No, it's a serious question about immersion and toys in a game like this.  Some of us rather like the idea of escaping to a fantasy world and having some level of immersion in that world. It's not hard to imagine a lot of other toys like this going into the game.

I sometimes wonder if anyone even experiences immersion in these games anymore.  I miss it because it greatly enhances the experience.

In my own experience with interacting with Players ingame in the last few years I have learned this tidbit:

Most Players NOW  have no appreciation for immersion and almost no respect for Players that enjoy and appreciate Immersion. (generally speaking)

In fact it is almost dangerous to admit in a MMO that you like immersion and want more of it. That is a long ways from how the Players used to be years ago.

(I saw the new content today, super boombox is just ..... imo, so many other lore appropriate content projects they could have spent time and money developing)

Considering the fact that the Adventure Box has no effect on the actual game world and is its own separate instanced mini-game, why would it ruin immersion?

If you don't like it, don't bother with it but don't bash ANet for offering some fun mini-games that the vast majority of players seemed to enjoy.

... okay, I could SORT of understand people complaining about SAB taking up a lot of development time away from 'serious stuff', even though two weeks before it was a content patch introducing invasions and a mini dungeon and story.... and even during the SAB patch they added a whole 100 points more of crafting in 3 skills and more than enough stuff for people to do if they're ignoring SAB... and in two weeks they're adding ANOTHER chunk of 'serious content', so it's kind of strange to be ignoring all the things going on before, after, and simultaneously....

... but the people complaining that the boombox itself is taking away too much development time?  Arenanet has hundreds of employees.  This probably took a couple of low playing flunkies a couple lazy days to knock together..

You can argue 'don't want to see it', but the 'taking up too much development time' argument is really strange to me.  Cash shop things like that tend to be very low on development time, but are used to pay for the vast majority of things they're adding, which is free.

Role players always break my immersion.
I'm playing a game and then suddenly I'm in an amateur theatre and I don't like that crap.

Currently playing: GW2
Cooperative (semi cooperative)board games you should check: Pandemic, Sentinels of the Multiverse, Eldritch Horror, Descent 2.0,Level 7 Omega Protocol, Last Night on Earth

It is what it is.  There are some MMO gamers out there that don`t want to be forced into endless gear grinds.  I love the argument that there isn`t anything to do with character development.  Have you got your legendary weapon yet?  How about all the ascended gear?  Have you maxed out your WvW rank?  Have you gotten all the achievements?

There's more to the game then just getting a fancy +5 power of awesomeness every 3 months.  Obviously if you like wasting your time chasing some carrot then the game isn't for you.

The Super Adventure Box was very well received by the player base which is why they brought it back again.  For older gamers such as myself, it's nostalgia and fun.

The lack of trinity has both good and bad points.  The lack of defined roles makes dungeon experiences in the game just a huge DPS fest.  However, with the trinity, unless you're a tank or healer, you just sit around with you're thumb up your butt waiting to get a party together.  Look at Final Fantasy 14, 4 hour queues for DPS at times.

I just have to laugh at all the people who hyped this game up, leveled super fast to 80 and then complain that there isn't anything to do, when they have barely done ANYTHING.

Guild Wars hasn't fallen at all, what other MMO out there gives you constant content every 2 weeks?  OK, granted not everyone will like all the content, but get real, you can't please everyone.

I went to fire up the game and login today, and saw the notifications for the latest updates.  I really enjoyed GW1, and to this day, I'm convinced it has much more heart as a fantasy MMO game than this new one.  Guild Wars always had the holiday theme stuff, and I really enjoyed it as a seasonal break from the norm.  There were some cutesy things here and there, but GW2 just seems to be taking this garbage way too far for me.  I know most of you love it, but I just don't want to log in to a fantasy MMORPG and see people walking around with boomboxes and 8-bit video game tunes coming out of it.

This game has next to nothing for personal character development, even something as simple as being able to go fishing, or customize pets.  Yet the devs are sitting there coding toys like this boombox.

I couldn't do it.  Ultimately I just ended up removing the game today.  Free or not, it's just not a fun fantasy world for me anymore.

What do you guys think?  Does stuff like this Boombox ruin immersion for you, or do you like these kinds of toys in the game?

I stopped playing GW2 after I realized all the content being released is just fluff and has very little meaning. Seriously, endgame is a battle to be the most fashionable living being in Tyria. GW2 is a joke compared to the original Guild Wars. A sad, sad joke.

Yes please give me back my point and click movement, and no Z axis so I can't even jump in game.  I miss the dual class though.

If DaoC was so fun why don't you just play it?

9/13/13 11:06:25 AM#72

I like stuff like the boombox because its funny, Anet has humor and I love that. And yes all you ppl out playing elves in the woods in real life will probably not like stuff like this because its so unrealistic but then again how many games in this theme don't we allready have, like 99% of all mmos are this sword and magic world and all you geeks love it.

This is why I love the fact that GW2 leaves the serious side and does thing totally diffrent. Sure the game isn't perfect, far from it but it's something fresher then the rest of the games.

I don't get why ppl complain about the end game material I mean 7-10 million ppl play wow and the content of that game is completed in like 2-3 weeks and they don't release another expansion for like  2 years.

GW2 releases new material every 2 weeks is there any other mmo in the history who releases so much for free?

Sure I agree that I haven't liked everyone of them but still so much for free, and ppl complain about Anet having fun with there game and making it something to laugh at once in a while.

And still if a boombox is so unrealistic well then how many elves have you seen walking around in real life (not counting all your friends who are like 40 years old and playing lord of the rings in the woods)?

Peace out ppl

I leave you with this

Lord of the rings suck, why didn't they just fly the giant bird and drop the ring directly into the fire saving us 6 hours of movie and shorting it down to 10 min insteed?

I rather buy a new expansion with content I deem worthy of my money instead of spending money on some fluff(y) content I don't even enjoy.

I am a pvper at heart, especially a WvWer, and thus far new original content has been sparse for my favourite mode. Let me tell the devs where the right direction is with my wallet directly instead of  some arbitrary content with some arbitrary cash shop items which profits are put where I don't care.

I would think the aviator shades from when the game launched would have disuaded you from playing, or the ball cap you got , or devil horns. I got two types of wizards hats! I don't see a problem with these fluff items at all.

I am pretty sure that there will be an expansion coming up some time aswell but in the mean time it has the be better to get content every two weeks and always have something to do insteed of just hangin in a city and sitting there just looking att your screen and doing nothing and paying a sub for it.

Like I said everything hasn't been all that fun that they have released but most of it has and you get stuff to grind for and new content.

But like you I love pvp and this is something they should do more with wvw should also have more updates.

Some people miss the point.

It's not that some of us hate fun and humorous things. It's that with just a smidge of thought, they could create lore/world consistent fun items.

Instead of boomboxes, they could have added "Ancient Oakheart's Leg" and it could be a flute that you play (and it could play the same music as the boombox does). Why does "funny" have to mean "hey look, it's just like something from the regular world!"

Asura iPhone 5s coming soon.

I actually still like MMORPGs

9/13/13 11:32:17 AM#78

Ok, why would the people who created Super Adventure Box (Asurans) not be able to or want to create a Boom Box with the same music being played?

I'm sorry, you should have attacked Super Adventure Box if anything, because this Asuran creation merely stemmed from that virtual reality game.

Honestly way to late with the boombox. Asura have been break dancing since launch to what a bell, flute, classical music. I say about time and predict cardboard floor tiles next. :)

Like I said before, "ancient oakheart's leg" why not a boombox I don't see the problem?

Ancient oakheart leg is only funny for ppl whos dream is to be aragon in lord of the rings, thats why stuff from the real world is more fun for us normal ppl who doesn't have a "magic wand" on the wall in the living room at home.
