The problem with not releasing this at launch similar to the acievements is that a lot is lost or less significant if just all traced back in their logs.

Housing in themeparks is very important to offer content that can enhance existing content by bringing trophies and lore from the MMO space into the house with character creation.

Still depending on how housing is done, it will add a lot to the game for new players. I have lost so much track in the game the only thing that would bring back at this point including all these nice things are card games.

Sounds simple enough, but it would be a reason to log in, and then once i am logged in, I would try other things... including pvp which the last time i tried, which was recently with still good pvp gear, made me realize how unbalanced the game was with classes. Its either heals and one side or both sides are unbeatable thus a game of watching skill rotation for 15 mins. Or if the side without enough healers or w/e, and there are stealth dps, kills in a few secs even though other non stealth classes which are dps can not do the same. They reward stealth as the dps pvp class and no other based on the illusion it is a hard class to learn which is not... especially with tutorials online. thats why i cant enjoy the game even with all this great content... i play and it feels like i accomplish nothing in pvp.

I have a feeling that housing will be really restricted for the free to play players, if they even have that option.

Its sad how people play catch up, Corps only make moves off of other Corps. When will they put money into proper marketing research to fine out what its consumers really want?

So, ex swg player here. I could care less about housing in swtor. Housing in swg gave me a place to decompress after PvP or hunting or whatever. I had a house on dantooine that I built because some mayor wannabe asked me to drop one there and I was new so I did lol. I did a lot of decorating there, even ran my droid shop from there. Guild wanted me on a different planet but nah, that house was my swg home.... can't imagine needing a home in the swtor universe tbh. Not a bad game but housing, especially on a job means you lilive here kinda system, no thanks. Oh yeah, and I'm sure they will cash shop the heck out of it :p

while adding in any new immersion elements to any game IMO is a great thing I honestly cannot see this going very well for bioware and EA considering how greedy they are with this game. The game still has the image designer locked to cartel coins on most of the features and while Im sure they will provide basic furniture and locations for players for credits, Im 99% sure they will make tons of better quality exclusives for cartel coins only. Im just making speculations based entirely on the current track record of the game of course. I just do not see this going very well once its launched finally if they do not make it a credit sink vs a cartel sink.

I m a SWTOR player now and then but lets be realistic, EA/Bioware are doing a poor job to make this a proper MMO. Instead they are just scanning for epeen weaknesses that vain players have and making a profit out of it. Housing? We already have a ship that is completely non-interactive. Games are supposed to be interactive and not a painting to look at.

It's a legit business but 2 years later, the improvements made on the game are minimal, specially since they promised so much and delivered so little. The game is not bad but its far from good also for a triple AAA title, they're making a profit out of fools and fools happily oblige.

The only good move they made was galactic starfighters which in its own its a shell of a copy of Star Conflict nobody can deny that. Still, it was a good move and added space combat that a Star Wars game need because those space missions the game launched with were nothing short of a big joke.

Again, let's be realistic, this game copied poorly from the successes of other MMO's. Nothing wrong with copying and improving, but copying poorly and using a good license to make a profit out of it just says a lot about Bioware and EA and future "improvements" they ll add to the game.

2 things they brought to the genre that was new and pretty cool: 1_ Tanks are useful and fun in pvp . 2_ Huttball .

But hey, it's free to play, so all good.

They still didn't fix the engine though. I got a gtx 680 with no bottlenecks and still get inconsistent FPS. I start a warzone with 70-90 FPS, after a few minutes it starts going up and down from 70-30 making the camera movement lag a lot.

Nop, that a hassle to fix. Let's just play housing instead and make some moneyh!

I agree, much needed feature indeed, heck if it would've been in game at release, probably I'd not cancel after the first month expired (just after the 2nd :) ).

And yep, I can't wait either to check the details and the ties to the shop. My guess is that even subbers will need to spend a lot of CC's to fully enjoy their houses :)

Next up should be an RvR planet. Tons of people were asking for that pre-launch, but all we got was Ilum, a sad excuse for PvP.

TOR should stop focusing on warzones and other small epeen fests and bring its conflict to life.

To me it's a complete waste of time developing this feature as:

1/ We technically already have player housing with ships and...

2/ Who at level 55 is going to brave the Coruscant/DK  loading screens each time they want to go to their house? I have a feeling unless they implement some unlimited quick travel to your house this will become nothing more than a brief novelty as people will find travelling back and forth more time wasting than the status quo.

There's a reason why RvR won't work and 1.1 ilum was a vision of why this is, the fact is the engine can't handle a huge number of players required to make RvR possible.

In some games you can only pay real money to recustomize your character. The fact they do it with cartel coins is actually slightly less greedy than most because subs can save up their coins and pay for it that way. They aren't anymore greedy than most other MMOs out there.

Eh, seeing worthy content release for SWTOR is good to see. Unfortunately, with their terrible cash shop and f2p restrictions I'm sure this will cost an arm and a leg to use.

 

All hating aside, as a player who left a few months after launch I still can't see myself ever coming back without any real open-world pvp and class storylines. Still I wish em the best luck, a KOTOR based mmo will always have a special place in my heart no matter how disappointed with it I was.

Dozens of MMO's, RTS's, FPS's, etc.

Realistically what other option does a game like TOR have? It wouldn't be exactly smart use of resource to create a whole land mass for one features that's more a luxury than something of purpose to a story featured Themepark.

Yet we see here why DEVs like those who are making ESO decided to skip this feature, few are happy with it unless it's done a certain way (non instanced), these types of games wouldn't really benefit from anything other than instanced housing. As they don't have the open space of a game like SWG. Again why create it for such a a trivial use?

OH AWESOME! this will make me come back and swipe my card and give them money! cause I already had a spaceship that I could pretend was my house and run around talking to my companions pretending it was my house...sweet we get a house now!

 

 

since everything in SWTOR is limited to the nuts ... what limits will my house have? I can only enter it twice a week? to play house?

The reactions in this thread is the exact reason why I've said in the past that Bioware should not waste their time on features such as this. It's time and money wasted trying to please a group of people that will never be satisfied.That time would be better used for increasing the story content. No one I know in game was asking for a house.

this game is a p2p game. They try to make it accessible by being f2p, but its still a p2p game. So with $15 this would not be an issue, but more in terms what you would consider worth $15 a month.

I guess you dont find it worth $15 a month. I put a lot of money into the game without using the cartel store. Collectors edition, and every month subbed even after they went f2p until my card automatically got deregistered from their system and i decided i got my moneys worth. And no reason to come back soon as a subscriber, and if i came back as a f2p player i would judge it from that perspective. And... pvp needs improvement even for a f2p player.\

Even so, them resitricting access to a house for f2p would be rediculous since its equivalent to inventory space which no game thus far has given time restrictions on as well.

Realistically what other option does a game like TOR have? It wouldn't be exactly smart use of resource to create a whole land mass for one features that's more a luxury than something of purpose to a story featured Themepark.

Yet we see here why DEVs like those who are making ESO decided to skip this feature, few are happy with it unless it's done a certain way (non instanced), these types of games wouldn't really benefit from anything other than instanced housing. As they don't have the open space of a game like SWG. Again why create it for such a a trivial use?

For a lot of people, it isn't trivial.  Using non-instanced housing has proven in games like SWG, Vanguard and LOTRO to be conducive to community building and if done right, such as the way they are implementing it in Wildstar, can be tied into the game world and gameplay in many unique and entertaining ways.  If they're too lazy to develop something worthwhile, why bother at all.

First, SWTOR is one of the largest MMORPGs currently available. So I'd argue that whatever market research was done, it was done well. Games don't just trip over 2 million users. Oops! Oh, look, 2 million users. Awesome! 

 

Secondly, playing catch-up is a way of life for the majority of games. There can only be one innovator. So, in an industry which some might say is stagnant as far as feature development goes, yeah, they are probably playing catch-up.

 

Finally, I think that SWTOR is doing a pretty good job listening to what their customers want. You want off-rails flight? Done. You want housing? Done. I mean these are things that people are asking for. Just open your eyes and read the forums. It's literally all.....over......the.....place.

no I have no interest re subbing to this game.. after beta testing , being a founder and subbing for a few months.. then coming back I am choked the f**k out by restrictions on everything? no thanks..

I have a lot of friends that like many of us are looking for something to play at the moment and we all refuse to go back to TOR . so when I see a super duper update about housing.. all I can do is laugh.

Why is playing catch-up in any way optimal just because a majority of a failing industry uses that method?

Where is that rule stated that there can only be one innovator?

When will dellivering an awkward and non-asked for type of space flight and housing be positive?

 

Stop making things up just to suit your reality, it's garbage like this that continues to feed a stagnant industry signals that short-cuts in development process is acceptable.
