As a GM back in the day (pen & paper RPG) I had 2 players fighting for potions one time.

- Hey, I don't have full HP, I need this potion to heal myself

- Then drink the one you already have in your inventory, I don't have any

(FIGHT STARTED!)

What you experienced is just what can happen in Dungeons & Dragons - the pen & paper RPG - pretty realistic IMHO! :D

I feel for you. Unfortunately, this is the gaming community today, and why I solo games today. I remember the days of EQ1 when ppl were courteous, friendly and thoughtful and it was so much fun to play. I couldn't wait to get online to meet new players and group up for dungeon runs. I have been in so many groups where ppl are like you described. It is very sad. :(

If you can't kill it, don't make it mad.

Thats fairly typical of the crowd I've seen. They need on almost everything.  CW rush ahead and start nuking before the tank has established aggro, then howl like banshees when they die.  But its not just Neverwinter.  I'm seeing this pretty much across the board.

Impatient, thoughtless, ignorant and foul mouthed pretty much describes most of these people.  Given that the gaming audience is becoming more and more a cross section of the general population, thats pretty much to be expected.

The loot system needs to be refined, so that one can only need on something used by your current class.  Beyond that, just say NO to PUG's.

Why is it that fantasy trolls are vulnerable to fire, but internet trolls thrive on flame wars?

5/13/13 10:14:51 AM#44

Yea yea bad experience in a dungeon we all have either heard or experienced this story.

Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that the community sucks, just that you had bad luck getting teamed up with these jerks.

Every game has them, but not every game's community is accurately reflected by them.  I personally haven't dealt with anyone like that, but then again I might just be very lucky when it comes to groups (or maybe I haven't been paying attention).

Since when is Tuesday a direction?

I cannot fiddle but I can make a great state of a small city.

5/13/13 10:28:10 AM#45

It's a vicious cycle unfortunately.

I've had this happen many times, which leads to me not wanting to PUG, which then leads to not wanting to communicate with anyone i don't know, which leads to friends and guilds keeping to themselves and not making friends, which ultimately leads to cliques and a fragmented community.

This is also why i don't read in game chat anymore and put all my focus into TS/Vent.

Bring back the days when you could ostracize douchebags to the point where their only option was to quit the game.  You can't really do that when it's so easy to hit a button and join any content available.

I would make a comment saying that some of these problems are fixed in games like GW2 (the loot part at least), and would recommend that a loot system like GW2 would improve NW, but then everyone would complain that NW is now a Gw2 clone.

Had a similar experience. Nobody said a word until the Cleric rolled on some CW loot, then i asked why and got the reply "it's for a friend". The rest of the group proceeded to roll need on all the Cleric loot and he didn't win a thing after that.

One moment still sticks in my mind for bad and kinda of funny gaming experiences.

The first I was using the dungeon finder in WOW right when Cata was released.  The group had formed and when we all entered the dungeon we started to greet each other.  So far so good until I greeted everyone by saying "Howdy all".  Suddenly the main tank starts to go on a tirade about how Southerners were illiterate small minded bigots.  Despite me living in the South, I brushed it off wanting to start on the dungeon.  When the tank realized he couldn't make me mad he left.

To OP I just feel its something a lot of games right in that beta/release period experience en masse.  Players who don't plan to invest time into the game or its community hope aboard just to make play time miserable for others.  With this being an FTP I say we'll probably see more of it.  But eventually things will work out.  Just gotta have some faith and hold out XD

Sadly this trend is not unique to Neverwinter, in fact I have noticed this form of behavior from a lot of games where auto-match making is in place.

In those peoples eyes, you are essentially a 'tool' to which they use to complete the content. They don't want to react or talk to you, they just want to do the task at hand. Sadly, there is a lot of ninja like behavior going on as well which is disappointing.  I have found that asking for a group in zone chat in the area where the dungeon is yields not only swift responses and team queuing but I have also added a good number of people as 'friends' to whom I like to match up with.

Since then, I don't really have any trouble and we tend to move on quite quickly and have a laugh.

MMO's by their nature are 'social' games, but they have been geared to help causal players (which I can understand) so interaction with others is becoming less and less a requirement to progress. However, if you start to weed out these people that behave as such then they will either reform to be more social and jovial or they will leave all together.

PWE community have always been like this, it is also same with AGE. you must be new to PWE games. their community is as bad as their cash shop.

i want an open world, no phasing, no instancing.i want meaningful owpvp.i want player driven economy.i want meaningful crafting.i want awesome exploration, a sense of thrill.i want ow housing with a meaningful effect on my entire gameplay experience, not just some instanced crap.i want all of these free of cost, i don't wanna pay you a cent, game devs can eat grass and continue developing game for me.
Seems like that is the current consensus of western mmo players.

What I hate is when the tanks or healers essentially try to hold the other players hostage using their role as a way to get what they want.  I've seen that in multiple games

Game is fun, but the community is garbage. After my nth dungeon run with people rushing, needing on loot they can't even use and managing only to type "retard lol" in party chat rather than any meaningful communication, I logged out and haven't logged back in since.

Oh well back to Fallout 3...

TERA fixed this ninja problem by not allowing anyone who cant use the gear to roll for it.

Show this thread to the official forums in Neverwinter and suggest they fix the loot roll by doing the same TERA did.

My endgame begins with character creation and ends with a new mmorpg

Is this your first time playing a Free to Play game?  You used Guild Wars 2 as a reference for your community experience, but that's buy to play.  It's common knowledge that people act like douche bags when they have nothing to lose.  There's no investment to worry about losing so they don't care about anything and act however they want.  I've played many games and a large majority of Free to Play titles are comprised of mostly idiots, trolls and hackers.  It's rare to see anything else and you shouldn't expect it or you'll just end up disappointed.

Or, when you play with PUGs expect what you got, sometimes (just sometimes), you'll get something more and be surprised but don't let that fool you.

my name for pugs is "legions of Doom". The only I ever got consistently from any pug, regardless of game, was death and a repair bill.

Currently bored with MMO's.

Pretty much this.  If it sells well on the market and isn't BOP, then everyone "needs" it, to make cash if not for any other reason.  Best thing to do is establish loot rules early on, get everyone to roll on only loot for their class or make it open season on all BOE's and then people can decided to trade for them later.

But the lack of social graces and communication largely describes why I don't play dungeon oriented games anymore unless I can roll with friends/guildies, just don't have the stomach for it anymore)

Hey guys/gals,i'll get to the point, since it's late night.

Ok, so here's my story:i'm having a BLAST playing Neverwinter with a friend of mine, beautiful atmosphere, nice graphics for an old engine, good action combat....disgusting....community?

Why disgusting? you may ask?,well here's what happened.I'm level 55 Trickster Rogue,my friend is the same level,Guardian Fighter class(yes, he does not have any problem tanking, actually he can tank perfectly in dungeons). We wanted to join a level 55 dungeon, which is the one from Underdark.

We entered,we said "Hi/Hello".Nobody said a single WORD(not the first time that happened in the game).Ok....We began working our way into the depths of Underdark, until the Control Wizard from the party charges alone to a cluster of mobs without letting the tank go first(EVERY CW with i've been with has done that),then,OBVIOUSLY he dies in a matter of seconds. Thanks to him we almost wipe.

Words of the CW:fucking idiots attack

Me:finally someone decided to talk

CW: shut the fuck up kid

Ok....i know where this is going...we continued like nothing happened there(of course no one said a word after that). We arrived at 1 of the bosses, killed him,a rare dagger (blue)level 56 dropped, but the Cleric of the group decided to press the need button.

I asked him/her why did he/she need it,the answer was: "mine lol".After that i told him/her need it more than him/her,since i have a level 46 green dagger and obviously,i'm the only rogue on the party. And yeah that's called a ninja...

The next answer was: oh the drama right? lol

Friend of mine: What the fuck are you doing? give the dagger to my friend,he needs it more than you do

Me: it's ok, this is like playing with bots lol

No response after that.Ok,i understand that he/she may be want the dagger for selling it at the AH,but where's the "kindness" in this party? i mean,i would let the rogue have the dagger if i were the Cleric.

After all that, we finally get to the last boss, we kill him,i leave the party without saying anything.Of course, they don't deserve any "goodbye" or anything like that.

I log off the game after that(2:35 a.m),when my friend tells me via Steam, that this guys started telling him this:

Player:does your gay friend wants the dagger? i can give it to him.NOT

Friend (he was still in the party): "so you got a blue dagger. please type it in your curriculum, and  tell it to your mom, so you can get a cookie"

He got insta-kicked.

So what i'm saying is this: WHAT THE F00K?. I've never seen a behavior like that...not even in GW2(and no, i don't play WoW since 2008). Is this is what i "missed"?....holy shit...

If this is what the furure holds in Neverwinter..well...time to say goodbye,if i want to play with bots, i'll play Dragon's Dogma..thank you very much.

PD:It seems i did a wall of text... oh well.. i hope you guys enjoyed.

tbh this is what you get when you don't have a sub based community and a f2p game that was handed to people like candy at no cost.literally anyone can d/load and play this game.chances are you got some nerdy 10 yr old lol.been in a couple of pugs in neverwinter myself but have not come across that type yet..no doubt I will.i just leave the party and look for another one.one thing  will say..don't let the twat put you off enjoying a good game.

This kind of action is forcing out the decent people or making decent people play like the assholes just to stay competitive. It's not like it used it to be in the old days where communities where small enough to single out the bad apples and shame or ignore them into either treating others with respect or not playing. Another thing is since mmorpg's have taken off so much and attracting in new players, they generally do not know what's expected of them. Some kids I was in a party with had only ever seen players roll need for everything so that's what they thought was what you do, you try to correct them and then the next party they join goes back to rolling need on everything so they do as well. Seems to me to be the norm now rather than the exception. I know when I am in a pug with cool people I really appreciate it rather than expect it like I used to. I think it's up to the more experianced players to educate people but also up to the dev's to put the tools in place to help. I.E Fix the loot system so that the little asshats can't roll need on things they can't use, player tribunals would also be a step in the right direction. I have seldom in all my travels met a teenager who wasn't a prick. I know becasue once I was a teenager and I was a prick and so was everybody else I game with. It doesn't mean that they will grow up into the kind of shitheads they behave like now or that it's the end of the world for decent people, it's just a logical progression wen an online game get's popular. I think we need the tools to police ourselves a lot better and also need the Dev's to give more of a rats arse about the kind of people who play their games instead of just seeing flashing dollar signs everywhere.

These mmos are all about support toons and support services and make some dollars. Really a shameful trend in mmo industry these days. Just made to loot dollars.

" Don't listen to anyone who tells you that you can't play this or that. That's nonsense. Make up your mind, and you'll never whine or repent about gaming hours anymore, then have a go at every Game. Open up the Internet, join in all the Mmorpgs you can. Go make the Guild. But never, never let them persuade you that things are too difficult or impossible. "
