I will also sign this.

What worries me a bit is when Mark Jacobs saids the game will be "focused solely on tri-realm combat".

I can understand that. In the end, though, the realm is going to be what we, as a community, make of it. There are pleanty of games with RP/PvP servers that have thriving rp communities. Honestly, I think some very engaging rp can be done by using the RvR system.

Really, the way PvE leveling is normally done makes little sense in all these war-torn worlds. What does collecting bear claws have to do with helping save the world from the brink of catastrophe? It's really just a means to an end, and I feel that participating in an all out war would lend itself far better to immersion then PvE centric games tend to.

i played on ALB Perc , Hib Guin , Alb nimue myself and if i did decide to buy this game if its made I dont think Ill ever play on a strict roleplay enforced server ever again after dealing with the headache of those servers in DAOC . While there was some truely awesome people on those servers I had plenty of friends getting name changes for the STUPIDEST reasons ever , not names like leetspeak or bigboobs or something along those lines. Names like mine i use Scourn , or others like deceiver for a infiltrator etc. Friends of mine would get their names changed to a bunch of stupid letters and not even names and then have to contact CS to try and get that fixed all because some group of RP people who were to high on their selves decided to report names. It got old fast , and some of the groups when grinding mobs would be plain out more vicious than a regular wow server these days to people gossiping about their version of rp. If CU enforces this based on some of the bias rules of roleplay that server will not be around long at all IMO, events is awesome , lose rp is awesome to , but having RP police like DAOC had is a VERY bad idea.

Good work raising awareness to those looking for a dedicated RP server for the game once it funds.  It's not for me, and I know that the RP servers back on DaOC were quite unique.  Ideally, I'd like to see an oppurtunity for those type of players as well.  Could be a good thing for a game that strives for community and pride.

Could a moderator sticky this by chance?  I believe it'll be an ongoing issue, and having up top will gather attention for the people that will find it appealing.

Well, if you feel that way then you certainly should not play on this server. It is a server dedicated to role players, and seeing names like Deciever is immersion breaking. If you are not going to abide by the naming rules of the server, then you should make your character on a different server. For those of us that support the heavily enforced rp servers (especially those of us that played DAoC), we are looking forward to that type of enforcement.

Still, I appreciate your comment.

Thank you for requesting that sticky, Fogg. We appreciate the support, even from those that are not interested in the type of server we are looking for.

I typically play on rp servers as well but not to rp. I rp light as standard but often I regret not going to pvp servers as I love pvp. My choice was always previously influenced by guildies but that has recently changed.

It isn't that I do not like to rp. In fact it is what I love most but ALL mmo's suck at it. All the mmo rp players are a shadow of the real thing (not refering to cosplay but to table top rpgs). I play mmos for what they are: a video game with limited truly free options for gameplay. I get some instant flashy adventure and very little more. Sitting around objects I can't move yammering with other toons who rarely reflect action with word isn't my idea of rp.

If I end up playing this game it will be for the community based tri-realm gameplay and little more. Social interaction is the mmo strong point but it never was rp. I stick to my usual weekely pnp rpg (currently a high level Rifts campaign with 22 years of back story through playing) for real adventure rp'ing. Nothing, and I truly mean nothing compairs to the freedom one has in a pnp rpg. Mmos and rpgs have become entirely different entities and I long since lost hope mmos could ever be as powerful a tool of imagination. I'm surprised I ever though otherwise as the second you add a picture, model or graphics of any kind to a rpg game you take away from imagination and not add to it. Full 3d video, sound and story outside of your control pretty much obliterates the foundations of a rpg entirely.

All I would want out of this game is the social warfare and being social isn't rp'ing which oddly seems to be what people think rp is now ... sitting chatting in a room hoping other players don't troll you. Rp'ing is total control over story, character and environment which only will ever reside in imagination and never within a video game forcing every visual upon you. I just learned to stop fulling myself thinking that rp matters in mmos.

Of course! Its such a shame so many developers neglect roleplayers when they're one of the few aspects of the game that really require much in the way of attention to hold over. As I think has been said, MJ seemed to be paying attention when the topic about a paid, enforced, server concept rolled up with is pretty promising.

On another note, has been set up as a bit of a seperate, more inclusive, sort of hub for roleplayers for the time being, at least until the official forums arrive and we can see what set up they have there. - A hub for roleplayers in Camelot Unchained!

Not sure how CU will play out, but RPers, and RP servers are often the strongest supporters of games and devs. I'll put a link for your enjin site on ours. :)

For me, DaoC was the only game I ever found that made roleplaying make sense. There was a reason for it. There was a reason for my character to be doing what she did and saying what she said.  Even non-roleplayers would happily play along, as the sense of realm pride and community made you feel part of that realm , with relics to fight for and keeps to defend.

The advantages and disadvantages of gaining or losing those keeps and relics was real. It made a difference. I was part of that realm and it was important.

Whilst I tried to roleplay in other games, I could never get that immersive feel back again.

So.. with promises of realm pride being a core principle, absolutely, I intend to be roleplaying in CU. My character is going to have a reason, a job, a purpose.  What she does is going to matter.

For the Realm! :)

To Tamanous: Okay, I understand that you don't like to rp in MMO's. I think Pen and Paper rp is fantastic too, but not everyone has that option for several reasons. No groups in the area, or not enough people with interest, or groups with interest that seem in capable of keeping a story going for an extended period of time. So many role players get their rp any way that they can.

Not all role play in MMO's revolve around sitting in a tavarn and drinking. Yes, it happens. Yes, some people think that is all that rp is. What I intend to do, being as this game is proported to be pure RvR with no PvE leveling, is using that aspect for rp. There are guilds that do that in other games with varying degrees of success, but that is in large part to the game itself and not the role players.

However, if you do not wish to rp then that is cool. No one says you have to. All we want is an rp server for rpers. The way this game is going to be set up there is RvR everywhere, so even if you choose to rolle a character on an rp server you will not be forced out of RvR. Anyone that wants to make any progress in this game is going to have to participate in RvR. I truely believe that the rp community in CU will be greatly different then it is in games like WoW.

To Adeptus: Thank you very much for that link. I will put it on the first page of this to help show MJ that there are enough people interested in rp that they've already made a site for it. I'm amazed by that myself, but I'll certainly be joining.

To The Consequent: Thank you for helping to support us. <3 We greatly appreciate it. No one knows what will happen, but it's clear that a lot of people have a lot of hope for CU.

To Ellya: That is fully what my husband and I intend to do when we begin to play the game. We want to make it clear that we have a reason, that we have a job, and we will incorporate it into the RvR. This game has huge potential for fantastic rp that really no other game aside from DAoC provided.

I remember a time when our guild held one of the keeps in the borders, and for  a straight week, our job was to keep guard on that keep.   It was tedious, but it was our job , and we did it in character.  We were grunts and we knew our place.

For some that would have been a huge waste of  precious game time, but for us it WAS the game.

I'll be looking to join a guild run along military lines in CU, with a commander, talented raid leaders, a rank structure, and grunts to do the tedious guard jobs.

I won't be looking for drama queens, divas or  dodgy romance storylines. Been there, done that :P

I realized I posted earlier, in favour, but the more I read, the more excited I get thinking about an RP enforced server.

My experiences on the RP enforced server on LOTRO were a lot of fun. I attended many a hobbit party, and we did singing, dancing, poetry, and of course pipe smoking! Also played a human from Rohan with a back tale that explained why she was out fighting, and meeting new people.

I was just thinking about how much fun it would be to RP a crafter, helping out with RvR, building, reinforcing. All these ideas going through my head already.

So yep, all for it. I hope it becomes reality. (Never played DAOC, but sounds like the RP there was pretty good.)

My point with rp within mmos is that for being an rpg game at their core they have evolved little since their creation. We still are forced to macro and use commands for emotes which is clunky and limited. We have few or no tools at all to create our own adventures although no story arcs will assist with this in CU ... you simply "do" as opposed to "follow". It is nearly impossible to be in full action with your character, chat in game, emote expressions all in real time in order to truly immerse into the situation at hand.

Mmos have taken out nearly every element of what makes rp from an rpg and have simply tried to make up for it instead of putting the power or rp back in our hands. I agree that rp is immersion within the game while playing the game. So many mmos have sucked so bad at this that people started "tavern rp" as the primary source of rp. I've grouped with hardcore rp guilds for raids but because raids require voice chat and require exact 100% performance there is no room to rp at all. The mmo makers try to make up for this by adding cut scenes but that isn't rp. It is in fact an rp killer as the power is taken entirely away from the players.

What I infer is that mmo developers should find ways to make rp a functional mechanic for gameplay just as meeting dps levels required for hard raids. In a game that has no raids and is driven entirely by player goals as CU will be it is a wonderful opportunity for CSE to add revolutionary new ways for rp to blend seamlessly into the mechanics of the game. Someone mentioned making a merc guild and this is only meaningful if the guild can actually function as real mercs. I believe CU can do that where other games this is totally meaningless. It's like a guild of rogues in other mmos ... ok but beyond concept it is meaningless as there is no function for a rogue outside of the trinity built groups. There is no reason to "hire" a rogue. CU can change this and change it far more still.

The end result is that if rp is a "choice" in an mmorpg yet is not required the game isn't an rpg to begin with. There has to be more meaningful interaction with the game than clicking powers and abilities. One couldn't even imagine a pnp rpg being played without the immense power of the spoken/written word having the primary effect on the game. This is entirely not the case in most mmos.

When it comes to the importance and relevancy of rp in mmos there needs to be some serious change implimented.

You most definitely have my support for a strictly enforced RP server. I don't think that its too much to ask for RPers to have just one place where they can play in the manner that they would like to play, by putting the RP back in mmoRPgs.

Well, we have the opportunity to influence that here. Make suggestions on what you think needs to be done on the kick starter page, make suggestions here. I'll expand my first post to incorporate things that we would like to see. If the backer support is strong enough, then we may be able to influce the direction of the game in a meaningful way that has not been done before.

I understand all of your points, and you raise some good ones. I think that CU will give opportunities for merc guild to be meaningful, at least if the guild leaders do this correctly. My hubby and I have some ideas on how to impliment this that I wont share at this point because they are still in development. There is, however, a reason that I am so involved in trying to get an rp dedicated server.

Please, help us with this goal. Instead of simply stating why rp doesn't work in MMORPGs, try to help up make a change in a positive directions for the genra.

Not sure I see the need for a separate RP server, I was in a hardcore Role Playing guild on Mordred (we never broke character, even between ourselves) and even took it to the point of having a special language we had to speak at all times.

Sure, some folks thought we were weird, (so we killed them ) but if you ever run into any old Mordred players you'll likely find they remember the Shadowclan. (gotta love FFA PVP servers)

But hey, if Mark wants to create one, go for it.

Arrogant, Condescending, Dismissive, Elitist, "Meany", you speak as if these are bad things?

Well, Mark creating one hinges on the backers. I asked if there would be a dedicated rp server and that is the answer he gave. Hence why I've started this thread, and the one on Reddit. We -need- backers for this. Sure, you had a good experiance on a non-rp server, and that's awesome. It's much easier, however, to find those fantastic experiances within and outside of your guild on a server full of like minded individuals.

Even if you have no intent on playing on said server, then please help support it for people that do wish to have one.

Turbine always did a great job enforcing RP rules on Landroval. When I played, I never even saw ooc chat in general chat and I never saw any gold spamming. They did an awesome job. I'm sure MJ and crew can do it as well, they did a great job with DAOC on our Roleplay servers Guinevere, Percival, Nimue.

What happens when you log off your characters????.....

I agree. I think that they will do just as wonderful a job on an rp server in this game as they did in DAoC. All we have to do is convince them to make the server!  If we all work together and get as many role players and non-roleplayers alike to support this as we can, then I'm sure Mark will make it for us!
