If it takes an average of four months to reach a level where you can make a difference in the Eve universe, then the question would be, why doesn't CCP allow people to pay four months worth of subscription all at once to gain that level of skill points? For that matter, what about any MMO? If it takes an average of two months to reach "max effective level", then why don't most MMO publishers accept two months worth of payment and advance players to the "max effective level"?

I don't expect publishers to do this, and to be clear, I don't want them to do this. I just wonder why they don't. If game publishers are universally money grubbing slugs, why aren't they money grubbing more than they are?

For every large, complex problem, there is a simple, clear solution that also happens to be absolutely wrong.

It's because the very people that would pay for the ability to reach max effective level immediately are precisely the people that NEED stratification to make themselves interested in playing the game.  They are called grinders or metagamers, sometimes powergamers..

Note how the F2P system works.  A bunch of people pay nothing at all to try the game out and hover in the lower to mid levels of the game.  These people are what makes the end-gamers feel like they are important.  If you don't believe me, go read all the forum posts of metagamers congratulating themselves for "helping some poor newb from being a total gimp without decent gear."  It's truly comical, because the end-gamers antics are actually preventing any influx in new players.

Its a catch-22 situation.  Gameplay-wise, there is no purpose to levels anymore.  Deleveling now occurs automatically in most WoW clones, so you can't even metagame the way MMOs used to allow.  Since roleplayers simply aren't really involved anymore, there's no purpose for them, either.  But if they got rid of the leveling scheme in MMOs, they would fail even faster than is prevalent.  Metagamers need the illusion of superiority if not the actual fact.

imagine your loved MMO with gold act as EXP.

This is why I have always opposed cash shops in MMOs. Once the idea gets into Player's heads that buying ingame stuff with real life Money is OK, then one of the next steps is the OP's idea.

Players either see what is wrong with this, or they don't. I miss the days when the ones that didn't get it simply moved along to another form of entertainment.

Bah. I am going to be sick. Make a hole.

In EQ2 you can buy levels with real cash level with collections. In fact you can buy all your combat arts through masters with station cash and spells too. You can go from level 1 to level 95 and never kill a monster.

 

Power level by trading station cash cards for plat and pay someone else to level yout.

 

if you want that kind of leveling it is there so you can play it your way. :)

think most like to have the several progression ways, but sure why not be able to go earn gold, then go pay a trainer of sorts, for spell upgrades/attribute points.

but then you would be able to buy gold with $´s and then skip the whole leveling/char progression game... obvious ; )   I aint competitive in this way, so wouldnt care if other people decided to ruin the game for themself though

In DDO they have several in game mechanics to have you gain xp faster than normal.

 

1.) They have pots you can buy from the DDO store where you get bonus xp for several hours, like 50% for 3 hours.

2.)  VIP/paid subscriber can open any quest on elite, its a harder difficulty, but gives you more experience than a normal quest.  After doing 5 elite quests, you get a streak where you earn 50% more xp than a normal quest, if its your first quest in and no one in the quest is above the level limit of the quest.  Also free to play players who TR'ed there characters twice can open quests for that character on Elite.

3.)  Stone of experience let people 8th to 15th go to 16th level.  So using the stone of xp let you jump levels from 8th to 16th just by using the stone.  They did this for newer players who wanted the enjoyment of the new expansion they had out that without the grind of leveling up, since the expansion was minimum of 16th level to get into the new lands.  Eventually stone of xp was removed from normal gameplay, but they add it back in the ddo store occasionally.

4)  If the above methods of getting xp isn't enough, they also offer lesser and greater tomes of xp that are attached one of your characters that lets you earn even more XP than normal.

5)  in game there is two items you can wear that let you get 5% more xp, together they give DM's Vision.  There are pots you can earn in the Cannith Challenges that lets you earn experience faster, but its probably faster to just run quests than run challenges for xp pots.  the cannith challenges are a useful place to get one of a kind items hard to get elsewhere.

Asheron's call had XP as a tradable.  Gaerlon's Swords were an example.  Then they had people joining in exp groups as people turned in olthoi tails.  As time passed there were other exp consumables you could acquire.

Isn't it a form of buy exp with real life money ?

You can buy everything in game if you have real money , RMT ready exist from early time of MMOs

 

Aren't Gold are same with EXP , you need to play game to get them.

Only diffrence between them are tradable and untradable.

 

And my question are if you mix 2 of them in 1 , what will turn out. A game with no exp and in game gold act as EXP

use gold to level up instead of EXP.

I want to know how you think gameplay will turn out if it happen.

I don't think you understand the OP. He's talking about buying levels iwth ingame resources, not real life money.

An example would be Asheron's Call, where you can turn in trophy items for XP. Players buy and sell them from each other in AC. Ex: http://asheron.wikia.com/wiki/Popular_Trophies

While the OP is suggesting gold directly, I prefer the AC style as there is more gameplay and interaction in the process.

I don't think you understand the OP. He's talking about buying levels iwth ingame resources, not real life money.

I thought so too until I encountered his followup post, just above yours ... although maybe I'm getting lost in the anology he's trying to make?

Game companies have to stop adding levels to their mmos. Character progression doesnt necessarily mean filling up an experience bar and climbing up a stair of numbers called levels, much less purchasing them.

Yeah, that one seemed to confuse things more than clarify them as he states "And gold type i talk about are [in game gold] , not real life money" but his examples in the same reply are about using real life money, not in game money.
