I made a new character yesterday. Sylvari zone. I started doing 1st event. 4 players showed up. Sure it wasn't zerg fest but it also wasn't empty. All those threads: this game is empty or this game is super full are in your heads. It's all perception. You don't like the game you will pretend it is dead. You like the game you will pretend it is fuller than it really is.

Actually if you don't like the game you will say it is dead in one sentence and in the next (if not the same) you will say everything is a huge zerging.

Apparently it is empty but at the same time so full everything is zerged - the marvelous world of GW2 haters.

The game is so so empty they just had problems with the mass of people logging to do the new content,

Currently playing: GW2
Cooperative (semi cooperative)board games you should check: Pandemic, Sentinels of the Multiverse, Eldritch Horror, Descent 2.0,Level 7 Omega Protocol, Last Night on Earth

I've started playing 3 weeks ago on Ring of Fire server and only had the 'problem' at the 50/60 zones. Just seemed to be able to do less of the events due to people being more spread out.

Do mind I said less, most events where doable with the small groups out there just that I had to skip a few champion events.

Maybe it's the server (some are more pve minded) but you can guest on other servers to see if it is that. Might be the wrong time.

I can see how it would effect your view and enjoyment of this game if you have a hard time doing events/seeing people around.

I only joined a guild at lvl 80 since I never had a NEED for it. It is however more fun in a guild. But it's nice to see that you can take your time choosing one and still have a lot enjoyment in the game and not being punished because you are guildless.

Quite possible actually. The people that are playing are zerging the content that is there.......

if that was true they wouldn't be complain the world was empty.

Either it is empty or everything is a zerg - it can't be both at the same time.

If you don't like zergs you go to an emptier place. If you don't like empty places you go to where the people are massing.

I've become dependent upon spell check. My apologies for stupid grammatical errors.

5/17/13 7:43:54 AM#26

"Lots of new players" is a relative thing. I would bet that the vast majority of players are at or near the top levels in the game and are doing whatever it is people do in GW2 at the top level.

I would also bet that people don't play nearly as regularly as they would with a subscription game. The people play when they want to play, instead of playing every day because they've spent the money on the sub.

Combine these two things and you can have a "booming" game, where a new player doesn't see too many other players.

For every large, complex problem, there is a simple, clear solution that also happens to be absolutely wrong.

It can be both. At 8AM it's a ghost town. At 10AM it's a zerg. At 12PM it's a ghost town. And so on.

When you're leveling, you don't have nearly as much choice about where you go. If you want to complete the earlier content, you go to the earlier content, doesn't matter if everyone else is at later game content or not.

For every large, complex problem, there is a simple, clear solution that also happens to be absolutely wrong.

To answer to the thread title "question"...

I don't understand how people can eat Brussel Sprouts. Just the smell makes me half sick. Yet millions in the world enjoy that vegetable.

Because there are different things for different people.

Because not every MMORPG player is a slave of the gear grind raid centric endgame based WoW clones.

Playing now: Archeage, WoW, Landmark, GW2

Top 3 MMORPGs played: UO, AC1 and WoW

Honorable mentions: AO, LotRO and GW2.

Yep it's crazy isn't it? They failed to do the one thing they said they'd do in 7 years of controversial interviews which was add permanent DE's and permanent metas across the entire map.

That's why no one is in those zones for any other reason then dailies and only briefly.

Add to that the insult of their living world nonsense an experiment gone wrong, and you have empty zones.

Guesting also doesn't help however we've seen how they can manipulate the servers messages on whether or not they are full (by changing the number of people allowed per server up or down) meanwhile even while people are not on that server technically thru guesting the servers will still say full and they don't show if people are actively logged in.

Then they introduce a truly sinister box system that has true RNG (you know the kind that takes your money and gives you nothing) written all over it with cosmetics you can't get from just playing someone has to have bought the box in the store to get it.

This game is sooooo far away from what they promised it would be I am ashamed to have said I tried it.

Of the 40-50 guildies and friends I know that tried GW2 only one played it longer than two months.  He lasted 4 months before he went back to Rift.  None of them say bad things about GW2 except that it has no endgame or a terrible endgame.  That is the problem a game designed to not have en endgame is a game people will not play long.  Its fine for ultra casuals or people that do not play MMOs but players that play MMOs for endgame leave quickly.

Simple OP, The game is thriving because of it's pay model. They keep those around who are there to stay with the constant "living world" content. I'm not into to that kind of content, because if you miss a weekend event, you can't complete it.

My main reason for quitting Gw2 was the movement. I played an Asura and every time he moved there would be a little jump stutter step thing before and after the movement, cute I will give you, but a pain in the ass to do all the jumping puzzles with.

But back to my point, there is a "feeling", if you will, of great value with the B2P model. Folks feel they are getting something for free. I on the other hand am nervous of free stuff, as it is often of a lower quality.

They said they would add and remove - they added some permanent DEs and some temporary DEs that they removed.

They have been changing the servers capacity since the headstart.

Didn't they say long before the game was released that the cash shop would sell cosmetic stuff?

Wasn't actually the problem people saying they would sell power and when they added the boosts to the cash shop people were raving at that?

So 8 months later their RNG boxes have cosmetics has they have said it would and you complain about that?

Its not thriving its elvolving. Let me explain,  Arenanet has already won because every single person who has bought the game is able to login whenever. My hunch is they will improve the game through expansion packs and people will flock back munch through it and then decide how often they will play.  That is the crux whether you login daily, weekly, monthly etc. You still own the game and are not content blocked by a subscription.

I am yet to hit 80, I still need to decide on a main, probably a mesmer or thief, I still need to find a guild and I still need to WvWvW properly.

When the fans cone in to a thread and claim they see people everywhere, what hey really mean is they see people in those few large events that are on a timer that they farm for rares and exotics.

More assumptions based on no facts.

I'm a MMO player since the beta of UO, played all the big ones and most of the smaller ones too, I've been raiding "hardcore" (3 hours a night 4+ days per week) and been part of a "server first" guild in WoW, yet I like GW2 a lot and think it's the best MMORPG released since Asheron's Call and WoW (as it was until WotLK, not the actual dumbed down pile of crap).

It's fine to have an opinion, but assumptions about how other people play are never a good idea.

I don't know... I'm playing just as much or more than I did in my WoW raiding days, but it's not scheduled, just because I want to. Well, Friday night reset... I guess that's technically scheduled, but if you WvW that's kind of "THE" time to play. Looked last night, I've 1960 hours so far in this game and I'm seeing people with well over 2K.

You see WoW has an excuse why people have left the old leveling zones, it is an old game. The same with other games but GW2 has no excuse why this happened. GW2 is still very new and yes op the living world in GW2 is pretty much barren for the simple fact that people have already left for good. You will only get a handful of people at best in the lower level areas.
