Yeah, Hidden Fortress is great to watch. The Artoo and Threepio charcters are introduced from the get go. And of course, Vadder's helmet is a modified Samuri helmet, etc,, etc. You could speculate that Star Wars did quite a bit better at the box office, being set in space and all. |

Woah I'm not dissing the original film. Lucas himself says hidden fortress was a big influence.

Hey guess what you can compare space combat in two Star Wars MMOs and SWG had space done way better than SWTOR. Don 't make excuses for designing and implentmenting space as a mini-game when it was done much better with older tech.

Originally posted by NeoCroX997 Still, that space JTL thingy felt too limited. it wasn't needed, you could always take the shuttle. What i missed was open space, too few ships and not enough modifications......this goes especially for swtor. + I dont like instant travel, press a button and after 1s you are at destination to land on the planet again.....
I miss space mining, hauling passengers, doing cargo missions, things I like in EVE atm. It wasn't 'sandboxy' and 'starwarsy' enough. "going into arguments with idiots is a lost cause, it requires you to stoop down to their level and you can't win" |

NGE killed SWG. Get over it like the rest of us did in 2005. |

What I don't get is everyone saying this shouldn't have been SWG2. SWG was a good game in it's own right, better in the beginning but it was respected MMO. I personally didn't play past the trial (was stuck in my WoW phase) but I had dedicated friends that sing it's praise. In the end I would've rathered they copied SWG's model instead of WoW's. Space combat is implied and should've been in the game before end game raids and Ilum (although I wish the PvP was done better). |

I didn't like the space game at all, usually only played a few missions to get alts through some of the boring first levels faster. That said, I know people who played it constantly and parts for space combat were actually one of the (few) things that sold well on my cybertech. Very surprising, but yeah... |

They didn't keep the SWG space combat system because SWToR isn't SWG2. It's a completely different game. Join the League For Gamers. |

Originally posted by ktanner3 Shall we give them a chance at Space adventure? I mean, they could try to fix Ilum, but EA already tried that and it flopped because of design incompetence / game archetecture flaws (engine). If EA develops a new engine for something it may as well be for Space, just for fair-ups? If space fails, I'll side with you that they should try to fix Ilum.
If Ilum fails again, then back to Space? /agreed

This game is fubar. It's a great addition to the KOTOR series, fairly decent MMO and made by a company with atrocious customer support. Our only hopes is Disney will fair better in picking a studio worthy of translating this IP into an online game with a persistant world.

I will hope for a decent space game in one hand....
I will crap in my other hand.....
I wonder which will get filled first?
Bioware isn't going to implement a fully functional space game...they might add onto the garbage they threw together though..
If you think Bioware is going to implement a space game anything remotely similar to what was in SWG then please hold your breth and don't release till it happens. |

Originally posted by lizardbones SWTOR is meant to be a MMO, not a single player game, which SWTORs space combat system is. STO is not the same as SWG, but it managed to provide a better MULTIPLAYER space game in a MMO than SWTOR. The game also did not take so long to make, or cost as much. SWG was just too awesome, you could have more than yourself piloting the ship, and have other players manning your guns. SWGs JTL was the ultimate online space game, and no other game or MMO does this at all, not even STO or EVE I suppose SWTOR space game is better than there being none, and just cutscenes instead, although that could have been pretty awesome actually, considering the gameplay is on rails and you do not have full control. The space game in SWTOR would have been better if they added in more DIFFERENT missions, instead of Republic AND Empire having the same missions, and then as you get further, you get the same missions AGAIN, but harder, when they should have done DIFFERENT AND HARDER missions. It was just lazy what was done, and players get tired of it a lot lot quicker.

They would have been better off with no space combat than the POS they shipped with. They would have been 100x better off by gutting their budget on voiceovers and devoting it to massive 3D space combat before launch. You know, something to differentiate them from WOW and its clones.
I would have bought SWG if it shipped with Tie Fighter style space combat as well. Star Wars MMOs without awesome space combat are doomed to fail. |
