After i finish up my mesmer my next character I wanted to try leveling mostly in WvW and maybe throw in some crafting as well. I found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9KEzaRCSHA which gives some good tips. Curious if anyone here leveled any of their characters mostly in WvW and had any tips to add. :)
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg |

My tip is not to do it wizh your forst character: 1. You will suck until you get used to GW2 opposed to other MMOs 2. You will suck because downscaling makes your character much weaker than level 80ies 3. After youve got to 80 and play a bit of WvWvW you will understand thse things and be prepared to them :) |

Originally posted by Aerowyn Aye, was mor of a general tips :) Well, xp comes from taking camps/towers/keeps so you just run with the zerg and take stuff. thats all there really is to it if you want to level. Buld siege/reapair walls, those give some xp too. Tried it, its quite slow and you are quite weaker so have to stand back and shoot really ;P |

Oh, and Eternal Battlegrouns seems best bet for leveling because in my experience it has most action. Borderlands are usually more tactical and slower paced.

I tried doing it with a Thief, but lost interest fast. I couldn't stay in one environment that long, so i had to go back out to explore in the open world. lol. If you're determined to do it, then join a regular WvW group of friends. |

I've done a lot of leveling in WvW on and off.
Really the only thing I can say is you'll want to go ahead and get some skill points and utility slots opened up, else it's more hassle than it's worth.
If you travel around through the lower level areas and complete skill challenges and get up to about level 20, that should be sufficient for a good experience leveling in WvW. You'll have opened a few utility slots and you'll have enough skill points to be on your way to what you want to have. The rest you can get from the WvW skill challenges and leveling itself. If it turns out later on you're running low on skill points for some particular thing, you'll probably want to go back out and hit some more zones for more skill points.
Not really a big deal doing all that though.

A recommendation is to form a havoc group with friends. You're also going to want shared mobility. It's basically a karma train with 5 people except you focus on moving very quickly; avoid drawn out engagements. Flipping camps, slapping Yaks, sentries, knocking on keeps, clearing siege, ganking reinforcements, and flipping quaggan nodes. A lot of those things are typical of a karma train and have the added benefit of a fuckton of experience as well. if you're fast and efficient enough on a borderlands and outmanuever the enemy zerg/scouts, you can net yourself a level roughly every 30-35 minutes I think. Plus it's fun. However, you're not always gonna have a camp to flip or a sentry to kill that's in immediate reach so it can be fairly inconsistent. And also, for the love of god, please give accurate scouting information while you're doing so. If you back out of an engagement in vale because there's 20 from the enemy team attacking it, don't wait to let the rest of your team know that in a more effective manner than "inc". Edit: This may not be entirely plausible in Tier 1 against two super servers.

I mostly level in WvW, a few suggestions:
- don't go in at level 1, wait at least till level 20 or so, make sure you have some good utilities - fill gear slots (rings, amulet, neck) with whatever highest level possible cheap blues/greens you can get from the trader - focus on aoe and use weapons that provide combo fields and utility - don't try to solo / roam as low levels are quite easy to kill - focus on your own xp and survival, you don't want to die so play it safe by helping your team/zerg with combo fields while staying out of harm's way - use boosters - vary it up by doing some pve now and then, so EB doesn't start looking like some boring farming zone

Originally posted by Maephisto ...and on the flip side run out/dodge out of aoe areas immediately. The amount of kills I could rack on my ele was insane due to so many not paying attention and simply getting burned down. Too busy either not paying attention at all or thinking they could get "that one more kill" and then scurry off. I think the only other game I saw people so prone to standing in aoe kill zones was in Warhammer. 1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose. |

Aside from my main (mesmer) I've pretty much levelled the rest in WvW. If you can find an exp train you're golden, or at least tap into a zerg and take as much AoE as you can. Make sure you're in a party, it helps. Even if you plan on something completely different at 80, think "AoE" while levelling and you'll cruise along nicely.

It's not optimum exp but leveling through WvW is decent enough. Nice thing is you get to levelup your WvW rank too which doesn't hurt. Probably biggest thing is just to not die. It's a good time to toss on a ranged weapon and run with the zerg. Play in Eternal Battlegrounds, quite a bit better reward for playing there just due to flipping more towers/camps etc than in a borderland. Use food for the extra exp and get your tags on players.
Course there's no rule that says you have to hard grind WvW only. If you get bored, drop back to PVE for a bit and come back later |
