying about this  at the TF and other places, the whole issue reads like the post-nerf QQing you see in all MMOs after people have played them for a while... which the PTS testers have. People get attached to stuff--especially stuff that they consider extra clever, and then take this shit personally as if the devs are singling them out for punishment...

The only difference here is that it's not QQ about a class nerf which is usually what triggers all this nerd rage after every balancing patch...  so much drama and wasted energy.

Still gonna play brodie ? Would be a shame to loose the signature

oh yeah, i'm still playing, not gonna bother cancelling as long as my friends are still playing as in guys in provoked, i'll be there with bells and whistles. i just find it amusing how people react to meaningless situations and thats both sides of this argument.

the sig is ok.. something i threw together in photoshop in like an hour... the guild banner for the website is where it was at, that took a lot longer.. but worth it

Oh... the same "why do people are annoyed at something that is optional" and "no one forces you to use it" arguments?

In this case, a feature I would love to see in a MMORPG is an optional "invincibility" check box. Completely and entirely optional to use. No one forces you to use it. Why did you tick it, you can still play without it! You don't have to be as efficient as other players at killing enemies and earning gold!

Yeah right.

You realize you're not really thinking that one through right? Everything like this done has a side for it, a side against it and of course those in the middle who don't care. They don't gain anything from a change like this it might even cost them money, yet inaction could have the same outcome. They listen to the feedback they're getting and act accordingly. Laughing about it shows a sign you really didn't think about it.

So ZOS stated a MONTH+ ago that the addon API was going to be severely restricted come launch and it's somehow a "knee-jerk reaction" on their part?

Hell, they even stated that as time passes they are going to tweak the API based on player feedback, statistics, etc....but it's a "knee-jerk reaction".

What am I missing here?

They released a game that PURPOSELY omits very basic information available in literally every single MMO ever made (well there might be some exception, but i don't know of one).    They did this with the intention that this information will be accessible via API.   Now they're not even allowing that.

I've played 50+ MMOs.  I honestly can't recall a single one in which i was not able to find out exactly what killed me.  It's beyond retarded.

I don't need custom-made maps or some botting programs to tell me how to move.  But basic information about what just happened in combat?  That's one of the most basic things that enables you to fix/evolve/improve your character.

you're missing they they should really push this game back a few months to be more inline with the console launch... as they clearly arent ready and need a lot more time.

IS that a linkable statement or player conjecture?

WHile I agree, I don't think addon's should have any effect on release dates.

I'm glad I've never suffered as a min/maxer.  It must be infuriating to work so hard at playing a video game.  Don't get me wrong, I like addons to an extent, but some people use them as a crutch.   I can almost always tell you what killed me.  Try watching the action instead of the action bars and you'd be surprised at how much info you are given.

With that said, the devs stated a while back that they are adding 'death' info in via the chat window.   So there you go, you'll know that Azzras killed you with an arrow to the knee.  ;)

Firstly No, i find the standard UI visually displeasing for several reasons listed in orange.

Edit 2 - you know what i actually think this is what pisses me off the most.. the presumption all of you anti-addon people take towards the people who are pro choices. "you need a clutch" "you must be bad at the game" "if you were a real player you wouldnt need it", ever stop and think some of us just dont like the standard interface. i do not, not at all, i dont want a minimap it never interested me, but i'd be happy to turn off that god awful compass thing they have going too.. i dont like how my 3 resource bars are spread out across my screen, i dont like where the standard frames puts my target... there is many things i just dont like about it and i shouldnt have to play like that just because you guys think i should. just like you shouldnt have to play with addons if you dont want too. From the get go, i've been saying i just want to use certain addons for QOL, like lootdrop, item rarity border, FTC for the style of player / target information i like, scrolling combat text because i like the information, combat parser to track my own abilities... i could care less about seeing yours, i'm not going to play with any of you anyway so it doesnt bother me.. the fact that ZOS made this an online single player RPG took care of the need i would have to ever group with any of you.

i could care less about how much magika and stamina you have, i never saw it as a benefit in any way shape or form, but you can be damn sure that when there is 300+ people in a large scale PvP battle, that particle effects on everyones clients are going into autoscaleback mode to stop the servers from lagging out and you wont be able to see all if many of your precious visual queues for spells imparticular, it's going to be a different story.. again i could care less.

what i do care about is that you automatically assume that i need some kind of crutch or have been trained to play a game in a certain way which is just mind boggling, like literally my mind is blown right now that you all feel that strongly about addons and that they automate gameplay, the lead to bots, they one shot your oponent in PvP because you can see his magika.... guess what, the game is built around LUA thus a bot can be made even without an API at all... the bot hooks into the memory and injects LUA script.. it doesnt need addon support for that. No addons have automated gameplay, no addons i used have a 1 shot kill button in PvP and none of them were as game breaking as you all QQed about.

After all of this, all I can think to say is.... learn to adapt.  That's what life's all about, learning to adapt and overcome. Gaming is no different.

my whole point was i'm fine adapting and it's not an issue BUT i like having options and QOL features.

I do agree one one thing tho: Having to use addons to get access to VITAL AND BASIC information that the stock UI does not tell you,... is bad. Buff yourself up every once in a while, you never know when it drops. *facepalm*

It is because some people are unhappy and they do not rest until everyone else is as unhappy as they are. They can not stand ANYONE does things different.

First to the poster above you I'm sorry but that's part of learning a game, without a cheat sheet. IN time you will know when to pop a buff, if you take the time to learn when to. Which is only a simple matter of being aware of those things while you play. All that statement shows is that you've become far too used to apps doing the mental game for you.

IN reference to El's statement pots and kettles and all that.

Uhm, apart from the early MUD's i have played every MMO of any meaning, even some that noone ever heard of. Not a single one tried to hide my own buffs from me. Not even the very first 3d MMOs that poped up.

Care to explain how hiding my buffs enhances my experience and why it would be fun to "learn" how to count to whatever seconds untill i hit the rebuff button?

MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.

Now we have forced soloing, forced questing and everyone is the hero, without ever having to talk to anyone else. The evolution of multiplayer is here! We won,... right?

1. The game is not released yet. Get your facts straight. They have said multiple times that they would limit the API. You will know what killed you - there will be a info that pops up after you die.

50+ mmos you say? :D I dont think ZoS can keep you subbing no matter what they do, so why should they please your kind?

No.

They altered the api to remove access to some information.  Before this you could see your opponents magicka/stamina and what skills/buffs they were using in real time.  They removed access to this information.

these are good news i guess, although i would like the devs to offer a tool to customize your UI based your wills but ok, at least this news shows that they care and respond in order to avoid "hacks"

Yea...They are purposely doing it to weed out the l33twowfanbois. I don't know a single person who even considered or mentioned cancelling because they nerfed the add-ons; there are about 6-7 pre orders among these ppl. It is a complete non issue.

I do agree with you on that. The thing is, it's not an add-on issue. The issue here is that it should be an intrinsic part of the ui to begin with.
