It's that same attitude of 'our players are stupid so if we just lie to them they'll never know' that made me give up on them after the initial Ascended Armor debacle.

Where in that did they even say that what blog were you reading?

They clearly stated that there will be no more gear between ascended and legandary.

(incase of confusion I am siding with you Rayzer235)

"in 2013" :/

Hey he said it's not "gear", that leaves the option to add mega infused super upgrade slot items in the new elite fractal levels ....for...existing gear.

:D

It is a blog about 2013.

And im fairly sure that "new tier" is tied to level cap increase.

Anyway, thats all i wanted to hear anyway, im satisfied for a year...if they hold on to that.

I dont care about fractals so they may do infusion grind however they like ;P

I seriously don't care if they add more tiers of gear as long as they can be achieved by pooling my efforts among the various activities. It's actually something Colin stated in the linked article.

Notice how games that try to break the WoW clone mold start out okay but then slowly get enough criticism to make them eventually patch towards becoming more clone like.  So many of these changes appear that way to me.

I'll be most interested in the spvp changes.  As it is now, the thought of pvping for cosmetics is just not fun to me.  Ya, it's equal for everyone, but without some impactful rewards, it lacks any life to me.

I think that you can be sure of one thing: that one area that wont have "impactful rewards" is sPvP/tPvP.

You lot actually trust Colin? The same guy who outright fooled us all in Manifesto?

I honestly dont get why they havent gone more into new PvP modes, rather than stickin with capture the flag. They had nice pvp options in gw1, why not copy it

But if you are good, why do you need better gear? That is the vision of Anet by making everyone equal. Perhaps there should be other types of advancement, rather than improving gear stats. It makes sense, you get better over time, why do you need better gear - it creates an even larger gap between the newbies and longtimers (which isnt competitive). Different story in PvE and WvW though, which is fine.

It's not ok. In PvE there will be the case of "link achievments+gear X required or KICK!" and in WvW there will be "5 Man vs 50+ people". For the first, just look at all those PvE Themeparks. For the second, look what happened to Warhammer Online when they added DF/WF gear.

But, Colin can only think so narrowly and I guess you lot still playing get the privilege of growing accustomed to the ever rising gear stats. Certainly not me tho(there are better games out there)...

Looks like more of the same with no more gear in between ascended and legendary, but the possibility of more gear grind later on that will be after legendary. Nothing in the article to make someone come back for, really.

What happens when you log off your characters????.....

i really hope they take attention to WxWxW (bane culling forever), it really needs to be boosted, PvE haves no interes for me at all , its boring as in other games.

They have stated that Legendary will be the final tier, the greatest time-sink items to acquire, so don't expect anything beyond that. The idea was to have Exotic then Legendary, but they made the time gaps too great. Exotics can be crafted, drop of mobs, can be bought with karma, etc. and Legendaries take considerable effort and time. Hence ascended gear was added to fill the time gaps... it'll take longer than the effectively zero time exotics yet not be near the time sink of legendaries. From there they're going with lateral progression within each tier.

To make ascendeds "worth" more effort they've been given a small stat boost over exotics (at least the current rings and backpieces show this). To match, as equivalent legendary gear is introduced it'll match ascended in stats to prevent a power creep.

If anything I expect them to patch in new Legendary weapon skins as well as Legandary armor and ascended armor and weapons before they do anything as big as adding a new gear tier. I think it's got at least 5 good solid years with the current run of tiers. Perhaps 3-4 expansions later people will begin to beg for more advancment, but as for now I don't see them doing this.

Well, to me the DEV interview was a good listen in that it sounds like the team understands where they need to fix things up and improve on the play experience for the people that are sticking with the game. Sure, I’d love to have heard more substantive details. In particular, I wonder exactly what they are planning to bring players back into the mid level zones from the high end regions. While I am looking forward to an expansion pack (where I figure there will be some attention to drawing old players back) it sounds like they know what they are doing in the mean time.

There is a power creep when power is added. Regardless of how minor it may look like. GW2 already got 8 equipment tiers. How many tiers does an rpg need to have character progression? As a designer I'd say 1. All weapons in a game should be valuable but distinguish themselves to promote a playstyle and should be harder to got if you want specific effects (both visually and on activation). Right now, everything below yellow is crap, yellow is used to salvage ectos, exotics are best-in-slot until they are demoted to the new yellows.

ANet doesn't add to character progression by inflating equipment tiers.

This Colin Johanson guy must have gone through EXTENSIVE spinning classes in college, and i'm not talking about excercise.

I can't help but laugh whenever i read the articles, especially after partially buying into it pre GW2 release and despite ALL my misgivings ending up buying the game.  All this stuff they talked about being so great and so awesome was in fact not.  Dynamic events? Not dynamic even in the slightest.

Maybe it was because i came from Rift, where they did exactly the same type of stuff and had been for a long time.  Yes, it was limited to "Rifts" but GW2's dynamic quests were just standard issue branching events.  Thats it.

The most insulting part was the "open world raid content" or whatever they hell the called it back then.  Literally 3-4 stages of 50-100 people gather in one spot, hit the mob with the same 1 or 2 abilities until the next stage goes.  Oh, i forgot the occasional "everyone gets knocked back 100 meters and has to run back to the spot" component.

Now i'm sitting here reading this article and they think throwing a bunch of buzz words like dynamic, and open world before normal MMO tenets like quests, or loot, etc, will somehow excite the player base?

I particularly love him bringing up that they've sold 3 million copies of the game.  Wow, because i'd be willing to bet at most 10% of that are still playing it regularly.  Hell, Age of Conan had over 700k pre order and sold well over a million copies in the first month.  Box sales are not indicative of success in an MMO, even one which is "B2P".  Cus lets be honest, the argument that people will cyclically drift in and out of the game because it doesnt have a sub fee only has merit if the game doesn't suck.

Ok so the world was complete static?

Ok gotcha.

Fixing what is already in game would be better than introducing new content!

Every time I log in, more and more quests are broken, even at leaste one that has a champion with a half missing horde of followers (you can't kill what is not in the game, so can not kill the champion)!
