It's pretty bad from what I played (though admittedly that wasn't much).  I remember seeing this cutscene ingame and thinking I was playing an N64 game.

The model graphics might not be all that great, but the combat animations make up for it, for me anyway.

Graphics have never been a big deal to me in general though.

The graphics is not bad at all, the scenery is breathtaking if you turn on the max setting.

Yeah I understand that, and the combat animation does differ greatly from the cutscenes, no doubt about that.  In the end it wasn't for me, but I'm glad it's finally out so people can enjoy it.

Does anyone know if it's solo friendly? I don't plan on making this my main game, so I'll only be playing casually. Thus, probably won't be in active / high end guilds.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the graphics at all. I've liked what I have seen so far. I can't deny that some of the cut scenes could use some polishing though - the one Eir linked was pretty bad (the movement of the models, particularly.)

Any interesting overarching story to follow?

Are the quests interesting, i.e. more to do than kill x click y ?

Minigames?

Day/Night cycle?

Seamless world, or immersion breaking loading screens?

Any puzzles and thinking challenges?

Figured out what the deal was... I wasn't PvP flagged yet so I couldn't do 90% of the games content.

Also I hadn't even started my story quest yet so I was stuck running around doing lame side missions.

Once you start your story quest the game begins to expand a little more leading you to the first intance and you get plenty of exp to hit level 5 team skill which unlocks pvp stuff.

Basic rule of thumb for anyone that gets lost is do everything in the Novice Guide Book that can be found under the minimap.

1. Overarching story, yes. Interesting debateable.

2. Running the quests is not really the point of the game.

3. Lots of mini games for crafting, farming etc

4. Day/Night is I believe in a forthcoming patch for the Chinese server so eventually in the western version I guess.

5. I would say not really, but it depends on what you mean.

I agree, the cutscene animations are horrid.  However, like you pointed out,  you can see the difference between the mocap they use for fighting and the manual hand key animation (straight forward animation) with their cutscenes.  I think thats the issue of them using the same animation rig for both fighting and cutscenes.  In other words hardly any facial or finger movement, or any type of squash and stretch that you would see in cutscenes made with models and rigs specially designed for those purposes.

However, from one GW2 fan to another,  I tip my hat to you for being classy about the game not being for you.  To often we see people take the low road and bash games at every chance they get just becuase they don't like it.  Lord knows GW2 forums has seen its share of that.

Thanks, I'm usually happy for people when a game is released that they've been anticipating.  I say usually because even as I type this, there are people in other threads claiming that those who don't like AoW are "closed minded" and "spoiled".  I didn't even say the game was bad, just that I didn't find it fun.  And since it's F2P, I could always jump back and try it any time I want in the future.

Would also like to know this. Also how much of an advantage would a paying player have over a free player? Are the cash shops pay to win or just fluff? Wanna know before i delete other games to make room for new ones.

I good advantage for new players who paid $9. For a older established player, not nearly as much.

When I eat chocolate chip pie it just doesn't feel like chocolate chip cookies. The texture, the consistency, it's just not the same and this is disappointing.

sry to say but imo its a p2w. not only because of cash shops, but for the options you have as a paying player when offline. check them and you will see :)

Lots of way to get past the $9 a month VIP advantages

VIP people can continue to level (cultivate) a skill while offline. -- AFK your character somewhere safe instead of logging off

VIP people get 100% of their exp converted to cultivation -- Take conversion pills to speed it up, herbalists make them (make an herbalist alt)

VIP can set up offline stall -- Make an alt and set up a stall once per hour on a different client (if ur computer can handle it) you can run two/three clients at once with no problem, just open the game again

VIP get more unbound money with kidnapping -- unfortunately this is the hardest part to get past, you just have to be smart and make money with other ways I.E. sell things in the market even if it means items that u can farm and gather

Those are the only VIP priveledges I can list that I feel are even important to mention.

Yep, they want you to pay them for their work. Still you have the option of being a freeloader.

Doesn't P2W suggest that you get more and more traction off of each additional dollar you spend?  If anything, this game is P2P with a lite version for free players.

To call it P2W is just stupid.

Oh, and even VIPs have to create alts if they want to be fully self sufficient.

Nah only one char per acc, but you can make multiple accounts. They don't even ask for a confirmation email. I run shop alts even though I'm VIP because I can't hold all my items on my character so I have an account dedicated to selling items. The only money I've spent in the game was on VIP, and the extra money from Kidnapping is like 1% of the money Iv'e made. Most of the money I've made was selling items I have to other players, on my non VIP shop alt.

Man get over it, if you don't want to play the game then don't. But p2w is ONLY if you can't get to the same place as one person UNLESS you pay. I've spent over $1000 on Maplestory upgrading my gear :) and those items are cash shop only. This isn't p2w for me. Especially at $9/month lmao.

lol Nexon games are ridiculous, I only recently noticed how bad it was.  In comparison, I don't think AoW sounds that bad.

Played a ton of this game in Bete, and I mean a ton.  Not because it was a great game but because it has a lot of interesting things in it.

Here are some things about AOW that I think are true:

-This game is a PVP game.  You cannot avoid PVP.  You can try, you will be unsuccessful.  You will get ganked by players who are better than you, a lot.  You will usually not get ganked by a player lower in internal level (which is the color /con thing).

-You can solo in this game, BUT you will have to be good at PVP.  Being "evil" in this game is so much better than being "good".  The game mechanics seem to favor being evil, or shall I say being corrupt.

-There is a grind in this game and it is a HUGE grind.  You get EXP, that EXP turns into Cultivation points and those points go into one thing you are trying to level.  Team practice is the way to go.  Always TP, always always always.  You can buy things to enhance your EXP, you can sub for a month to get VIP EXP bonus stuff, you can even do in game events to up your EXP cultivation rate.  So it is about learning how to maximize your time, then doing that.

-Skill means everything.  Internal level means a lot, but if you stink at PVP (and I stink, lol) you will lose more often than win.  You cannot just /afk grind your way to max skill levels and be great at PVPing.  It is a lot more than that, because of the rock paper scissors combat thing as well as Flying skills (which are awesome).

-This is a player even game.  You either take part in the scripted PVP events (in any way you want) or you do your own events (raid a guild, stalk noobs, etc).  If you choose NOT to do those two things, don't play the game.  AOW revolves are PVP.

-There are cosmetic items you can buy in the cash shop.  Other than that, everything in the game can be attained be a F2P player.  The catch is that you will do everything much more sloooowly.  So if you know what you are doind and want to get a leg up on other players (gear wise or skill wise or guild wise) then sub.

-You will have more fun in this game if you play with friends.  Most people solo play MMOs in the west, that will greatly reduce your liking of this game.  Join a guild or get a steady group of friends and the game is a lot more fun (and more safe, lol).

-The translation of this game is horrible.  Beyond horrible.  You have to be patient.  You will spend a good two or three weeks figuring out what does what and how to do this and what the heck that spinning thing means.  This is not a "hey, the game is complex so tough" thing....it's a poor translation thing.  It is poorly written.  You will have big time trouble understanding even the basic concepts of this game.  Just play it, deal with it and it will come to you at some point.

-Lag will kill you and it is unavoidable.  Because of the massive twitch nature of PVP, lag could very well be tne death knell of this game.  I am not sure how or even if this can be fixed.  Twitch is so integral to combat, and lag is it's enemy.

-The company behind this game, Snail Game, is shady.  There is no other way to describe them.  They are a shady lot.  Be careful with your credit cards, in fact do not use them.  Use pre paid game cards at ALL times if you are buying anything.

-AOW is not a themepark game, but it is also not a sandbox game.  It lies somewhere in between.  There are elements of both sub-genres.

-The bottom line is that the players are the ones making the content here.  Guild raids, alliances or wars....etc.  If you like that server dramam stuff (and it can be a lot of fun) you might like this game.
