Not sure if OP is serious.  I disagree that this is what the genre needs.  Small, linear and simple is not what this genre needs. I just do not understand how people are so in love with this game.  I find it difficult to heap praise on an MMO that lacks an open world and is linear.  Those are the two worst things a virtual world could have.

It should be as simple as everyone has different taste...

Ya, not every MMO is going to be everything to everyone. Sure, this game is smaller and more linear, but the next MMO on the horizon may be open world with open world PvP...or whatever it is that other people want in their MMOs.

The point is, just because the game isn't everything to everyone, it doesn't make it bad. It's good at what it aims to be good at.

I agree. The game is painfully linear, closed off, and instanced. It ruins immersion entirely and makes it hard to feel like I'm in a virtual world. It's not fun to level in that way. The combat is awful. If you want well done action combat play TERA. This game's combat is a mess at best. The graphics are mediocre compared to a lot of the games out there today. The character customization is a joke because everyone looks the same. The cash shop and various currencies force you to spend money (did you know the currency you get from your daily devotion to your god disappears if you don't log in for a few days? Yea, all of it is gone, can't buy anything with that unless you log in every day for months). This game is nothing special and everything it has, other games do much better.

Well except that is not even true. What is it even good at? What should I pick up Neverwinter for that another game doesn't do better?

The game is too closed for any enjoyment is what I think.

I guess you shouldn't. Obviously the game doesn't fill the needs you have for it to qualify as a fun game. Luckily it was free to try, so you lost nothing other than some download time and a little time giving the game a try.

To me the game feels like a old arcade game, not a world. I think the animations on the mage in particular horrible at best, the others were mediocre imho. The foundry is nice, hope they take that to other games. I havnt been able the have to much FUN because of the above, I feel like its a cheaply made low quality game with ugly character models and an uninteresting world. But thats just me of course, I have two friends who the game.

I just don't get this part. I mean, I understand that it is a preference thing but to me it sounds just like "Some people prefer Lutefisk." I just can't even imagine how that is possible. Now pretty much everything else about GW2 was incredible. If I could take NW combat and put it in GW2, I would probably lose my job and forget to eat.

Its just tastes my friend... I thought GW2 was awful yet i like nw a bit more ( go figure ).  On the combat side they both strike me as shallow however... I think the nw lore is what is keeping me a bit interested and the game looks damn good.

I certainly didn't mean to imply that the NW world is not good. The story is very good actually. I am enjoying NW a lot. I was just remarking on the combat.

For me, the chaotic nature of GW2 combat became a deal breaker. I did get a guardian to lvl 80 and a ranger to lvl 30 but I just couldn't finish the game. Only got about 40% of the world explored and never saw any of the zones on Orr. Its a shame because I would really love to see more of it but I feel like its locked behind one of the worst combat systems ever conceived. I would even prefer it if they went back to the system they had in GW1.

It's good at everything it does. It's good at causing me to have fun playing it. It's good at presenting interesting quests to embark on. You shouldn't pick up Neverwinter at all, you don't seem to agree with the opposite opinion. That's fine though, you should really stop acting like your opinion that neverwinter does nothing better then other games is fact though.

My one major problem I have with the game is that everyone starts in the same spot with the same main story missions, so playing more than one or two characters through is gonna be enough for most people, I'd say. I wish choosing where your home was before crashing on Neverwinter's shores did more than give you different choices for a starter title. And if it does, enlighten me.

From the reading the entire thread I see people complain many different reasons; some linear gameplay but they prefer games that offered linear gameplay? Alright... Others graphics.. Some are vintage styled EQ fans so they consider this trash in comparison to their glory days but they most likely consider everything trash compared to their glory days. I started out in DIablo and then StarCraft and then Ultima Online as my first Online titles... I also struggled for a while to get over the "glory days" but I got over it... So should you; No game will be like Asherons Call or EverQuest and unfortunately those games kind of suck... If you really still thought they were the best product on the market you'd be one of the people playing them and in reality it's time to evolve.

The one I have the biggest gripe against are people who are downing the combat saying that garbage tab target system is superior ? I get people have their preferences but this system is what's new... when you had 9 hot bars and 100 skills you didn't use those 100 skills and the 30 you might of used you macro'd them... you didn't play the game or acquire skill... you acquired technology to play the game for you. You are the reason Developers said alright... this system is stupid we need a easier system with less skills because no one wants to actually use 100 skills. Stop living in the past. Fondling your broken and unfun systems that even you exploited so you wouldn't have to deal with it. Action combat is the future; I'm guessing the soft targeting Neverwinter has will be the ideal system for the successor to WoW and the more elitist titles will have a more strict targeting system.

Some where down the line people forgot games are meant to be fun, enjoyable.... People get paid hundreds of thousands a year to livestream League of Legends a isometric game with 4 skills... Neverwinter has the simplicity and skillful experience I like in a MMO, I feel like everyone can compete so when I top the charts in PvP; I know they all had the same chance but it was I that performed well, was my team that used our skills better. Of all complaints; people complaining about the combat is the one I will never respect because your old garbage is old garbage it's done... it's only the minority with their g15's and razer nagas who want to use it... I remember when G15's were considered an exploit because it gave an unfair advantage to those who had it over those who don't. It's just silly limiting players for a third party monetary advantage removing the need for any skill.

OP  5/13/13 2:56:37 PM#53

Nice post SupportPlayerMM , I agree with almost everything.

People are loosing perspective, getting bitter, spoiled and generally don't know what they want. They are getting professionals of bashing games on forums with nothing constructive to add.

Maybe they don't want to admit to themselves but they might just burnout from the mmorpg genre altogether since they can't find any game good enough.

I remember camping one NPC for 12 hours just to get a chance of one drop on EQ. Those times are gone things evolve whether you like it or not thats the way things are.

I gotta say I disagree with you on the highlighted note. The game, to me at least, feels as polished as any other AAA MMO launched within the last few years. The world is definitely linear, but they managed to at least make it visually appealing throughout the zones. I feel like they nailed the atmosphere pretty well, but that's just another personal opinion.

The models and armor graphics look pretty good to me, as well. First time I've played a hafling/hobbit and not deleted it immediately after seeing the combat animations.

took the best features from other mmorpgs, improved them and added really innovative and groundbreaking features.

If I had to buy this game and pay a monthly subscription I wouldn't be choked. I was taken by surprise by the quality of this game:

- combat is simply the best

- UI is very intuitive and polished

- classes are interesting and the soft trinity really nailed it

- the game feels alive, people always running around everywhere, lots of events going all the time

- animations and graphics are very good

- the Foundry is genius

BUT the most important, its really a FUN game to get into, grats Cryptic , the mmorpg genre really needed this!

mediocre game is mediocre....

Two of the classes are not even needed because GF and GWF are both unnecessary the DC can tank just as good and will always have aggro in the dungeon anyway...

The GWF atm has such low dps that there is no reason not to take a CW, TR in there place....

And you think the soft trinity is fine try playing a healer or tank and then see how fine it is.......

The Bosses always have the same mechanic they do nothing but summon tons of adds that's the strategy for every boss fight doesn't matter what it is it summons adds.......

People are in LOVE with this game? ... It is just the rush of the presence and the smell of something new. Soon it will be over. Sometimes paying for a game you expect a proper game but then again the industry fools us daily. I am just habituated now into losing money in mmos, precisely the "Free To Play" model ones.

Personally I found neverwinter to be disappointing, it's far to instance based for me to ever consider this as my next big mmo. Instead of being excited about it I'm about to uninstall it instead. O well guess I'm now waiting for elderscrolls, final fantasy and wildstar now. Hopefully one of those will be what I'm looking for.

These threads are such hater bait.

There's a saying about evolution and why we have two eyes and two ears but only one mouth. Clearly it didn't see the internet coming or it never would have given us ten fingers to type with.
