Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft' might win, by fearing to attempt

The ambiance and atmosphere... as a single entity, including but not limited to :

day/night, the way everything lights up at night, torches and windows, taverns, etc...

weather, the way the fog rolls in, the rain storms are perfect, the way your feet splash water when you run through the grass during rainfall, and grass flies from your feet when it's dry. etc...

the ambient sounds of the environments, the chatter of people growing louder as an area gets more congested with players...

the fact that you can actually sit on stumps and logs, chairs and benches, anywhere and everywhere, etc...

so many little details that are very important to me, that complement an already great game and make is truly shine.

Power without perception is spiritually useless and of no true value

6/30/13 6:42:20 PM#22
The music, the atmosphere, the stars in the nighttime sky. The rainstorms inside the cities. The fish in the lakes. The other day I saw a geyser. The game does not do much new. Its a collection of ideas we have seen before so for those looking for innovation look elsewhere. Personally i'd take a solid mmo than an innovative one at this point.

Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!

The main things it's got going for it so far for me are...

1. Nostalgia.  It feels like a classic MMO.  It feels like an FF game.  The cinematic dialogue and cutscenes even carry over the feel of FFXI.  FFXIV makes me nostalgic for all three of these things.

2. The job system.  No matter how boring leveling is, or how terrible combat is, there will always be something intriguing and interesting about leveling up various jobs.  FFXIV will give you a ton of account-wide progression goals to pursue from the very beginning that are sure to keep you busy for some time.

3. The writing.  It's a surprisingly well written game so far.  Sure it's filled with the serious-toned but ultimately light-hearted fantasy cheesiness you might expect from the more free-spirited FF games, but the story put forth works, both within the post-cataclysmic lore of the failed first iteration of the game and from the perspective of an aspiring young adventurer trying to master her chosen class.  It's also entertaining and eloquent.  Unfortunately, it's arguable excessive, especially when one of the main things the game has going for it is the aforementioned job system and all its progression glory.  When all you want to do is pump out that next level, or perhaps unlock access to the next dungeon, an hour long cutscene intermission can become bothersome.

LOL your post has been censored by Ayulin's screenshot (it blocks out your whole post I can only make out something about "murugan's quote".  Anyways I'm sorry if you were writing to say I offended you (I don't hate people just because they play/enjoy F2P games; I just don't like the model and consider it diametrically opposed to what I value in entertainment, and the way people patronize the arts).

Man when i got into FF14 1.0 beta I was hyped, but after making my char I was utterly disappointed on what a mess it was. I did not get far nor gave the game a chance. For me square made a huge dung pile and damn did it stink.

Then I heard changes were being done and I took it as well its just square putting a coat of paint on their pile of dung. But as news kept on coming I listened. Considered it a sugar coating caramelized pile of dung that maybe, just maybe the taste of dung will me masked away  with all this "new stuff" I was taking with a grain of salt at first.

But then my interest sparked as more news came in, seeing the commitment but i have seen this before, heard this before.

I applied to beta and got in on the 3rd phase. and gave the game a run just a few days ago (i didnt get into the 1st week of 3rd beta)

Holy shit. Square didnt coat the pile of dung they made, all these changes were true, from the ground up. This was a new game and started judging it by that after making my character. Unlike 1.0 I was sucked in. I was hooked, something that has not happened to me in /months/.

Burnt from wow, gw2 was just not my cup of tea, rift didnt reel me in, swtor...... and many more. some games I didnt pass the tutorial i was just that burnt and thought that was the end for me and mmos.

But something in ff14 brought me in, maybe the nostalgia of playing ff11, or that it really felt like final fantasy, something 1.0 did not.

I can get this game is not for everypony but it is the game for me.  I can see why some might be turned off of it but its aspects that might turn off some are what i find appealing.

The ambience of this game made me remember about ff11. some here already pointed out things i love of the game.

many players together in a fate encounter and it sounds more like you are on the field as you here chatter as one said like in a market place or for me a battlefield. it immerses you hearing the sounds of battle, the music, the spells and all that. No its not a group of orcs grunting n stuff you really need to experience this on your own to get the feel of it. Its a really nice touch.

Playing everything with one character, this was something i really loved from ff11 , and eve online. (games i played that let you do all with one character) Just being able to switch jobs and not having to make alts only equates to more investment into one char which leads to more sentimental value.

The day / night cycle and the feel of the areas of the game. Of what I have experenced so far, which i need to admit was not alot since i only had a few days of play, immersed me to hell and back.

I really liked that each race has their own set of stats and their clans brings even more diversity to that. It was something i did like about ff11 . There is more to it when it comes to jobs but i donno if i can speak about that yet XD.

There is still so much for me to explore on the game. this weekend I plan to give crafting a go.

FF14 did change for the better. It is much more appealing that it once was.  For me, the remake of Ff14, now known as arr. reminded me of my first jump into mmos which was ff11. no other game gave me that feeling, not even wow, which i have played from beta till today. This game is what will pull the plug on wow for me.  Maybe because im burnt on wow, or just that the charm of ff14 lures me more.

this is what draws in people like me little details, anyone can make a pretty game but when you are willing to put great effort into the little details that no one will really talk about in fact it should be things you don't even think about it should fill normal.

this is the kind of thing that pulled me into WoW and kept me their for so long, and if this game is even half of what im hearing I hope it will finally be a MMO I can call home again ever since I lost my last one.

F2P may be the way of the future, but ya know they dont make them like they used to

There are Moogles and Cactuar and Epic Turtles. I'm hooked.

I hate doing alts. The job/class system will no doubt be a grind but I love that the option is there for me. I like the hunting log and crafting I have barely touched but it looks semi-interesting.

Yes i have always loved the job system as i played FFXi but in FFXIV i think it is the crafting harvesting.I also just simply love the learning process behind the systems.

When the game goes live i already know what i will be doing first without question it will be mining in UlDah.Then i will level several classes, then most likely as soon as i can afford the Ferry i will trip to Lominsa and start fishing. One thing i remember well in FFXI was waiting too long to get into crafting, you get so far behind your levels it feels like a lot of work.So by doing the crafts and harvesting early on it will be more valuable and less work.

Having 25 spaces per equipment slots and being able to change to any new gear sets with the click of a button (not changing a whole macro around) is a huge convenience.  In most MMO's (geaer swapping allowed or not) 90%+ of my inventory is taken up by equipment.

Oh and best part is I didn't have to pay the cash shop for bag space.

Plus you will be able to eventually use Retainers, yes i love the space much better than in FFXI where it was a real problem. Also as mentioned the ease of switching between classes and crafting is nice.Quite often when i start  to get tired near the end of the night,i feel like i can't get anything done but because of the ease of switching,i could be on a Conjurer and immediately change to a miner and mine stuff right beside where i am standing.

So, what really is the reason to play and best "feature" in this game is the setting, it is in the Final Fantasy world.

So, the classes, enemies, items, MUSIC!!, art, all bring back memories of all the great games in this series and this is another one of them.

If this game was not final fantasy, nobody would play it, it would be another generic mmorpg because the quests, combat, and everything else in it have nothing new about them. Everything in this game is solid, but still I doubt it would keep many players if it was not FF.

But hey this is why this game is so great, it is actually based on a world and series millions of people have loved over the past 20+ years and is solid at everything it does.

I think this is the correct answer. I'm not a huge fan of Final Fantasy series, I really like the games I played so far (IX and X), but that's it. So after playing in the beta last weekend I can say it looks like any other recent mmorpg to me. There was honestly nothing that grabbed my attention. The only thing that reminded me I played FF was the chocobos and music.

Seems like all you guys just really like FF series and that is all. This game is really nothing that special if you take the title away. I would play it if I didn't play two other recent mmorpgs. It felt like playing one of those over again, nothing new. Sorry if this offends some hardcore fans or guys who claim "they just like it, but not that much" and still defend it like hardcore fans ;)

I have a legacy account so I already have access to both my retainers, and my armoire in my inn room.

Plus of course once housing comes along we will have unlimited storage there with all sorts of furniture like XI (except not having to live like a hoarder in a tiny inn room).

Also to the post above, typically w hen someone asks what YOU like about a game,  The "correct" answer is what you yourself think.  So in your case it would be nothing, but the other people in this thread are not "wrong" because they are stating what they like.  I shouldn't have to explain this, but this is the internet and you don't read anyways.

I guess being a long time FF player I cannot speak for those that are not. But being that I am, I can admit that there is a lot of familiarity in this game. From FF & from other MMO's. TBH, that could be why I'm liking it so much. It takes the best ingredients for this type of game, adds a bit of soul & throws it into one epic (so far) game.

It's like this, everyone wants a flying car & is waiting. Well in the meantime, since there isn't a flying car, I'll just have to settle for this landlocked Lamborghini.

Just my opinion.

Something that I found amazing is, whenever you equipe a ring you can actually see it in-game on your character. Same applies for neck gear. Very impressive.

I like how well and diverse the gear designs are. Especially considering that once endgame hits its all about the gear.

The music is A+.

Dynamic weather is really nice.

Considering how simple the low level dungeons of WoW and SWTOR were I was really impressed with the early dungeons of this game.

I also appreciate how the made BLM less one demisional having to balance between high damage spells and mana regen.

I agree that other than the Final Fantasy setting, there is nothing particularly new or special about this game. However, for some people, that setting is truly amazing, and enough reason alone to subscribe. And that's perfectly valid. Who is to say which aspect of a game should carry the most weight? For some people, the setting of a game is simply more important than the combat, or the economy, or any other number of MMO features, which, at the end of the day, eventually become stale anyway, regardless of how novel they were.

Logic, reason and fact do not supersede human nature. Ignorance reigns without justice.

Post deleted as the problem has been rectified.  :)   Thank you, mods.

When faced with strife or discontent, the true nature of a man is brought forth. It is then when we see the character of the individual. It is then we are able to tell if he is mature enough to grin and bare it, or subject his fellow man to his complaints and woes.
