Thanks in advance to AoW players for helping out!

  1. What's the development status of the game?  Are they patching regularly and contining to improve things such as localization?
  2. Is there any benefit to buying the game during beta, or should I stick with the free beta?
  3. Will they be wiping characters and progress again before release?
  4. As a new player, what do you recommend I concentrate on for the first couple weeks?
  5. Do any of you get the impression this is a game you could play for a good long while, such as longer than six months to a year? 
Any other advice you can give will be very helpful.  I know I can figure it out on my own, but I'd rather hear from some of the players here who have been rocking the game for a while.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

Welcome to the game! I hope you enjoy AoW!

1) this question someone else can answer better... they did have a patch * ( servers came down for a bit ) last night havent read the notes on what it was.

2)Buy the deluxe package gets you 2 months VIP this alone is worth it ( vip has some nice perks $9 or $10 a month) plus a few other items that are handy.

3) There is no plan but it is a beta so you never know. ( I dont think there will be one )

4) Learn how to make unbound silver ( 2 types of currency bound and unbound ). Bound is basically useless ( really only for gaining the unbound).  Unbound is gained either by kidnapping ( easiest ) amount of silver is based of how long the kidnapped player has been log off.  crafting and gathering then selling on the market or bounties, and buying directly through gold silver exchange with snail

5) You never know but I think so, it feels like the mmo I have been looking for

1. The game is still in Beta phase, aspects of the game are being updated and released, such as the 2nd school internal release, and there is maintenance every now and then.

2. I believe the benefit would be you get 15 gold, and a welcome pack which contains a mount and other freebies.

3. No character wipes 

4. I recommend that you concentrate on levelling up your internal school skill to 20, then levelling your skill set you like to play with most to level 5, starting with your rage consuming skills first. Try and join and guild asap, or create your own, then you can press N in game and look for things that might interest you, such as school spying, guild escorts, script stealing events ect. You can also choose a manufacturing life skill, a culture life skill and all the gathering skills and start crafting. Remember to do team practice once a day, your crafting mini game once a day and constantly fill up your exp pool which is done by spying or guild escorts (most effective ways I have found).

5. You will find yourself playing this game for a while, it is designed for longevity in the fact that you level up your skills overtime like with EVE online. Whether or not it interests you is a different story.

If you love to PVP and want to learn, duel as much as possible, it is the best way to learn. Read up on your chosen school skills as much as possible to found out the best way to maximize you ability. Kidnap to earn some silver if you like being bad, don't burn bridges with too many guilds or you'll find yourself being excluded from team practice and instances. Most of all have fun!

After some feedback from players, I decided to try the game out for myself. I made a few characters to check if the starting areas would be different and to decide which storyline to choose from (you can only have 1 characters so I had to delete them each time).

So then I decided to play for real. Found out the hard way that they got a "name already in use bug". I reported it to them and they said it was a well known issue and they are "investigating it". It has been over a month ago now. Still no ETA on when they will have it fixed, if ever. All the names I wanted to use are now taken...by me.

Stuff like this is my main worry about the game. I may be missing it somwhere, but I haven't see much information about the development roadmap of the game or any other information that indicates what will be fixed for launch.  Localization, as others have pointed out, is sometimes very bad to the point of confusion, and I'm no dolt.  These are the kinds of things that will make the game appear cheap to a Western audience.

I also had a problem where I upgraded my beta account to paid last night, and after I made the purchase, the system broke down communicating between the billing and snail games (got a web app error).  As of now, I have  receipt for my upgrade, but my account was not upgraded.

I'm getting on support with them now, and we'll see how they do resolving it.  I'll report back here with my experience.

Follow-up on my beta account upgrade problem:

I got a GM in game and told them the issue. (I had purchased the upgrade, but it was not applied to my account). 

Apparently there is a problem with people who use the MMORPG.com beta keys and then pay to upgrade.  However, they said they will handle fixing my account, but that I won't see it fixed until tomorrow.  I'll post another follow-up here.

EDIT:  received an email from them with my support ticket info...  glad to see that!  They are using ZenDesk, which is a top notch trouble ticketing system (I use it for my clients).  You can log in and check on your ticket as well as post additional comments and information.

I got that WebApp error when I bought the game too, this was before the MMORPG.com keys. There is apparently a key when you log into your account on the web and you have to apply it to your account. It's a ridiculous system and because my free time was up, I was out of game for days before I got help and was able to realize this.

Go here, http://www.ageofwushu.com/purchase/deluxe/ select account, take that key and enter it into activation on the previous screen.

Former xFire user... I only wanted a game tracker and messenger, not a screenshot taker, video recording, broadcasting piece of bloatware.

I tried that.  It didn't help my particular problem.  Thanks for replying though.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

I can tolerate beta-bugs and glitches, as long as I know they are taking care of them.  

We have some idea of the future patches as far as game mechanics go because of the chinese version, it is, for the most part, ahead of the US version. There are some differences already between the two but we can assume some of the advanced systems will filter in, like they recently did with the tier 2 internals.

As far as localization goes we only really have snail's forum statements and the interview massively did with the CEO where he said language and localization was something they are working on and we should see an improvement in those when the next stage of beta opens.

Is there any information on the next stage of beta published?  I noticed ArchAge has stages too (CBT1, CBT2, etc). This must be an Asian developer thing, because we don't seem to see beta presented that way here in the West much.

We are in Beta Test #2 which began on December 20th. They extended the ending of this period to indefinite or to be announced. There was a maintenance and a patch the other night that brought the client up to .024 . Pyre (Snail Games USA Community Moderator on the Official forums said this - "

Based on your feedback and data we have collected from the second closed beta, the decision was made to revise the official launch time to Spring 2013. This will allow us to better address community feedback and continue to update and improve the game. 

The current closed beta will remain active up to official launch, and no progress will be wiped.

When an official launch date is finalized, we will share that information with all of you. Thank you for your continued support and patience while we work to improve Age of Wushu."

I just wanted to report back here and say that AoW customer service took care of my account problem and had me all fixed the very next day as promised.  I was very happy to see how well they handled my issue, and I love that they are using ZenDesk for touble ticketing.
