If DaoC was so fun why don't you just play it?

You have Wow which is a monthly fee AND they cut content from game and let you buy for ridiculous amounts. GW2 pumps FREE content out on such a fast pace you easily get your moneys worth.

Azurrel who says gold is hard to get is correct though, and that is intended. It lets gold keep value and not get to stupid amounts like WoW which is easily in the millions. The fact ANY player can get gold and buy items from the cash shop is a extra bonus. You don't NEED any items in there, they are a bonus if you decide you want it, whether that;s with real money or gold.

WoW cutting out game content and making you pay for it? Really? Pets and mounts that are few and  no better than everything found in game, equals game content to you? Getting that desperate, are we?

If you are that desperate to defend GW2's item shop by erroniously comparing it to WoW's, come back when WoW's item shop lets you pay for resources, perks, boosts, convient fast travel items, content area's etc like GW2's does lol.

well 60 dollars gives you a lvl 90 char.

I have played since beta weekend 1 and during all that time I bought gems for maby 30 dollars total and now I have "re earned" those money by just farming gold, I'm buying gems for gold now, getting gold nowdays are so easy.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

Gemstore is pretty much F2P BUT with a box price on top. Fortunately it isn't THAT bad, but it still has issues such as gambling and the fact the gold has more value in the game and you can buy it really tends to cause some strain.

Box + Cash Shop I feel is what pushes it a bit over the edge, granted then you can look at WoW and claim the same with it charging insane prices for services and mounts.

I am more than some of my parts

As a casual player, I can make enough gold to turn into gems to buy the fancy armor skin within a weeks play easy. I wouldn't be surprised if people told me they could do it in a day or two.  Someone could spend 10 dollars to get the same thing. I think it's a pretty fair balance. If you want to pay, then pay.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

well, the problem i see for any B2P game, or so called F2P games for that matter, is that eventually it will hit max in players buying the game...then what?? no body buying the game, means the game will eventually shut down. all MMO's need money monthly in order to stay online and to make new content...GW2 lost $80 million last quarter...the only way that game is still online is because of the company that owns the game. NCSoft..they have several games that do bring in money and thats the only way GW2 is still viable.  GW2 will see a spike in revenue when its released in the asian market, but then what will happen when those sales dry up? Its great and all to be able to just buy an MMO and never spend a dime on it ever again....but they can only sell so many box/digital copies to keep the game online, developers of B2P/F2P games depend on any in game store for monthly  revenue..period.

GW2 has one of the worst store models ever, i am sure it makes a ton of money for NC/Arenanet but holy crap there are so many cool weapon skins and other items locked behind 100s or even 1000s of dollar walls between the box rng and keys you have to buy.  I would much rather buy a skin set for 20 bucks than pay 20 in keys in hope of never getting jack crap and the sad part is other MMORPGs are following that model like RIFT which is complete crap! 2 grand to get a stupid bird mount LOL!??! Seriously things are getting out of hand in the F2P market.

Honestly, my biggest problem with GW2 is the gem-to-gold trade. I was able to level to 80 with cooking in a matter of hours, simply from purchasing gems, trading for gold, and buying materials at the auctions. It honestly ruined the game for me, because while I did it to myself, it harmed my experience due to the lack of naturally leveling and now I'm trying to shove myself back into the world so I can experience the dungeons/endgame and incredible level design.

its just like choosing to eat 'healthy', 'not healthy' or in 'moderation'...

now if they sold expansions to characters guild, then maybe...but iam ok with shops.

Erm *cough* if you are refering to the lovestruck skins, that shit is 60-70g in the auction house. You can farm that much in a day ... week at worst o.O

Besides I like their model because when I pay ... I receive, and I don't receive promises like you usually do with subscription games, nope.

P.S: Chest keys are also farmable :)

I call bullshit. A profession that doesn't raise to stage 500 gives only 10 levels 0-400. Its a fixed rate exp you get. Nice try though...

What I don't understand is this whole perception that microtransactions lead to pay to win or whatever you call it. This has been only prelevant in some Asian/Korean grinders some time ago. Nowadays it is extremely unusual to find a cash shop which is buy to play in any western MMO. If one happened to be pay to win, that would be the very rare exception rather than the norm.

Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.

With GW2 they're so stingy with the gold and you can see the reason for it now. Buy gems, convert gold is the fastest way to get gold. Who wants to do champ runs for hours on end when they log in to make gold when you can just buy it and save yourself weeks worth of work farming champs?

Did you do that in the beginning before that was nerfed because I don't think you can level like that anymore.

Also how does hitting 80 ruin the game? You auto-level to the zone and content you're in. It doesn't matter what level you are. Just go back to the zone you want to play and do the content.

In any event, doing it the way you did was your choice not a product of the cash shop or gem/gold trade. I've not leveled like that and have felt no compunction to do so. Blame yourself for making a bad choice, not the system.

Again, it is your choice if you want to get instant gratification. If you do then you pay. If you don't and are willing to go the traditional route then you don't have to.

Across 2 accounts I've spent $20 on gems because my son wanted to buy some cosmetics or pets in the gem shop.

I make plenty of gold to play the game outside of that. What do you need to make massive amounts of gold for? Is it that you want the nicest skins in the game, but you don't want to spend the time to earn them?

I don't play the game. I played it a  few months at release. My Mom, who is 59, was still playing it and she played a lot, it was just easier to gain gold by buying gems(though now she's uninstalled the game and is now playing EQ Landmark). It's not worth turning in what little gold you do make for gems. It's better to buy the gems and convert it to gold imo. That's my opinion and you have yours. Neither are right or wrong, it's preference and opinion. A lot bothers me about GW2, aside from their crappy WvsW, their stinginess with gold and manipulating the gold to gem market bugs me.

The game has moved firmly into the P2W grinder camp. Either you grind for 12 hours a day to be relevant/make enough gold to get by, or you get a full time job and buy gems and convert to gold, which is the better option. 1 day of work at minimum wage makes you roughly a months worth of gold from farming in game. This is broken. This is a completely broken system.

That's not by accident, ArenaNet is not to blame for this, but their parent company NC$oft however, is. Good luck with WildStar and the inevitable cash grab it becomes as well if you are looking forward to it, because as soon as they figure out it's not a WoWkiller, it's going to become another cash grab style dagger in your back grinder.

Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV
Have played: You name it

No, they cant blame the gem shop. It's its general lack of a soul, the lack of defined roles for ppl to sink their teeth into and the absence of any point in progressing through the game once the exploration novelty wears off...none of it feels like it hangs together...despite the amazing job they did on the graphics and art design.
