At least the graphics are nice

If you have that many 50's then there aren't that many MMO's out there that will satisfy you long term....start on the next one :)

Currently playing as Pete Puma on Excalibur. FF ARR - The best MMO I've played since SWG!

Same type of player, same type of whine

Developers had a solution some time ago, xp loss on death and a multi year level cap. However the content locusts can't handle the climb thru the mountains and opted for the treadmill.

Developers are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

(mods like to butcher posts for giggles)

This is not to berate you in any way, but you it evident that you have much more gaming time available to you than most. Although you have a job,  for the levels you are with 5 characters means that you have invested a considerable chunk of time in the game.

To put this in perspective just short of a month ago the average level in game was level 19. I can see this being 50 now being almost a month later (http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/blog/000506.html) but to have FIVE level 50's means you have a LOT more time on your hands. The facts and figures are there mate, so to pass yourself off as a casual gamer is a bit 'out there'. It's clear you are playing pretty hardcore.

This is where I find complaint with you, not with what you do with your time, but they way you try to pass it off, as if you are trying to say "Look at me and how great I am, I play casually, just 2 hours a night and I have FIVE level 50's". This is not the case and you know it.

This also brings me to your other statement you make blaming the game for not having enough content. There is in fact plenty of content, you just burned through it. This is what happens when people find a game they like, with enough time to play, they consume content very quickly. However, even if they increased the content FIVE fold, so five times bigger someone would still hit End game and be going "There's nothing to do, they needed to add more content". You are one of those guys.

My suggestion to you would be to step back a bit, you are a poster on MMORPG so this isn't your first rodeo. You know how MMO's are on the outset. Pace yourself, relax and have fun. Get involved with link shells, do fun things. Theory craft OR put the game down and take a break and play something else. If you get more than 10 hours play time from this game a month you are more than getting your moneys worth. So, feel free to play other things, the game and it's end game will always be there.

Also, there is new content coming out, so now would be ideal to break. You can come back to the new content and get all excited with the game once more. Just a suggestion.

And once again we see some serious delusion on what makes the average "casual" player. Forget about expansions, the average player will not have close to being done with everything in 3-4 months. I play somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-25 hrs per week, have 1 lvl 50 (A Culinarian), and still have a ways to go on the main storyline. And while I'm sure that sounds super casual to many of you, that is still probably above average for the typical player.

For those of you that have burned through all the content and are getting bored, I'm not going to blame you, or say you are playing the wrong way. As I have said many times here, people are entitled to play how they like. But you are deluding yourself if you think you are the main target audience for this game.

The game is a month old and you're already max lvl with nothing more to do than grind the same " content" looking for gear drops. How am I delusional ?...lol you only have 1 50...and you say it like it's a point in the games favor.

The main target audience for this game apparently wont be playing it in 6 months. the delusional people will all be long gone. Throw away games are not what ppl "voted for" with their wallets when they picked wow.

The days of playing a single MMO for me are long gone - My FC was done with FFARR in less than 2 weeks post release, but none of us focus on one game solely.

So we put FFARR on pause and went back to Rift.

I am also playing a ton of other games, including many betas - I'll be trying out Black Desert online tomorrow for example but been playing anything from Minecraft and D3, Defiance (trying to get a new weapon since the last patch)

Sticking to one game that has less than 100 hours of content is silly. Wait until things change and then come back later.

It's pretty natural to be bored with just about anything when you've completely engulfed yourself in it for this concentrated amount of time.

This hasn't been my experience with FFXIV, partly because I play casually, partly because I play with real life friends so we each have a stake in coordinating group play and enjoying it for its own sake, partly because I don't demand from any source of entertainment that it sustain so much of my attention for such a concentrated period of time.

If you don't have real life friends playing with you, or any interested in joining you in the game, I'd recommend cancelling your sub for awhile, like Shaunee said. You'll save money, and you can always come back to it if you regain interest later. No reason to burn yourself out any further.

I'm sorry no game should be obligated to provide enough content to keep someone who plays so excessively entertained for eternity. At least not for $13 a month.

I think you need to try playing some other games if you really have that much free time.

It's common lately to find that, when someone mentions that they've reached the end of a game and are growing bored with it, the immediate response from many is to assume the individual raced through it.  It certainly isn't limited to FFXIV.

Thing is, with MMOs these days, that's not necessarily a safe bet. The way most MMOs are designed these days - the standard "accessible, soloable themepark" design - it sometimes requires more effort to not level quickly than it does to level quickly.

I've run into that problem many times in numerous such MMOs. I find myself leveling far faster than I want to, to the point that if I pick up a series of quests that are all slightly over my level when I accept them, they're falling into the "too easy" category before I've started the last few, and whatever new quests I haven't taken on are already well below my level.

Now, you'll see arguments people make. "Well, stop leveling so much. Take a break. Do other things. Explore. Craft", etc.

Problem is, what if none of that other stuff appeals to someone, at least for that period of time? What if they're really folded into the storyline, or the process of questing, are on a roll and don't want to break the flow they've got going? They're enjoying what they're doing, so they're certainly not "playing wrong", right?

If I have to pretty much force myself to stop doing something I want to do, and do something else I likely don't... just so I can side-step and avoid the rapid level progression racing me through the game, well that doesn't seem like a particularly ideal scenario to me.

My point is, if someone has to take a break from what they're doing only to slow things down, then that's really only evidence of the problem; it's not a counter against it.

And so, I think people should really relax on jumping to the conclusion that anyone stating they have one job at 50 - or even a few by now - are automatically "racing through the game". It's not even necessary to rush through a  MMO these days to achieve that. You just have to continue partaking in an activity you enjoy - or at least find ideal for whatever your goals are.

It's notable that in most every case I see of people saying they haven't reached end-game yet, they're saying that they're mixing their time up doing other things. And tha'ts fine. That works for them. But they're also not playing the game any more "right" than someone who continuously does questing, or any other activity, because it happens to be something they really enjoy.

And again, this doesn't only go for XIV. This goes for pretty much any modern/theme-park type MMO these days.

I guess I'm just suggesting that people stop and think about that before dismissing someone as having "raced through the game".  It's not necessarily so cut-and-dry, and the design of most modern MMOs makes it rather easy to do.

Serious question, how many hours a day do you play?  5 50s?  Geez, that's a lot of gaming hours...

And if you play that many hours, you're probably going to want a sandbox game, not a themepark like this one.  You'll never, ever find a themepark game that can satisfy this amount of hours.  It's just impossible.

The western community as a whole hates grinding and this is the result. People have this weird expectation of 200-300-400 hours worth of content in the first month.

The reason old MMOs had "content" that seemed to last forever was heavy grinds, long lines, xp death penalties, player factions and open PvP.

For some reason the OPs like these are always casual gamers who play minimal hours but have ridiculous achievements. One would think they could have figured out in that first month not to resub to the game because there wasn't enough to do.

If you made it through the story, have multiple 50s and beat all available content of FFXIV, you got your $30, hell you got your $43 worth if even mistakenly subbed.

Some people think 8 hours a day is casual or even moderate. I'm sorry anything more than say 3 hours a day max is more than average. That's a part time job.

Since 90% of people probably didn't read my first reply I'll just post this...

ITT 80% of the people don't understand how easy/fast it is to level after your first 50.

including in this 80% are people who don't get how many people are @ endgame, and just how limited it is.

For some people (and I've known a few), it's really the only entertainment or social interaction they can have. Life circmstances can be rather limiting, cutting one's options for recreation quite short, with tons of time to partake in it.

Really, there's nothing wrong with this.

FFXIV (or any MMO, really) is only a fast-food themepark experience if you make it one.

I would agree that most, if not all of the themepark MMOs released post 2007 fall into this, simply because the company in question chose to do it this way. Streamlining the game, making the game easier to get to cap, making content easier overall, making some aspects of the game single player, etc. You can't say that about AAA MMOs prior to 2007 though. In each of those games that made it so easy to get 99% of everything in a month or less usually bled subs like no other.

From what I have seen from so many official forums, this is easily one of the top three reasons as to why people leave those games. I think Yoshi made what I would call MMO mistake 101... well maybe 102. It is a very basic mistake that has been made over and over and over again in the past 5-6 years. Now I'm not saying that content should be gated/grinded like in EverQuest, EVE Online, FFXI, Lineage I and II (all Vanilla of course)... but at the same time you just can't do a 180 and give the option where players can obtain and experience 99% of the game within a month, or two max.

There is no longevity in it. Almost every game released post 2007 suffers from this to some extent, and got worse as the years went by. In almost every case you ended up seeing server merges of up to 80% or more, or games going F2P. Like I made a thread in the past (and posted before) there are only 3 games released post 2006 that exclusively use the P2P model. They should of honestly picked a happy medium… not to this extent, but neither the Vanilla of yesteryears.
