Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

Sure they are planned features, but ArcheAge has actual castle sieges and open world housing and underwater content again which is non existent in BD.

Don't even get me started on how glitchy BD is, very buggy client.

yeah but aren't those features of the game and isn't it still being built?

Archeage is a finished game. You can't compare the two.

Wrong. Archeage is far from finished, the missing races (4), their starting zones and the completion of the main PvP island is being worked on and will be here before Christmas. In fact, there is as much content yet to come as is in the game so far.

My personal opinion is that Trion is waiting for the complete game before starting a NA/EU Beta.

ok, let's change the word: It's a "released" game.

Given that mmo's are supposed to be "never finished" there's always going to be something added.

but ok, Archeage was released incomplete and BD is still in what? Alpha?

I sitll don't see the comparison in features. "BD is still in Alpha and it doesn't have the same features as a released game!"

Yup, can't see it.

I do agree with your last statement though.

A very rough calculation:

South Korea has 50 million inhabitants

The World has 7 billion.

If WoW has 70k players in Korea, so would has 9,8 milion players in the world.

If Archeage has 30k players in Korea, would has 4,2 milion worldwide.

If AA to have 1 million players in the world (1/4 from this "prevision"), would be a sucessfull mmo.

I don't think we can toss around the term unfinished because some games have more content unfinished than other games that claim to be fully polished.

Archeage is a big game and trying to do MORE than other games,o at unfinished it is still more finished than other games. How many years before Eve is finished properly?GW2? So many games get accredited with polish when they are missing so much game play.

I can point to another game>>>Amalur Schilling's game.it offered so much that players have been asking for yet still garnered no kind of following. You know the real truth,a lot of this is marketing and big name developers getting more attention than they deserve.I can simply point at EQ2 and Wow ,practically identical games yet Wow had 20x more players,go figure,no logic to it at all.

So success has NOTHING to do with quality, geesh Vabguard is a better game than MOST out there and has no following.I do understand that SOE has done a LOT to piss off it's fanbase,so people will stay away form SOE but still numbers often lie when comes to quality of game development.

If AA offers exactly what Wow does but MORE and better pvp being open field pvp, then more should play the game right?Nope blizzard is a MUCH bigger name than Jake Song, nobody will follow AA but everyone already knows Titan is coming because it is Blizzard.I somehow wonder if Blizzard did not stage hat whole LEAKED idea to create interest.

I have no doubt AA will be as good as any top 5 game, but i also figure it will not be supported as such, gaming is just luck and media hype.

Shouldn't option g be a decision tree, where the thread is either continually necro'd or forgotten when some other bit of misinformation surfaces about the game?

For every large, complex problem, there is a simple, clear solution that also happens to be absolutely wrong.

No idea what to make of all this, but my interest in the game has lessened for 2 reasons, the purer indie sandboxes and EQN that will lack a lot of the tired themepark features AA has, and other Korean MMOs that just seem more interesting and groundbreaking, such as Black Desert.

As someone who has played both Black Desert CBT and ArcheAge(been playing for months on Korean servers) - BD is inferior in all aspects other than character graphics at this time. This is the general consensus.

BD is popular because it's new, it doesn't have the depth of systems that AA has, BD is more of an action game with parkour elements - heck AA has entire underwater realms to explore, in BD you can't even go underwater yet - and crafting is laughable in BD.

Also I am not sure if you are up with the latest info - but XLGames is redoing a ton of ArcheAge content based on player feedback - the biggest part of this is removal of almost all themepark elements, so these "themepark features" are on the way out.

All MMORPGs (especially fantasy ones) have seen a drastic drop in popularity in Korea over the last couple of years - this is across the board.

IMO - Fantasy RPGs are a LOT more popular in US/EU markets than Asian markets at this point, so AA will do quite well

That is such a lie. black desert has castle sieges, open world housing and village building. Stop spreading misinformation.

This post is a lie. Stop spreading misinformation

Black Desert does not have open world housing.  There are several pre-built houses in various cities that players will bid over and then have to compete for again after 3 months.  You can built a tent anywhere you want but that is hardly housing.

Archeage has open world housing.  BD does not.

I have not been given a chance to play Black Desert Online, but I was lucky enough to play ArcheAge during the closed and open Korean betas. I usually don't like #charts simply because of how they are presented (sometimes). What does matter to me much more is the trend of people logging in on a week to week, month to month basis. 30k seems quite low... I really hope XLGames does make some positive changes that will bring people in. You are right, there is in almost every case a drastic drop in populations not only in other regions, but South Korea as well.

I just don't want it to be such a drastic drop that it makes games like ArcheAge so niche that it ends up in life support (or with very little updates) so soon. I would rather see some sort of stability than ArcheAge ending up with the typical Korean model which is usually 90% cosmetic updates and 10% actual content just to stay afloat.

Whatever upcoming changes XLGames announces are going to make or break ArcheAge. In its current state it cannot survive. Fingers crossed Jake Song wakes up and redirects AA back to his original vision of a modernized UO. This game cannot last as a hybrid - appeal to everyone - lowest common denominator. They need to go all in with sandbox and meaningful open world PvP with consequences

So I just did a search about who is the CEO of XL games and I still see Jake Song as the CEO. In fact he just did a interview for their upcoming game civilization online as a XL employee. Please link me the info that he has left, I've searched and I don't see it.

The game will likely be another TERA online a massive failure, one of those MMO's that make you pay $9.99 to re-cutomize of character and such and if this is the case I am not even going to install the game because it will SUCK no doubt about it.

I want the option to enjoy and customize my game characters in a 2013 MMO any time I wish like in  EVE Online, APB, RIFT, if the game does not  support such like the new Final Fantasy XIV I will not continue to play the game or put a cent into it.

It's a weekly chart so it is about 4k players playing the game per day from internet cafes. At least 3-5 full servers of active players on daily basis? The game doing alright over there I would say

"Don't argue with dick-heads, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience"

The image and source doesn't even claim its "people" but states its hours. Its a weekly playtime sample from various game caffees just like your source is based on.

Only the OP who couldnt even read his information claimed its player.

With   Korea being a mostly free to play mmo territory I think thats the way they rank their games by hours because you cant really go by subs. I would like to see the same method used here in the West now since free to play has pretty much taken over. I am still suprised to see ArcheAge ahead of games like Lineage 2, Dota 2 and World Of Warcraft.

ArcheAge is currently at #14 in Korea. This game has way more then 30,000 people playing.

The contrary. Korea is actually a mostly P2P territory even if many more F2P games exist than P2P games. But hardly any games even offer a monthly subscription model in Korea and Asia in general.

The most common system are credit based prepurchases of playtime. Hence the total lack of news about "subscription numbers" from the far East either. It just makes no sense for an Asian based publisher/developer to talk about subs even if their games are P2P.  The only publisher who is still calling these Asian P2P player subscriber even when they are in no sense subs is ActivisionBlizzard because they have a big Western playerbase that cares about the subscription model.

Instead in Korea concurrency and playtime are the most prominent measurements taken for Eastern games follow by usergrowth or accounts with subs nowhere in sight.
