so,,one man is enough for a "project"?

i guess that would make it a LONG TERM one?

i doubt, their guy is as good as chris roberts,,look at star Citizen, for more

information about one man Space Projects

now, add the EAware factor, and their few, and vague hints to this subject

they use the sssp to keep some customers

if they told the truth,, a rough estimate of the timeline , and features of sssp, they would lose  another portion of their players

and by now,,they know their whales by name

Cheers,

BadOrb.

/fixed

LOTRO has player housing too, so will Wildstar and Dragons Prophet

So if it does get player housing you think a lot of sandbox MMO fans will flock to it ? That's something I'm sure EA and/or BioWare would be happy to hear. Mind you I think with wildstar being a sci-fi MMO rather like SWG , that one would be closer to the mark.

Cheers,

BadOrb.

Lets get one thing clear - Player Housing is not exclusive to sandbox MMOs or SWG. Any MMO can have it, even PSU did, and so will PSO2

If SWTOR got player housing, it would attract more players, either for the housing itself or to show that the game is not rigid / stuck in a rut going nowhere and left to rot, but instead opens up the thought of possibility more awesome things.

SWTOR is not getting it because it is "wall of crazy" but because they are not willing to put the effort/money into doing it

I do not see player housing like SWG being able to be put in SWTOR, but it can easily have what LOTRO or EQ2 has - instanced. EQ next may get player housing like SWG did.

They could have instanced player housing on a space station and be like LOTRO, or they could make some houses on planets instances for housing like EQ2, like you get for quests, where you all go to the same house with a green door, but it is unique to you. This would open up more credit sinks and CC usage. Even LOTRO uses the cash shop to unlock a house if you do not have enough in game currency. I am surprised EA has not jumped on it already.

The word "sandbox" was a poor choice by myself. Yeah indeed PSU and PSO2 had/has player housing. Still it might bring some people to SWTOR if they do do it. Will be a cash shop only affair in reality though. Yeah the instanced room could work in SWTOR. Mind you PSU's had a player shop attached by spending a few in-game credits. Ah the good old days. We are still watching you SEGA ( growls ).

Cheers,

BadOrb.

PSO 4 years , EQOA 4 months , PSU 7 years , SWTOR launch ongoing.

Theres super secret  kickstarter projects these days ,theres games which are not even in paper yet and people are ready to give millions of dollars to them,so why keep something like this in secret doesnt make any sense.

edit:if EA really had something in their pockets they would proudly tell that to everybody and milk their money.

The SSP is real, everytime someone ask about it, they said, ¨yes, we are working on it, is real¨, but we cant talk about it yet¨.

Funny that even though last time they where asked they said it was one persons project. Maybe read more or play the game ? O and yes it was about 6 months ago and the first time that anyone got a reply about it eva!!! yeah w/e bash swtor more with bs comments :).

Cheers,

BadOrb.

How is that a BS comment?  It's actually spot on.

I personally loved how Jeff Hickman stated how he played the SSSP and indicated how much fun it was, then said he can't talk about it, then .. nothing.

a lot of players would leave immediately , if they knew that SSSP was way out in a distant future,

or if it was cancelled

as long as the dream is alive, they can still get some more $$

You do realize that there is another option there right?  Not like the only option one individual has is to keep subscribing until something that they hope will come at a later date actually makes its way out.  Someone, like me maybe, can easily cancel their sub, never log back into the game until its about to come out, then resub.

i know,,and that would mean even lesser Money going in for swtor

so , how would that help the game? or the devs? or the IP?

Money - or its lack.

Every statement they make comes with a "not guaranteed, subject to change". Even 2.1 less than a week before it was due to launch.

That says to me that the game - currently - isn't bringing in a great deal of money. It is all hand to mouth and possibly even one project at a time.

We must assume that an SSSP model was worked up - maybe by 1 person. Funding it however - so many dollars and people for so many months.  It is on the back burner and the burner hasn't been lit.

Well, one thing is for sure, SSSP is already a missed opportunity, too little too late, because Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous will be a major stab in EA's back.

Looking at Bioware's track record, they won't be able to compete with space sim legends like Roberts and Braben, unless they hired Lawrence Holland and Totally Games to do the job, and  a 20+ million $ budget.

Except that both of those games are YEARS from release. Bioware has plenty of time to release a solid space expansion (if they so choose) and it would be very successful if done correctly. They also have many times the funding that either of the games you mentioned are likely to achieve.

We all assume that these games will live up to the hype they are getting. Just because somebody is a legend does not mean that the final product will be awesome. What if these games will disappoint?

And looking from perspective of games released in last few years....

It's even more probable as don't all games disappoint the hype? Not that I wish it. The more good games on market the better off we are. Competition is always good.

From other side... SWTOR brought so much disappointment for many  SW fans (not for me, I am obviously loving the game) that they do not have to worry about hype. If the SSSP will bring some cool things and something new and refreshing it will be a success.  Will it bring millions of fans? I do not know. Probably not, but it will definitely keep SWTOR population healthy.

Star Citizen hangar module will release soon, multiplayer dogfighting alpha in December 2013. Then some new module every 6 month until end of 2014 full release. Roberts has close to 10 million from backers plus 10 from investors.

Braben made 2.4 million fom Kickstarter.

Both know what they are doing, they don't have a bloated EA structure to feed, and their track record with space sims is legendary.

1$ for them equals what EA does with 100$

What EAware are doing most likely:

3 programmers on a budget, reusing assets from the rail shooter, some warzone instance with free roam mousemode pew-pew flight a la "Moonbreakers".

Ladies and Gentleman, there is your SSSP

Don't get me wrong Doc, I am very excited for both of the games you mentioned. I'm just saying it's a little early to declare victory at this point. I know people love to hate on SWTOR around here, but the game is now reasonably successful and it would be a lot more so if they did a space expansion correctly. IF the super secret space project exists (which I'm not sold on), it could really breathe some fresh life into this game. We'll just have to wait and see...

Believe me I was hungry for every snippet of info on the SSSP, until I realized they won't give out any concret info anyway, then came the Star Citizen and Elite KS campaigns, and I gave up on SWTOR, because

a) Cryengine and the amazing level of detail in Star Citizen

b) procedurally generated planets and a gigantic astronomically realistic universe like Elite Dangerous

How can BW possibly do anything worthwhile "space sim like" with Hero Engine, heavy instancing and the low-res look of the overall game? They can only fail, unless they pull some major revamp and magic engine upgrade out of nowhere, plus hire some actual talented game designers who know how to make a space sim great.

I'm sure EA has the answer: Cartel Store

really? show me , where theyre saying that

of course , the devs and the loyal fans are hoping, but devs saying THAT?

but, i guess two massive rounds of layoffs , and conversion to F2P is a success in YOUR perspective

the "quality vs. Money"  argument before launch?

"we will be using a sub system, since,  WE CAN OFFER  A QUALITY , THAT F2P CANT"

and when the new scifi mmos go live,,swtor will bleed more players

Theres only 3 or 4 on the Horizon,,im sure BW employees are feeling so safe and relaxed now

they prolly have to rely on very short term plans, to keep swtor afloat

and they have to be running out of emergency plans sooner or later

but theres one positive point for them:  TITAN was just reset to 2016

that means one competitor less

It's funny that they needed to implement this at all. The existing ground and space games are so pedestrian that they have to have this uber space project dangling out there like a prophecy for the dullard faithful:

And lo, in the tenth time span from the far edges of the lagverse

will cometh unto ye a void bereft of rails.

The faithful shall spendeth in the store, and sub

as ye practice forebearance of the blandness

Would have been better if they would have just made the base game more worthwhile.
