If we look at Rift, that game was not rushed at all. It was well polished during beta. It was finished at launch. The speed of new content added was amazing. To me it seems that Trion has a vision. They have a plan for Archeage. It will be ready when it's ready. Downsizing in personal could also mean they took a different option. Reduce the costs so they do not have to release an unfinished product to pay the bills.

This might be the most ridiculous post i have ever seen.  Yes they layed off people after production of a major release finished.   You don't need a full team to produce DLCs.   The show has created buzz in the TV crowd.   It got renewed after 3? 4? episodes for another season.   It is SyFy's highest rated show and the game has over a million accounts in just 2 months.   Just simple math excluding freebies and such, that's 60 million dollars within 2 months of release.  Not to account in for cash shop items (which many people buy, my guild always has 5 or 6 people activating boosts weekly), DLC season passes, and collector edition versions of the game.   I would not be surprised if they have raked in 100 million dollars already.  Sure this is no WoW standard, but by all means this is a GREAT start to a successful MMO.

So tell me again why Trion Worlds would drop AA?

You were doing well 'til that little faux pas, Defiance has had 1 million REGISTRATIONS which is meaningless unless they all bought the game but then Trion would have said 1 million games sold, Trion are good with mincing words. Though it shows it works you fell for it.

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/loadNews/27505

What are people registering for? There's no trial, and it's B2P, are they including buddy keys or something here?

Registration for beta? whatever it is its great PR, that guy fell for it how many others have as well? they did the same with Rift, sadly End Of Nations couldn't muster that sort of support. I was in beta for all three I must be mad

Its relatively easy to polish up a game with very few original ideas that was tiny in scope and linear in execution. As the ideas are all mature dev's should know how they work and how to implement them. Archeage isn't like that its a much more grand scope for an MMO.

Didn't know Trion was creating Archeage from scratch. They are getting it ready for a Western audience. Those 2 things are completely different. You did a great job of making yourself look like the fool though.

Really? thanks for you kind words and your participation next time maybe you'll engage brain or even read the whole thread. Do you really think its just a case of translating Korean to English and then release the game? or might there be a touch more involved?

The only thing Trion was suppose to do was translate and distribute. But im sure they are going to westernize it and ruin it as a whole, then again adding jet packs and cars to the game with wooden ships and old looking cities is kind of off the wall also.  They may be trying to do too much with the fluff.

But the fact no word from Trion yet after months of working on it has me sceptical. I figured after such a huge event they would atleast update their webpage to have AA on there ;) I dont see any mention of AA on their main website, maybe i missed it, who knows.

Maybe Trion are waiting to see how the Rift f2p goes down first as I imagine thats taking up a lot of the resources they have left.

I know. In fact, I've plenty of first-hand experience in the matter. Still, it's usually not even comparable to creating that software.

Though thats probably true and I bow to your experience in these matters, Trion have Defiance, Rift and supposedly End of Nations being actively developed at the same time. Is there room for a proper, thorough and quality translation of Archeage now that they are downsizing?

Impossible to say from what we know, but if they can't do a proper translation of a high-budget and potentially very profitable MMO, they're really screwed. I don't think they are, considering Rift's move to F2P will probably generate lots of income and Defiance was probably not disastrous, even if it underperformed.

I think EnMasse would have been a better choice.  They have experience with a launch and with localization from Korean.  I would love to know what made XL choose Trion over another publisher.

With that said, Trion is a good publisher.  They are great at marketing which is what you want out of a publisher.  Their development foibles with their various games shouldn't be the measuring stick by which they can publish a game.

Curse you AquaScum!

Yeah i dont understand why everyone keeps bashing SOE. They have done a decent job with their MMORPG's.

More so than some of these other companies.

I agree Enmasse would be a great choice their translation of Tera is superb but I really do disagree that Trion is a good publisher. They would not be in the state they are now if they were, their marketing is as bad a Arenanet's for overstating things and bigging things up to ludicrous levels. If the Rift f2p doesn't bring in the players which I don't think it will, the company is in dire straits because of bad management ie biting off more than they could chew basically.

Whoever gest to publish it... I just hope they get rid of some of the "asian" character models. Looking like a metrosexual pussy and sounding like a fruitcake are not good in the US market. From what I can tell, the amount of people in the US who like that garbage and pay to play a game is roughly 1%

Lol, Trion paid a nice sum of money to publish ArcheAge here in the west. They are not gonna go and give up the rights to another company. In fact they even hired a new Executive Producer for publishing Third party games like ArcheAge.

This whole thread is stupid...lol

If you consider having an eye for quality and knowing what works in the US an issue.... well yes I do. There is a reason that every other major Asian title hasn't had long lasting success here, and the reasons I listed are most of it.

i doubt the figure is as low as 1 percent, but, you do have a point about asian games art styles not being very popular in the west, which they very clearly are not, but its not the only reason why most asian games don't make it in the west, as imo, its also down to the style of gameplay, their pretty much all of a sameness. Which imo, has a lot to do with why games like Aion, Lineage, Tera etc, just didnt make it outside of the asian market.

I was in closed beta for Rift and Alpha for both End of Nations and Defiance. EoN never appealed to me from the start and I'm not surprised it wasn't a success but I did buy and play Rift for six months as did many others, so I'm sure they made plenty of money there already. I also bought Defiance even though I'd already completed all the story missions and side missions in testing so knew it wouldn't have much longevity. However, it's a buy to play game with a fairly high initial price and undoubtedly they already made a huge profit form the initial sales, which were quite healthy whatever the exact figure.

I doubt Trion have too many money worries.

I'm sure if the price is low enough, someone like PerfectWorld will be delighted to add AA to their growing stable of F2P titles...

DONT SAY SUCH THINGS LOL. I want to play this game, and if perfectworld buys it, I am def out 100%.

Ridiculous speculation, delivers on doom and gloom, but fails in reality.

Dev studios trim the temps, contractors and redundant positions post launch. Defiance had a hard launch date on 3 platforms, the number of staff hired was simply too high to maintain. The last couple of months prior to launch, they were still hiring aggressively.

One little fact that is missing, Defiance is out of San Diego, AA will be localized out of Redwood city which had no layoffs this time.

But ignore all this, lets all go back to making up more drama.

I dont know what is more ridiculous, the OPs doom and gloom or the hopeless optimism that these layoffs were just the usual contractors/temps being let go.  they are both equally removed from reality I think.

Or its a reality and they are being hush hush about it. It takes an average of 6 months for asian material to be brought ot the western people. Its been 4 months now and not a single word...........no closed beta, no messages from jake or trion, no information at all, no vidros......

You kind of think about such a huge game and nothing said on it, only leads to speculation with good reason. Will not buy into all the personal hopes and beliefs on this one.
