Yeah but shadowbane was designed for ffa pvp.

Wow style pvp servers aren't. They are just a fudge to put "got pvp" on the game box.

I just love it when people we don't know very well keep posting and tell us more about what they enjoy doing in games. Suddenly, it all starts to make sense.

I have to agree. PVP zones or arena have no place in a future MMO. It's part of the same old crap that is proven ineffective to the pvp community.

The DAoC model used in ESO for PvP is one well loved and reminisced by many hard core PvP fan. Myself included. They could not have picked a better PvP model IMO. Open world PvP everywhere mostly leads to two things. Players picking on low level chars and camping quest hubs. Or PvP groups spread out so thin you dont get much PvP action. All PvP focused on one big map means more large scale battles and removes the griefers.

Define "hardcore" because I do not think what you call hardcore is actually hardcore but rather normal PVP. Designated PVP spots is just esport crap.

People who play MMOs to live, eat and breath PvP, like me. If a MMO does not have a great PvP system in play its a stop over at best till something comes out that does. In my 14 years of MMOing, no one has done PvP better then DAoC. PvP thats set up for more then a leader board. PvP that has a deep impact and meaning to your faction. Thats the hard core PvPer I am talking about!!!!

Well wasn't Daoc a faction game?... 2-3 factions doesn't really make for good pvp. PVP is more than about just having good combat, it is the political, economical parts as well and as I said, having predetermined factions is imo lame and takes away making it themeparky. An example I have of what I think is great PVP is L2, you made your own clans, formed alliances and had battles with 500vs500 or such. Everything done on the players end, no premade factions and just pure carnage to get the worldbosses and castles. Sadly the combat was at times a bit boring but the scale and teamplay was great.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ07qYDvuBA this is a fight for a worldboss on the russian server cadmus.

Yes, because GW2 did a great job at creating a zergy pile of skill less crap combat in WvW and it is very very very successful in making the people in WvW happy. Games that push zergs as much as possible, sucks.

I just dont understand why games dont make 1 open world pvp server when they come out. i mean what could it hurt? if the server is empty and sucks then there you go nobody wanted to play it.  nobody is forced to play it so if they go there and get ganked all day then play a different server.

Hey I'm with you. Makes it that much better for the rest of us. I also like the idea of ffa penal colonies.

Just not sure how they'd go about it with their one megaserver tech.

Some games are not designed for it, so you can't have an open world PvP with them. GW2 is one such game.

I think open world PvP is a crock. After playing quite a few games that have it, it is more about ganking the newbs than anything else.

Exactly. And a lot of the gamers that clamor for it want it exactly for that reason: they get their jollies out of newb ganking.

Have you even played daco? mean really played it?

You think daoc pvp was any different to todays pvp?

Daoc was all about Bloody BG's and roaming around in them in groups, with 1 person using /follow and then everyone trained, and 1 mezz stunning everyone and everyone aoe down. You dont know wtf you are talking about. Daoc pvp was not hardcore, it was basically training and 1 person running around for 1 hour with 15 other people afk on follow.  The world pvp was the bloody same. It was just a zerg and nothing more. Daoc's pvp is the excat same pvp daoc was, except their bloody castles were out in the world.  You dont have a bloody clue what Daoc pvp was.  Yes it was cool for a while, after that was nothing more than a zerg and /follow, so please stop chatting shite.

Like in WoW when questing in somewhere like Ashenvale and you kill someone from the other faction also questing but they get upset and go get their 'main' for revenge. I found it amusing that they raged about it and had to get a much higher level.

I don't mind Open world PvP if they had no ganking or npc killing. Kill all the guards and peasants you want, but have the lowbies, quest givers and quest mobs(if any) unattackable.

If people still complain about this, then you know it's for the griefing...

Yup thats why when ESO comes out I will be playing ESO. Few reason why WvW is nothing but zergs. Almost no reason to defend and defending also has very little reward as well. In ESO you will have a Mega-dungeon like DAoC Darkness falls. In DAoC we used to rotate people in and out of Darkness Falls and defending keeps to give everyone a turn. Also ESO has made a huge promise of making defending have some very heavy rewards. GW2 gives you almost no reason to defend but ESO is already heading back to DAoC roots on making it well worth doing. Sure there wil be zergs in ESo as well but much like DAoC the organized PvP guilds knew how to deal with them and I have seen 20-40 players take out 80-100 players with skill. Like I said, if ESO is 75% of what DAoC was, ESO will be the best PvP game out now.

I'm reading alot about griefing.

Would it be fair to say that those that don't want more aspects of pvp in the game wouldnt be against it if there was a way to minimize griefing in the game?

I would say 'certain' aspects of PvP as opposed to more. I don't see ganking lowbies in their zone of progression open world PvP. It's just an allowance for bullying. The end result is that player having been picked on will, at max level return the favor.

This isn't a cycle worth repeating, especially if your game is trying to attract PvE oriented minded players.

Griefing occurs in these pve games like wow where they just flick a switch for "pvp" on some servers because there's bugger all else to do but greif.
