DOC is not the owner or original creator of WWIIOL.

 

He is how ever one of the original game programmers and designers.   If I recall it was GOPHER who ultimately lead the shop at CRS, and BLU was the other member.   When the game launched 12 years (+/- 6months) it had I think 6 programmers/designers.  

 

I know after about two years, half of the original staff had left CRS.   One of the largest setbacks was the main engine coder and designer left, which meant they had to start over with a new game engine.

That may be true but those are still the reasons why I finally unsubbed.


I only played one or two campaigns as allied(if that) so I'm sure it's easy to say "lol another biased axis player getting mad and leaving" but I stayed subscribed for years even when I didn't agree with the decisions or attitude of the company. I kept subscribed even when the periods of big battles and great teamwork went from fairly normal and expected to increasingly rare and sporadic because the game was that enjoyable when it was at it's best. It wasn't until events made it obvious that the company was no longer focusing on WW2online that I unsubbed.


I guess you're the moderator "silky" on the forums? Have they done anything with your FRU bunker proposal yet? Fixing the FRU should've been #1 on the priorities list because the introduction of the FRU angered tankers, and the "fix" of a 10-minute rebuild timer angered a lot more players, not mention slowing down an already slow game. During the last rat-chat a player even asked about FRUs and the CRS people were caught off-guard, as if they were unaware that there was an issue with the game's core spawning mechanic. Player-placed objects are a feature that CRS seemed to go to a lot of work to implement but that they just abandoned; we need more bunkers, tank defiliades, AA pits, but it seems that all of the dev hours recently went in to Rapid Assault.


Perhaps there's enough goodwill still left in the community to pull them out of their current problems, but if it's there it's not coming from me.

What happened that this area suddenly got active with tons of people posting/fighting?

Game is popular or community is quite vocal?

CRS is spending advertising dollars on this site and the subscribers flooded in to give a positive spin to the game. Otherwise, this forum would still be the ghost town it's been for years.

Doc and Maypole (CEO) go back to 'War Birds', a game by Ientertainment/Interactive Magic predating WW2online so doc was around when the game was started up as well as a number of ex employees (Gophur might be as well).  Don't know about if doc owns any amount of Playnet/CRS

Before the advertising push I think most didn't know there were active, non moderated ww2online forum. Most other forums for the game is squad forums which normally are a closed shop and have only 8 or so active members so an active forum like this draws lots of people from past and present

The game has been dying a slow death for years and many of us who have been banned for our vocal crusades against the developers ideas over the years, along with many other former players as you can see, finally have a forum to talk about the game that isnt heavily censored. 

By all means please go try the game for free and tell us what you think.  1 out of every 500 people who try the game do stay for a month or so, please do give us your fresh perogitive on the game if you do decide to try it

Game summary: basically cod with 1995 graphics for 17.99 a month that has barely 200 players on the server during its peak :) You will notice the game has a lot more to offer but you wont get a chance to see it because the developers never figured it out

 

And I dont visit in awhile and the loyal haters have let more fanboi garbage in here ...

axis, depot, this is uneceptable :) You had pete all under control and now this mess

Had I known cethemute and silecthedickbag were here causing trouble, I would of cum sooner :) They hate waiting for their treats

You guys do realize who stug is right? Just look at posting history and maybe you will figure it out.

And play for free won't fix a broken outdated game such as this, close the doors and move on.

Well, it's not that hard to keep a game up and running when you're an independent company who's only paying about three people salary as well as server upkeep. So as long as there are enthusiasts buying builder accounts, subscribing to multiple accounts, or funding pledge drives this game will stay afloat. 

 

Sure, this game might not be "dead" but it most certainly is in a vegetative state. The active playerbase could probably be counted in the low tripple digits and there's next to no development support for this game - be it present or future.

Oh I'm sure the game will still be around a year from now and maybe even 5 years from now.  Hell, let's go in for another 10.   Meridian 59  launched in the mid 90's and it's still  up and running to this day.    I looked through all of the games hosted here on MMORPG and I swear I haven't heard of any of them with the exception of the triple-A tittles from the big players.   Most of them are probably like WW2OL - tiny companies with skeletal staffs maintaining a game that caters to a very small niche of the gaming market. 

 

 

Maypol, Doc, Killer, Gophur, Bloo, will milk this thing for as long as they can even if it means shutting down the office and running the servers out Doc's bedroom on a residential Comcast connection.    I'm certain they still haven't recouped their original investment after all these years but with no programmers and artists to pay they now get to pocket more money for themselves.    To keep that income steady they have to keep doing what they've always done; allude to big improvements coming to the game (the carrot)  but remind everyone of the consequences if they don't get enough subscribers (the stick).

2) Bugged 1.35 - Agree, but not enough to warrant a rage quit.
3) Lack of coders- So you unsubbed because of a internal CRS employment issue? lol, ok.
4) Player view limit- Not entirly sure what you mean.
5) Random CTDs- it's fixable with 4gb patch. Haven't had a CTD since.
6) Lack of players- 1 map axis have underpop and your raging?
7) DoC- Lame

Have your reasons man, not taking it away . I just feel that it's an excuse after excuse for most. If I ever unsub or rage quit. It will be for something of substance or a good reason, not because CRS doesn't have a coder lulz

And you still don't get it. Many smaller issues added together creates a major issue.

4) Player view limit- Not entirly sure what you mean.
5) Random CTDs- it's fixable with 4gb patch. Haven't had a CTD since.
6) Lack of players- 1 map axis have underpop and your raging?
7) DoC- Lame

Have your reasons man, not taking it away . I just feel that it's an excuse after excuse for most. If I ever unsub or rage quit. It will be for something of substance or a good reason, not because CRS doesn't have a coder lulz

Isn't an MMO with no coder an MMO with no prospect of bug fixes or improvement? Seems to be a reasonable reason not to invest your time in its future.

In an immersive MMO you invest your time into it, developing characters and skills, you suspend reality to enter that world. If you believe the future is not there then it is perfectly reasonable to choose to stop investing your time as the spell of the virtual world is broken, others might play more whilst it still exists. Both approaches are justifiable.

As for wwiiol it's great people are talking about it. Personally, I read the points above and think hmmm...everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

However, on my death bed I won't be thinking "Darn it! If only I had hated a computer game more....."

I know right, what kind of an excuse is it to stop paying $18 a month over not having a coder lol. Coders don't develop games, artists and producers do. KFS1 was a waste of space anyway. What did he do? Server coding?!? That isn't important in developing an online game. I agree with you ce
