Its really sad that these ppl think everything is fine with the game and the problem is the players wehn its its the players that make the game what it is. If the players think the system sucks and the devs do nothing about it that proves to me that they dont really care about the players. Add in the fact that the game is going to the ps2 and really all your questions are answered. They dont care about the longtime player anymore its all about the new money and the people they will bring in on ps2. Old time players your time has pasted and your option doesnt matter.

I find this response typical of what we have come to expect from SOE.  I know, it's from LA, but it reads the same to me and, apparently, many other "accomplished players", and it's just as insulting coming from LA as it is SOE.

I (and many others) have been playing this game since the first open beta, and I have come to truly love it!  Cancelling my account was the hardest thing I've had to do in a very long time, but it seems that the only way to get LA and SOE to actually listen to the people who "pay to play" is to stop paying.

When a representative of the company that actually owns the rights to the Star Wars franchise comes out and says "that there is risk of alienating many current subscribers", you'd think they would actually listen to our feedback.  I read and posted on the forums for the CU beta every day, and watched as the negative feedback was consistently ignored and deleted, and some posters banned for posting negative feedback!  More than 80% of the respondants to the daily polls said that the CU was a LOSER!  But instead of listening to our "valued" feedback and addressing all (or even a few) issues, they shoved this lemon down our throats.

I cannot believe that George Lucas is comfortable with such a large segment of his fan-base to be insulted and alienated like this.  Word of mouth is going to kill SWG.    I know the majority of my local software retailers, as I either went to school with, worked with, or, in one case, served in the military with most of them, and I've already "poisoned the well", so to speak, about this game.

I expect I'm not alone in this, as the friends I've made in this and other MMORPGs have expressed similar opinions, and have described similar actions.  Remember the effect "bloggers" had on the last election?

I honestly doubt LA will feel any serious heat from this in the short term, especially with the debut of EP3 so close.  I expect they will probably experience a short-term boost in subscriptions, at least until players find out how pathetic the game has become.

Oh, well.  Sorry for the rant, but I've had that on my mind for quite a while, and it felt good to let it out.  I've cancelled my subscription to SOE's station pass, as I now feel they don't deserve any of my business after this, and I've been a loyal player of EQ, EQ2 and PlanetSide for years.

Whatever.  It's not as if they actually care about the people who play their games, as long as they get paid and their companies can turn a profit.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm late to meet some friends on America's Army.

Are you saying the game is going to PS2 ? Please provide a link to your source. This would explain an awful lot

Guys, I fully believe SOE on this when they say that idea was canned years ago and these are just old ads that are not getting cleared from a few websites.

But, what is almost as galling is that John Smedley's recent post (his first ever ) seemed to indicate what I have believed to be the case all along.  He stated that their were business reasons behind this upgrade, and I believe it was the consolidation of combat code between their two largest games.  This then frees the development staff from actually having to be paid for, and they can be sent on a very long unpaid vacation (downsize is another term).

This may explain the fairy tale look of the icons and special effects.  Having never played EQII and not wanting to give another dime to these guys I cannot state that combat is the same in both games now.  I would love to hear from somebody that plays both since after the CU.

I realize I said I quit. I never said it was forever :)

Does anyone have any numbers on how many folks have cancelled their accounts to SWG?  I personally closed 3.  I'd be curious to see how many folks are left and how many are currently playing WoW (including the SWG devs).

SOE tired of waiting for Classic Servers.

I know this is extremely anecdotal, and by no means scientific.  But on Ahazi tonight, Coronet and Theed were disturbingly low in population.  Felt like 1/3 the normal crowd in Coronet and 1/2 in Theed.  Maybe they are all on Dantooine joining groups and since they do not need to buff anymore not going through Theed or CNet.  But it really does seem dead.

Most people still live in the rings of houses around those two cities, so you would still expect activity at those starports.  I think tomorrow's study will be Mos Eisley and Mining Outpost.  See if the population has shifted to other locations.

I have canceled my account and my best friend canceled 3 accounts.  My wife will give it one more month.  I have friends that have come back a couple of months ago who left when the CU happened, so if they are relying on that crowd to save them, they should think again.

Since the Combat Upgrade has gone live, where have you been hanging out the most?

SOE dosnt get it...

Lucas Arts dosnt get it....

We dont want this new system. We hate it... if I hated a game this much the first time I played it, rest asure I would have never tryed to "get use" to it. It is no longer fun and SOE has done little more then twist the facts and lied about the current situation of things. They give half hearted awnsers with absolutly no backing and expect the community to accept them. They tell us its for the better good of the game they made these changes, yet they have not given one GOOD reason why. If they could give GOOD reasons I believe a majority of the people qho are mad as hell, would back off a bit.

For instance they say this new system will allow them to add new content quicker. yet the combat system is still fundamentally the same, just slower, more fantasy like, and less Star Warsy. So how does it allow them to add more content quicker? They dont awnser....

They claim they couldnt have balanced the old system. yet again this new system is a retarded version of the old system, so how can they balance this system any better then the old one? Again they dont awnser...

SOE did not do this for the players... they did it hopeing to draw in more players from games like WoW. Hopeing a simpler, more fantasy like game would bring in a diffrent type of player. Which is a kick in the face to all their vet players who have been loyal through all the other crap they put on us. The President of SOE makeing a post on the official boards shows just how concerned SOE is. As he has never logged into thoes boards before, and probly will never again. So oviously the numbers must show bad things on their end. If they think they can walk away with more players by adding this system that has cuased thousands of people to quit, and has left thousands more waiting for massive changes to it or they will quit, then so be it. However I dont think many new players will be getting SWG as you cant look anywhere without seeing bad press... and for good cause.

It has been really nice of SOE to listen so carefully to their customers. They feed us some line of crap that the game could not have been better without the silly wizard effects and the crappy new UI, and the new broken comands, and the GREAT NEW LEVEL system. Right! The old game was much better than this broken pile of crap they have layed upon the paying customers. I hope someone there is listening and ditches this pride complex they have and realize that basically releasing SWG2 in place of the established game was a mistake.

It is amazing that the SWG forums are filled with displeasure for the new game, and nothing is being done. Unless they do something soon they are sending this game to an early grave. What a shame.
