In general you cant get a good feeling about a game from stills or videos, but for now all i have to say,

Wow, just Wow

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

lol Wildstar has to be the less generic MMO on production. Perhaps you meant something else.. because wildstar is not generic.
First, a brief message about what the word ‘generic’ actually means. It does not mean ‘boring’, ‘bland’, ‘simple’, ‘predictable’, ‘popular’ or ‘bad’ although generic games commonly are also some or all of the above. It means “relating to or descriptive of an entire group or class” or in the case of games, genre. So it means much the same as ‘conventional’ or ‘clichéd’.
Well for one I am assuming you meant least not less since words seemed to matter a lot to you and two I don't think you know what you are talking about. It has the same Exclamation over the head boring ass questing. Its combat is just terrible in its attempt to be half tab targeting half aiming.  So maybe in a way you are right, it isn't generic. It quite uniquely manages to take several ideas from several games and not do any of them well.

They aren't trying to reinvent the wheel. This is an themepark MMORPG but unlike others it has personality and a few new concepts that you haven't tried. Playing a game to level 6 with no gear against low level mobs isn't enough to bash a game. You probably played the stress test where the game isn't polished yet, they are hearing feedback and constantly tweaking, especially the combat.

Also another thing I want to mention. I have never played WoW in my life and when I watch streams of PvP and PvE to me it looks like total shit. I can't even follow anything it's a mess. This tells me that watching a video isn't enough to judge a game.

Looks like a pretty bland game, to be honest.

You should just try it for yourself before judging. I think it's exactly what many mmo players look for.

Well, I'm sure a  lot of people will enjoy the game, but I won't.

 • the combat system is over a decade old
 • the graphics don't appeal to me
 • the game seems to be extremely simplified. It does tell you exactly where to go for quests and where not to stand when attacked. People can completely shut down their brain while playing.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

As I see it there are three main complaints  1) Wildstar is not a complete sandbox, 2) Wildstar is too much like WOW and 3) Wildstar uses quest hubs.

Well, all those complaints are plusses to me. Actually the only thing that I was not happy with from what I saw was the GW2 like action combat. Still, I survived GW2 and, from all the other goodies that I see in Wildstart (Paths, Housing, humor and much more), I am still really looking forward to Wildstar.

Obviously you have not played many action combat games. Unless you have some OP macros with action combat - if you shut down your brain while playing you will be dead in about 3 seconds.  Try GW2 and Tera. Telegraphs or not you had better move or you are toast.

It looks extremely polished, that's for sure. I like the character design and the world design (looks very open-ended).

However, I can't say that this really impressed me in a significant way. Of course, for just the first few levels of the game, that's pretty much what you could except.

Still, I was hoping WildStar would bring some of its humoristic charm straight into those first 20 minutes or so as well.

Also, telegraphs: I don't really see what it adds to the game. Many games have been doing them for years and in the latest WoW expansion, Blizz has also been using them intensively, in a similar way as here. Personally I always found the "avoid the shit on the ground" approach to get obnoxious after a while, especially when overused in boss fights (the first dungeons and raids in TOR were horrible like that).

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

WoW had more issues at lunch than most of new MMOs.

It was such a massive success because of many things, but non of them is WoW being a better game or more polished game than what we are getting now.

Are you sure?

Example: replayability.

Six starting zones, six classes, eight races, players could level up several characters on the same faction without seeing the same content twice. Which recent MMORPG could beat that?

Also, I think that one reason why modern MMORPGs are less interesting (to me), is that there is no need to communicate anymore. Couldn't find an NPC or mobs you were looking for? Search, meet new players, ask in the chat, people communicate, people get to know each other. In modern games: the arrow points you the way, shut down your brain please, don't talk to others. Dungeons? You had to walk there, sometimes long distance. People were determined to go through that dungeon together, because they know that if they'd fail or annoy each other too much, it would take quite a while to try that again. Today? Click a button, get teleported there, rush through without a word, annoy people if you want to, and teleport back out. Bosses? In games like Wildstar, those red zones tell you exactly where to move out at what times. It surprises me that the game doesn't just take control of the character of yourself. If you met a strong boss in WoW, you asked for help in the chat or in forums. People talked to each other.

Pretty much the only reasonable comment in this entire thread.

People are doing a whole lot of either "looking for love in all the wrong places" or "looking for trouble".

This video is 20 minutes of the start of the game. It looks like its a video of someone playing it for the first time. The person playing it skips over quest dialog and repeatedly revisits quest info/telegraphs (probably because he/she skipped the quest dialog). The person scores 2 deaths in the first 20 minutes of playing yet appears to be relatively competent at the game. Oh yeah, and the person went with the soldier path.

What does the video actually tell us? Not a whole lot. We see that you have hotkeys for abilities (ZOMG it's a WOW clone!!!111!!), a dodge/roll ability (ZOMG it's a TERA/GW2 clone!!!11!!!!11!), telegraphs of your abilities and the enemy's, and a few other things. And honestly, none of this is news if you've been following the game. And we already knew the art style. Basically,  this video just reinforces what we already could have known.

At the end of the day, folks are doing what internet folks are wont to do - drawing conclusions from vapor and then spouting outrage.

Dude you should ask that from Nintendo. The answer would be "oh. We are at 33 years and counting...."

as for the WoW clone thingie, combat is extremely important in an MMO and Wildstar has more of a GW2 feel to it. It is true though that the quest structure is more WoW, but with some Public Quest taken from WAR and dynamic events from GW2. The housing is not from any game I know of, what else?

Ah yes! The journal system is from WAR, the graphics are reminiscent of WoW bu the music is more GW2 or even SWTOR. Path system? Nope. Looks original. Crafting? We know so little of it. Can't say, but it looks original. What else?

PvP... It has arenas and bgs, but so many games have those too. Some open world PvP area at level 20s, but quite unconfirmed what it is exactly and warplots. Design your own base 40vs40 destructible environment, vehicle combat etc. where that come from? I am sure someone will find an appropriate game this is taken from too.

Seems to me is quite more than a WoW clone...

A decade old, you are right, everyone knows GW2 and Tera were released in 2003 oh... Wait!

Can't argue with graphics

Simplified because it tells you where to go? What mmo have you played that does not have some sort of quest indication? I honestly can't recall. Also this one just display an arrow for a few seconds showing you a direction instead of more overt way like a giant shaft of Light from the sky. Also did not see any aids in the jumping puzzle, did you? Also have ou seen how crazy those telegraph looks later on? No? Go watch the telegraph dev speak video.

Finally this is the 6th level area. Not exactly end game.

Two things I've noticed.

This demo starts at level 6. So we don't even know what the intro levels are like. So hopefully they have a cool draw into the game world that makes us hungry for more.

Also the video gives that bleh feeling because the player is either terrible or has terrible controls to work with. Watching a boring player leads to a boring video.. at least for me.

Either way it is still early beta and I've have some reservations but I've liked the interaction Carbine has had with the community. So it gives me hope.

Never played GW2 but I keep hearing negative feedback. Game looks gorgeous I'm guessing mechanics suck ass.

I really really hope Carbine learnt all the bad from GW2 and are doing a better job.

On these forums it will be rare to hear balanced opinions.

I feel like GW2 is one of the strongest games out there personally, it plays in a way that is quite distinct from anything else.

Wildstar definitely seems to embrace a few of the things that GW2 did, but it looks like they're also going more along the classic route in other parts of the game, like general questing and PvE endgame.

True but you know a game is REALLY good when you hear A LOT of positive feedback so much that overshadows the few haters. Good examples are WoW and LoL..  For GW2 a ton of people lost interest quick, which tells me right away something.

Would be amazing if NCsoft nails this game.
