The best answer will always be a subscription to the game world.
That doesn't mean alot, just depending on how featured each game is. (Just like a cable channel). Some games might charge $2.99/month, while other games $9.99/month. Leaving the premium market for the full-featured adult games @ $15 ~ $30/month.
Now, if games implamented a political side (ala Vanguard), they could allow cash shops for Bravado and Majesty.

GW2 system is just simply brilliant! I had my doubts and loudly voiced sceptisism, but they truly proved my fears to be wrong! Currently playing: FTB Ultimate Waiting for: Wildstar, ArcheAge, Class4. Dead and Buried: GW2, SWTOR, Darkfall, AO, AC2, Vanguard, CoH/V, EnB, EVE, Neocron, FE, EQ, EQ2, DAoC, FFXI, SWG, WoW, and billions of eastern junks! |

It's an interesting question to pose if we were directly talking to Zenimax. Ultimately we're looking at a crowd that is not used to monthly payments (Elder Scrolls) versus a crowd that has "been there, done that" and ultimately looking for new payment models (such as box payment and cash shop) among other things. To be the most financially successful? I'd have to go with a Box Price with a cash shop and optional subscription for those who want a subscription only server (that can also transfer to other servers to play with friends and back at will). Though since they have a Mega server I don't know how that would work. Personally I won't play the game past the first month if there's a subscription as I already have like five games. In addition, my girlfriend is expressing interest in playing new online games, so I'll probably be paying for her monthly as well soon enough. Useless question is useless imo. Doesn't matter what payment model they pick, a crap ton of people will play/buy/subscribe this game.
But on another thing, anyone else keep thinking of Ether Saga Online when they see ESO?

F2P games are overflowing of hackers. Why? Because you can keep on making accounts after bans and continue hacking. There is no mitigating factor that would influence them to stop hacking, other than game death or something like that. P2P systems require an account to have paid the monthly fee. Thus, when your account is banned for hacking (unless you are extremely rich) you would have to purchase another subscription. Problem solved. B2P is somewhere in-between, but closer to P2P in terms of reduced hacking. However, B2P isn't a reliable source of income in the long term so a cash shop will emerge, or they will introduce "gold status" supscription types that put restrictions on free players and generally piss everyone off.
With all-around P2P you don't have to worry about any of these problems. |

Considering that we have entered the age of "F2P", I'm surprised how many voted for the sub model. Fascinating. Anywho, I personally won't be touching this title unless it is subscription based. Might as well just go B2P. No point in making it P2P since it would just become F2P in a year anyway and save themselves the trouble.

I would play TESO if it is only B2P. There are more games to play beside TESO like Archeage, Wildstar, Blade & Soul and Black Desert.
Pardon my English as it is not my 1st language :) |

I can only see it being P2P. To say any different would be delusion. It's budget and model pretty much dictated what it would be. Might go F2P if things go south and it's future looks dicey but that would be far after release. |

Originally posted by xmenty And B&S, ArcheAge are P2P in Korea. And Wildstar might also be P2P, we don't know yet. TESO will do better financially with 500k players playing subs than 3 million players who buy the box. |

Anything besides a subscription based $15 a month would surprise me.
People will impulse by this game and atleast subscribe for a couple months out of hype. That is a huge win if $500,000 donate 30-45 dollars atleast to Zenimax.
The thing is you can't let the game get to such utter garbage like SWTOR that no one actually cares when it turns free to play. But if the game isnt living up to the hype, then change it to free to play BEFORE its at world-wide hated.
I also dont mind League's system. I dislike systems where it's free to play but really you need to pay to win. I've never spent a dime on League and don't feel like it's limited my experience at all, as I'm a Gold level ranked player who can get better. |

Subscription with the one qualifier that the game have a suitably fast pace of quality additions, fixes and mini-expansions with first rate customer support both in and out of game. People will generally pay if they feel they are getting quality for their money - and a good profit/re-investment balance from a subscription revenue stream can really make a game fizz along nicely and helps population retention if the game is good enough.

If you think that Zenimax has not decided on a pay model... you are partialy right! It was probably the first thing that made them make an MMO (cash-in on the IP with a P2P model because of WoW) This game has been on the works FAR longer that mentioned, which is already 6 years. However, the fate of recently released MMOs (especially SWTOR) and the speed at which the market changed probably made them think again, since their business plan was based on the era when a few subscription games ruled the market. Now they are probaly on the second tier of compromise-making, i.e. how to release the game in a new market while trying to appease the investors that expected profits based on the older models. (first tier of compromising was alla bout updating as much of the game as possible, like graphics, due to long development cycle that left them behind compared to competitors) |

Anything with no cash shop.
I rather P2P, like WoW, but B2P would be a good option too. |
