loved GW2. I was a huge freaking fan of it, but playing the same thing week after week with "living" stories seemingly adding absolutely nothing new really burned me out on the game. Apparently adding a ton of crappy content means you get to be advertised as "The World's Most Updated MMO" though.

This article is just shameless advertising.

LOL, did you even read the article?

It's quite funny how this article claims that GW2 is the most updated MMO. But when you look at it in retrospect the vast majority of the updates aren't in the game anymore. So players can't experience any of the content if they missed the month that the content was released.

I for one haven't played the game since I hit 80 on my Necromancer within the first month and if I were to go back to the game for the most part there'd be no content. So I can easily claim that this game has not received many updates at all. In the end the "Living Story" is bad and should be removed. Put permanent content into the game and then A.Net could get a chance at the "Most updated MMO award".

I can easily argue that this post is absolutely wrong with A.Net being the most updated MMO. Seeing as I've played Wakfu since day one and every month there was new dungeons, new bosses, new gear, haven worlds, world events, new classes and etc. This past year they did a road map showing exactly what they were adding http://www.wakfu.com/en/mmorpg/community/2013-september . It's a joke to blindly give credit to A.Net.

Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.

I've become dependent upon spell check. My apologies for stupid grammatical errors.

I'm sure the millions of dollars ArenaNet is making will comfort them as they realize there are a few people on MMORPG.com that do not play their game. I feel certain they'll get through.

They must be doing something right. There wouldn't be any point to all these updates if they didn't have a bunch of players and new people trying the game out.

For every large, complex problem, there is a simple, clear solution that also happens to be absolutely wrong.

Yeah, I admit I had only read half of it, it's edited now (I'm just so tired of people going on about how GW2 gets so many updates and I thought this article was that again).

Item skins and dumb grindy achievements that means nothing as content lol. I can't believe how badly they ran the whole thing. It could be great this game, but even if they dropped this BS living story thing, i'm afraid the damage is done. I just don't care about it enough anymore.

Your chararacter gains experience and levels up, defining a role playing game.

Story was boring, holiday stuff is childish.

Yeah I really loved the game when it first  came out could not get enough of it then I slowly lost interest which I was hoping would not happen but it did and i've tried to get back into the game but just cannot does not do anything for me.

But I wish the game a long healthy life with its player base.

When TESO will be released, GW2 will be another "generic-over-hyped-and-forgotten-MMO" like there are a lot out there.

Just think, if GW2 had a monthly fee, how many players would be still playing it? It would change  to F2P in few months after release, just like other generic MMOs out there.

The only good thing of GW2 is being B2P, but ther eare far better B2P MMOs out there.

Too bad I can't stand the combat.  It would be nice for once to like an MMO that gets updated often.

From all beta leaks ESO will be much like SWToR and GW2 having a baby. Not sure you will find what you are looking for there. Guess we can hope.

The fundamental problem with is that it rejects the staples of MMOs and yet aspires to capture the consumers of them.

The lack of questing diminishes any sense of lore or context that has been established by games innumerable. It's not to say that questing has to be rote or endless chains of retrievals and checklist. But we need something to anchor and contextual what's happening. Dialogue in events is scant, hearts are just checklists. While some events are really well done, the most are forgetable. Personal story was a good start, but it was only one avenue for the player to immerse themselves. The storyline of the guilds was neglected, there are no class stories - nothing. The choices made during character creation cease to matter shortly thereafter.

To overcome the shortcomings of temporary content, ArenaNet ignorantly (or defiantly) wants to place the living story dungeons into fractals. This rests on the assumptions most players want to or can do fractals. Comparing this game to other games like Rift, WoW, or even LoTRO - you'll notice a stark contrast. Those games retain the list of dungeons that have been steadily released into the game. LoTRO in particular handles dungeons well - you can create a dungeon, set its difficult and level range, and then play it. This adds trememdous replayability. Guild Wars 2 could seriously benefit from this.

Instead, ArenaNet has given us no dungeons. We still have the original 8. Their attempt at a dungeon finder is an absolute joke. When games in beta have workign dungeon finders or group finders, you've done something wrong.

Guild Wars 2 does a good job of painting a great tapestry. Yet many of us bought the game hoping there'd be more behind it. Instead we've found a dusty wall.

Current MMOs: Wildstar, Guild Wars 2, the Secret World, World of Warcraft

Past Loves: Guild Wars, Lord of the Rings Online, Everquest

Their temporary content was a mistake from the very beginning, some posters here already gave accurate insight to why that is the case.

Generally speaking GW2's living story, personal story, the things that were hyped and lauded immensely before the game launched, are very much lackluster for me personally, for example the story quality of one SWTOR stomps hard all over this, it's just vastly better in every respect.

That was the thing that disappointed me at the start while the horrendous grind made me stop playing this game completely.

The problem, for me, with GW2 is that the updates have been of a type that is not interesting to me at all: more jumping puzzles, "Living Story" (zzzz…), holiday events, class tweaks -- it's all well and good.

But if they ever bring in an honest-to-goodness real, full-fledged expansion, I'll consider actually coming back to this game.

Players need to be more realistic about how often a MMO can put out good content updates. Being the worlds Best-Updated MMO is what any MMO should look to be.

If new content is temporary it does not get much use. It does not take a brain the size of a planet to work that one out. Updates should focus on more content and a better end game.

I don't understand your reasoning. You're saying that the release of TESO will actually change GW2 into a generic game? Will GW2 suddenly have less and poor features?

And surely everyone can see that GW2 compared to the most traditional MMORPG's is at least slightly different. Which is enough to say that it's not really that generic.

As stated many times I am NOT GW2 hater! The game has a variety of innovations that no other game has come close to. That said, the living story drove me from the game. Although I was able to play most of the content the meaningless story and monotonous grind for an ever growing collection of armor/weapon skins to much to bare. Every release of new content replaced the idea of being in a world with the impression of playing an arcade game. It just felt like my character was not progressing.

Could we correct one thing:  First sentence of this article declares GW2 as "F2P", which it is NOT.  It's a buy-2-play game that requires a box purchase in order to play the game.  There is a difference between the two.  Now, carry on with the rest of the rants.
