So yet another instanced, ThemePark MMO. Haven't we got enough of these already?

Of the MMOs they have made I say NW looks the best and I will give it a try and I am sure I will have fun. Before I give them money I will wait to see how well they manage this game. Careful Cryptic we are watching. |

Originally posted by Wraithone Yeah, Cryptic and PWE, a killer combo... No doubt PWE love the NWN franchise, because it's a huge world with a rich tapestry of character types... which means they have a huge potential for monetizing content. And Cryptic must be hoping that this "Big IP" will be their ticket to riches, seeing as STO totally failed to deliver the numbers that one would expect from the Star Trek IP. Besides, NWN will be far easier to "adapt" to a standard MMO template, whereas Star Trek was never going to fit that model comfortably. |

This reads more like a prepared statement by Cryptic given to the author and told to put a nice gloss on it since she has played the game. Honestly I'm tired of reading these pre-release hype articles that the site has to release to maintain advertising dollar income. The whole article takes on a polite tone of if Cryptic did this , why didn't Cryptic , Cryptic promises to improve/expand and in general tries to take a real positive stance. Problem is this is Cryptic and their track record in CO and STO , frankkly stinks. The instancing is the same as CO and STO and will be used as heavily. The Server stability is based on the system currently used by STO . Guess what ? The same issues will persist. Same for the compaions , which are dumb as dirt. As for content look to the history of CO and STO to see how content will be approached. Expect bugs to be ignored or to linger for years. Conent will be introduced only if and when the game is profitible in a manner to allow it's production to begin, otherwise Cryptic has decided the Foundry will be the source of content. Expect another smashing success on par of CO and STO. I can hardly wait until the advertising money stops flowing and the real articles appear. Jeez |

I'm interested In this game now, for the last few years mmorgs have struggled at being a mmorg first while using instancing and becoming master of nothing. Potentially, here we gave a game that embraces the fact it's aim instance/lobby game and is freed from the mmorg shackles to go back to dungeon crawling roots. Fingers crossed.
rpg/mmorg history: Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW (9500 hrs on main mage)> oblivion > LOTR (480 Hunter) > Rift (230 hours mage) > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(350 elementalist) Now playing GW2/Diablo 3/Rift Waiting Archeage. |

Originally posted by Yamota i know many that love STO now since PW took over.. champions I never tried and don't know anyone who plays it so can't comment.. themeparks still have their place and many still love them and I'm happy to see ones that come out with some fresh ideas. And yes this looks like it will be a decent game from what i have seen and heard.. really the foundry is my big draw but overall it looks like a solid enough game for f2p. I spent thousands of hours creating games in the old RPG Maker series which had shit graphics but was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to using my creative skills to make quests/dungeons for my firends and others to enjoy. I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. Originally posted by Yamota Yes, for some people, this is one of those. I like STO, you don't. Who cares? You should apply your last question to the sandbox devs. How many failed sandbox attempts are we going to get before we ever even get one good one? Sanboxers don't have a lot of room to throw stones until they come up with some successful sandbox alternatives to themeparks. |

am i the only one that played pen and paper D&D where you would play for weeks on end armed with magic missile, stinking cloud and if you were lucky, a limited charge wand? why is everyone talking about some "severe lack" of skills/abilities in D&D? dont even get me started on races and classes. most of you have a different impression of D&D and are expecting way more than what it offers ![]() |

I think the game will live or die by the success of the foundry.
From my experiences, combat was both fun, smooth and addictive. However, many/most players are going to get hung up on the extremely focused experiences of each class. Considering its a DD game and a NWN DD game... players are going to expect hefty amounts of customization in terms of advancement. It's not there and there will be A LOT of complaints once the game launches.
I don't fault Cryptic for going the route the did. If anything, its the same route we saw with the console Baldurs Gate games (which were diablo-esque action rpgs). They will need to expand that class list and get some flavor in there (ranger or an archer anyone? druid?) I am kind of scratching my head as to why they went with "Guardian" Fighter as opposed to some form of "Paladin".
For players who are able to accept it for what it is, it is fun. If the grouping/teaming aspect is strong and the foundry delivers... I'll be a fairly happy camper for sure (though I really want them to expand that class list quickly). |

Originally posted by VooDoo_Papa Well when you compare it to any NWN game, BG, IWD, or even DDO where you had an array and diverse amount of spells to chose from and not a select few that will fit the playsytle. For those that play and loved 3.5e this game will not suite them and they will likely be sticking out in DDO for their main focus I'm waggering. This will have the usual MMOers coming hither at least till the next new shiney that releases. This game's future will be like TSW and DDO, your nitche crowd. |

The most honest opinion of a game I've seen on this site in awhile. In a world where every game is special, no game is. Keep the honesty coming.
