Does anyone really think that is fun?? Just wondering. I had enough after half an hour mindless mass zerg already.

Can we have an expansion pack pls now? Like Kantha. Or Elona.

Well, you spent that half or more of the living story here on the forums saying how bad it is. Reap what you sow my friend. The patch of last week...the Edge of the Mists one was like a story recap. They said EVERYTHING known so far and threw new stuff. You actually found out about the attack on LA by yourself checking evidence!  They explained why and what happened. A patch before that you went into scarlett's hidden room.

The past few patches have been made to ramp up people's playskill and teamwork efficiency....yet people still choose to zerg it. Well its simple, if you zerg, you WILL fail, end of story. Marionette? It required organized group of ~80+ players to complete. The great jungle wurm? On both continents (NA/EU) i think there are only 7 or 8 servers that managed to do it because they do not mindlessly zerg. Not to mention that in EotM alone you can push whole zergs off of cliffs to their deaths :)

Overall, I find the new installment of living world quite enjoyable. Currently working on getting that new backpiece they introduced with it. Would fit my warrior rather well. Then again I'm just scouting around in LA, not joining the zerg.

Oh did you know that Gw2's events scale up based on the number of players participating? :)

yeah...about that...a zerg's events are a lot harder and take more time to complete. This way they are unable to even grasp 1500 rescues

TL;DR; You're doing it wrong mate ;)

GW2 is Massive Multiplayer Online Game, it suppose to have large number of people playing together. I found it distasteful when someone wants to diminish game by calling some group events zergs. Simply, no one force you to play and when some people gather to play its impolite to insult them, on forum or everywhere.

i love it. havent played gw2 for a while and since a week im back again. and this patch was just great. thats what an mmo has to be. bringing the masses of players together to fight for something together.

btw if you just zerg and only do events and kill mobs you wont reach anything. you have to build groups and small zergs to reach the goal of 1500 saved citizens.

^^This, exactly this.^^

Isn't it sad that so many people can't comprehend the ability to "not follow"

I would also like mention that with the OP complaining about having too many people around in an mmo, why isn't there more posts from the "facepalm meme" crowd and the "GW2 is dead" crowd?

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

Now that people are starting to NOT zerg and are spreading out, there's a lot more strategy visible with fights, and the collective score is getting much higher on average.

In this event it's =easy= to zerg, but it's not actually good to zerg.  And people have been picking up on that and changing how they do it.

Well, it sure shook things up. I'm not sure whether I love it or not. That would depend on whether LA gets rebuilt or stays destroyed. I guess LA is too convenient to just abandon. But it changes things in a pretty rough way, so I guess that's actually a good thing.

I like it.

As others said, way the event works, midless zerging punishes you here (miasma events are harder) and gets you less rewards (less citizens evacuated), gj on anet part imo.

50000% agreed. I leveled like 4 80's because the other crap was so mind numbingly boring. Just a bunch of people zerging from here to there rinse repeat 10000000000 times chasing carrots on a stick. The endgame is based on one huge grind.

Even if you don't zerg you are still repeating the same thing over and over and over on a schedule.

Sorry to say but then your playing it wrong or not, you have to have the "Zerg" were the events are but you need to have equle amount of players running around in smaller groups trying to rescue all the civiliance.

So if you don't enjoy they zerg try to join the smaller groups they are really challenging sometimes.

I also agree with you, while this is fun we still need an expansion.

It's pointless. It's a symbol of everything wrong with GW2. This post sums it up best.

the event itself is not bad. a player can get their achievements done in a day or two - content is not hard. Its less reliant on perfect execution than events like marrionette.

That said - there are some issues.

  1. After running this several times a day since it came out - gets a bit boring
  2. The loot is meh - even when you collect 100 bags in a run, mostly you get greens and blues. I've managed to get 2 exotics (both in the same run) and a couple rare - but overall the loot is nothing to get excited about - break it down for mats or sell it for coin
  3. The new back piece - yet another item that requires massive amounts of ascended materials (most of which are account bound) and a new Gift (which needs yet more ascended mats - some of which require other mats that can only be crafted once per day, so its time gated)... the push to get players to spend all their time grinding for ascended mats to get best gear available is getting old. Trust level in anet is very low, so before you say "then don't do it - you don't need it..." what is to prevent anet from adding yet more content whose difficulty requires ascended gear OR add yet more gear progression. Slippery slope - ignore ascneded and risk getting left behind.
  4. As the event repeats hourly, this has a large impact on # of players running other events (world bosses, the new wurm, etc) so players are running this thing over and over again and those who want to run other content will find it takes a lot longer to get that content completed. I was in a Shaterer run today that took over 10 minutes due to low # of people at the event.
  5. For players that run several 80s, all of this push to ascended is even more painful as you get to farm the mats and spend the gold multiple times. Unless you play this game 8 hrs a day who really has the desire or time to farm all this stuff over and over ... as others have said, game has become less alt-friendly since ascended came out.

It would have been nice if anet has used this opportunity to rework some of the game to make ascended crafting more achieveable for the average player. They could also have intro'd craftable precursors with this. They did neither, and given the direction things have been going I think about what those precursor recipies might look like and conclude they will be even a bigger PIA to create... and given the bloody things don't seem to drop from world bosses anymore, what choice do you have aside from gambling with the mystic forge and blowing hundreds/thousands of gold for a 1% or so chance of a precursor?

The devs don't seem to be listening to the players. Once TESO and EQ come out ... i wonder what the effect on the population will be for this game.

Lets see.

People complain that Living Story makes the player play the way Anet wants.

So Anet makes a meta event that can easily be done in 2 or 3 tries.

People complain that the meta is too easy and there is no point on doing the event every hour.

Does someone else see something wrong?

You can do the event a couple of times and be done with it.

It is boring after a few tries - don't do it!

If you want to get the thoughtless and selfless potions you can do event a couple of times every day.

That is why games with death penalty and consequences are so popular and have been so successful...

It is a videogame.

Death penalty and corpse runs, that is for little boys.

Why not russian roulette?

Now that is a game with real consequences.

I was a huge champion of this game for a long time. I still believe the game, at release, was probably the best MMO, at release, we've seen in the history of MMOs, but certainly the best since WoW.

As a Buy to Play game, that core game is still a huge value and I can't complain about what I paid for over 1,800 hours of enjoyment.

The problem is that some key people, like Game Director Eric Flannum and others, left shortly after launch and the studio never has recovered from the brain drain. the Living Story has, with few exceptions, been a horrible waste of content development resources. The smoke and mirrors flash, combined with vapidness, exemplified by this current Destruction of Lion's Arch zerg fest and the horrible Queen's Gauntlet "zerg against pojntless mobs standing around in meaningless zoo exhibit size plots of land" content, are more than just a disappointment as content, but they actively war against many of the key design principles the game was created around.

For me, the biggest groan worthy moment since launch was reading a recent interview with current Game Director Colin Johanson where he essentially said that things would have to continue to get worse with their numbers for another year before they would have to give up on Living Story and do something different to try to turn the game around.

I mean, unreal. The sad thing is that not only are they pushing forward with a failed concept, but they seem to be deliberately waging war against the original GW2 Manifesto in an effort to ensure that building on that original foundation just will not be viable by the time they are done screwing the game with Living Story and other negative changes to game play.

I've never, ever, seen any organization so committed to turning triumph into tragedy. They launched with 80% of the Manifesto realized in a tremendous product. It was a no brainer that they would move the game closer and closer towards the ideal with each ongoing update. Instead, it seems they've abandoned the work of the first five years and are laboring at warp speed to morph the game into a cliche of everything that has been wrong with the MMO genre since the launch of WoW.

Anyway, no, I don't enjoy it, I hate it, not just because this event is horrible, but because it doubles down on what, to me, has been a disastrous year+ of game killing "content" and changes. I can't help but be livid at how they have destroyed the once vast potential of the game and the glee with which they remain committed to a failed strategy.

There goes another one that just generalise the past updates as zergfests, as if that was the only possible option. Also it's fun how EVERYONE that speaks about the queen's jubelee always talk about the zerg trains and NEVER mention the queen's gauntlet; which not only was very hard and chalenging (Liadri the concealing darkness, anyone?) but it was also SOLO content.

I agree that the first 6-8 months were an epic fail; but thanks to the faillure that flame and frost was the living story updates have been getting better and better in terms of quality.

Yes you can clear them in 3-4 days and then have to wait for 2 weeks for a new update to pops out; but you still have past content to clear (not everything gets wiped out every 2 weeks like everyone says). Organize Tequatl raids, organize Wurm raids.

You still feel like it's not worth loggin in 6h/day? Take a break, play something else till the new patch (which is just every 2 weeks, not months like other games).

It's a buy to play game, the concept of quitting doesn't exist, unless you get rid of your account. You can log in after months and still have a decend gear (exotic) thanks to which you can clear EVERYTHING but high lvl fractals.

You missed living story updates? Grab a beer and something to eat, open youtube and watch woodenpotatoes living story recap since November 2012.

I still log in during living story updates and it's clear that the game is far from being dead or in decline. This at least goes for pve and WvW, can't speak about spvp as i don't play it.
