Hi everyone,
What Neverwinter is:
The Shallow:
The Good:
Of special note: The maps and the World
All in all an amazing great Action combat game. It’s not D&D rules, also a lot of people don’t like action combat either, but this game clearly says what it is (action combat) and it does it amazing well. It’s a wild mix of STO’s FPS mode and TERA. The story picks up at lvl20 and gets interesting. I’m just a little bit worried about the (cryptic) supplied content. It doesn’t seem like much, and having experienced the STO foundry its questionable if user generated instances can keep you for months involved. I personally look forward to the next beta and the release and will play it. When you say the combat is mostly about avoiding damage, is that something you actively do (similar to GW2 for example) or is that something that happens automatically due to gear stats? If anything, your review made me more curious about the game ;) |

It's a bit confusing, are you referring to the part about AC and D&D? If so, D&D was about avoiding damage through stats (including gear). Of course you could also avoiding damage by buffing / debuffing / counterspell-ing, skilling parry and activating it.

Would you say this game is a lobby game? Where the community is based in the city then you take missions/quests etc, to instances area?

About every review I've read from people who have -actually- tried the game are quite on the possitive side. And honestly? There is still tons of room for improvement, which is good news at this stage.
I get that NWO pisses off all the D&D nerds that see this game as another missed opportunity for a hardcore PnP game translated inot a mmo, but as it is, it will gather probably hundred times more the audience than it would otherwise. And these horrible people that make games need to make money to feed their children. The monsters. My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion. |

Good writeup - the world is certaintly a lot more open than I was expecting. I was expecting a lobby system where you go from town to dungeon only. They've got a few months to polish but generally what you see is what you get now. These beta weekends are usually the developers chance to get some marketing and PR traction going, these days they are generally the finished product with a few bits which need polishing. I'm not thrilled they're using the STO engine, going with such limited classes and seemingly making dungeons/foundry the "meat" of the game but we'll see, most reviews speak pretty decently. The only thing that concerns me is the industry is literally crying out for a hugely solid MMO to play so it's a bit like a starving vegetarian man seeing a McDonalds hamburger; he's gonna love every bite for a little while then kick himself later. |

Originally posted by Aerowyn You'll probably find quite a lot changed, but just more polish stuff as I mentioned. Difficulty and XP curves will be scaled, animations will be made smoother, hi-res stuff will come into the game making it a bit shinier, more endgame content will be added and we may even see a class or two at launch or shortly after. I just meant if people are expecting any radical changes or shifts in the game design, I wouldn't get my hopes up. |

Oww, i forgot to add a few Screenshots, but here they are. Pictures are taken at maximum settings and 2560x1440 resolution. (Though I'm not sure the 8x / 16x AA is working - but my friend said it should)

the fact he/she made lvl 25 on 2 characters in 12 hours gives the impression it will be another race to the end for end game content "i hope" they have the end game content in place, too many games were thrust into play with not so much to do, also sounds like the first 50 lvls will be little more then a speed bump to the end with litle content just a Rush and grind, i may be wrong, i do realize its all Beta review but i think i will be looking elswhere for a game
(was hopeing for D&D)

Nice write up, I agree with most of what you wrote, the only thing that I think you may be a bit off with is this quote: We all can agree that waiting for an 16 roll to actually hit 1 out of 15 times isn’t very compatible to ‘Action combat’. But that change in how combat works also removes any need of values like AC. In Neverwinter you still have AC in your character sheet and also on gear. However I have yet to see me or an enemy missing. (Doesn’t happen). Evidently it shows how much of an empty stat AC is when you return to the low level areas. You still get hit with every attack despite having the double AC.
I noticed a number of times with my rogue large writting on the screen during combat saying resisted in red. This could be for any number of things as combat is a bit fast and furious on the rogue but things like AC, deflection and defence could well be amongst them and may need some clarification from the Neverwinter team. |

Originally posted by Reeper thats what the foundry is all about..you create your own content and share it with others.. for me playing D&D was all about playing in other peoples imagination..nice this game gives us a way to do this and not just be limited to what the devs create I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. Originally posted by Reeper I found that leveling was a secondary concern for me. I was more interested in the content and fighting honestly. That's what surprised me the most was that I didn't realize how fast I was leveling, nor did I care. I was too concerned trying to kill that damn seer! lol |

Originally posted by jdnyc Huh...for some reason, I get a sense odd deja vu. I could have sworn these types of comments were common when GW2 was in beta. I for one am a bit concerned this game will be all hype and no substance. I believe the combat will be fun...at first but like all other games, the repetition will get old. Once the repetition gets old, people will start looking for more other avenues within the game to have fun. And I think that's where NWO might have a problem. The game, from what I hear is quite shallow in every aspect outside of combat (and to some, even combat is shallow). I don't even know if the Foundry will be enough. |
