I believe Kickstarter is a good indicator of crowsourcing and the like becoming more and more viable, so I only see it as a good thing.

I don't really understand the worry about scams. If it's not your money, why do you care? If it is your money, you can use your judgment as to whether to pay or not. Nobody is forcing you. I see too much of a: "I don't want to pay, therefore nobody should".

Sure, it's a shaky platform, but it beats the current publisher/investory-controlled market, IMO. If gaming can move on to being funded mostly by players, we would get rid of a lot of dead weight.

this blew my mind. I don't know if im just tired but when I read the above, my mind went silly.

A. TheGame industry is already funded by players.

b. players already have a choice in what they want to play

c. if what a player wanted to play is not available, all likely hood it doesn't have the player base to support it.

d. a gamer is not forced to a buy a product.

I'm kind of baffled how the conversation became a seemingly weird vinfinitely loop where big companies release game after game and players keep buying them only to complain in the end that their is no games to play cause everything sucks.....

I played DCUO tonight, awesome game.

I play Age of Conan a lot, awesome game.

I play lotro a lot , again awesome game.

I bought all 3 games, from big time publishers/developers,  they don't suck...to me.

THe more we dive, the more people are jaded at EA, or DaoC or War. I don't know what else could create the infinity loop of some how as gamers we lost the power to direct the industry with our own pockets....

Look at free to play market, as players wqe said we had enough of getting screwed with a monthly fees and as players we moved the entire NA/ EU mmorpg industry into f2p, we have the power, i'm just curious why people beleive we need KS to correct the wrong that has been to the indsdustry.

When we get right down to it, the only people we have to blame, is ourselves.

Thats the part where people are going to disagree. They don't see themselves as part of the problem. WoW and people who buy and play games like WoW are the problem. People do not feel like they have a voice because the masses have a different preference in games. So they exclude themselves from being part of the problem. That might be true. I'm sure there are people out there who have not bought or played any of the newer (post WoW) MMORPGs that have been released. Really can't blame someone who has been playing EQ and only EQ since 1999 for the state of the genre.

That is really the only thing that KS is good for. It gives those people a voice. Since the AAA developers will not listen they have to support Indy games. That really is the only chance a niche game has of being developed these days.

I'v never bought, played WoW. I'm curious how many Cu KS supports have. I disagree, theres plenty of market shares outside of WoW for mmo's to survive. If players could stick to games , grasp the concept of the game and partake in the community as a avid supporter to that game, instead of detracting from the community , maybe developers would take more call to listen.

AAA games are AAA for a reason, and I can honestly say pvp wise, there is aplethra of AAA , AA games to play. But a lot of times like with AoC, a player will log in and say "is the server populated" , and instead of taking the inititive and being part of the growth, they expect the growth to be there when they log in.

I understand and respect your statemnet, but disagree with it.

My post plays out daily here on these forums. From the people that blame WoW for the way the industry is to the people in the CU forums that say KS is the best chance they have to for a game like CU to be developed. I don't really see how you can disagree.

You are right though AAA games are AAA for a reason. They are developed to appeal to the masses in order to make as much money as they can. The masses (in the eyes of most AAA developers) want a game that has a similar playstyle to WoW. They may be right. I'm sure they spend a lot of money trying to figure out what kind of game will make them the most money. It's not what I want but I may be in that niche catagory as well.

I also agree with you that there is a market for a game that is not anything like WoW. Right now that is a smaller, niche market but things can change. Maybe KS will be a begining for that change, maybe not. Until an MMO actually launches that had KS backing we will not know how things play out.

It's not just AOC that has that problem. Hell, I think VG would be a far better example of that. Here is a game with features that a lot of people say they want and yet no one plays it because it is a low population game. Its a low population game because people won't stay to increase its population. It is a never ending circle.

I don't care about if other people got scammed.

But at the same time, i see no reason not to call it out and discuss it. Scamming is always an interesting topic. To me, it is more like, i won't pay for any KS .. but hey if you do .. great .. you may fund something for me, and provide me with entertaining discussions right now.

I chose AoC cause it is pvp based, though they have pve servers. VG is more PVE. To make the cases that PVP exists out side of CU, and that ppeople really sshould try to rediscover some of the great games out their. I never play Xyson , has anyone else ? A lot of people forget about APB and Fallen Earth as well.

APB is ridiculouly fun if the player can grasp the controls and mechanics of the game. I'm reisntasll APb , since I have a new puter that can handle it. APB is so silly , and fun and it is almost all pvp
