I think studies have shown it to be somewhere between early twenties and late forties - curious to see if this thread confirms it.

This thread can't really verify anything about typical MMOers age, because people who visit MMORPG.com forums aren't a representative sample of MMO players.

There was a nice graphic I was looking at the other day that broke down the demographics nicely (using real data from the industry), but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

For my game the vast majority are between 18 and 25.

I would estimate an average physical age in the mid-30s, but so many of them act like they're 12 it's so hard to really be accurate.

Originally posted by Vrika I would disagree with this statement. Any mmo player is free to come here and speak their minds, but just like with political elections there are a large number of people that for whatever reason choose not to express themselves. The reasons vary, but the ones who choose to speak up and be heard, are no less representative: they just happen to be more vocal.
So many times I have asked a question at a conference, and I see people around the room nodding or they will come up to me after and say, I was wondering the same thing. So many people choose not to speak, but that is not to say their views are any different.
I would also venture that there are quite a few people here that are extremely knowledgeable about the the historical and technical aspects of gaming. I think in some ways we are more knowledgable or in tuned as a whole.
One last thought. The first time I heard 'forums don't matter' was from John Smedley. He proclaimed that from the top of a hill as people fled his game. Forums do matter and some devs understand the power of it. Others deny it, fearing it's another front they'd rather not participate in because they have enough on their plate or are closed off to other's opinions. But if forums didn't matter, you wouldn't have advertisers for mmos on these pages, and you wouldn't have devs referencing forum activity. |

I think most 30+ers hang on the forums, the kids play the game.

Interesting dip in the 36-40 range... I blame it on Marilyn Manson.

Nitth: What makes you so sure its a simple fix? filmoret: Because most of them are. Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding. |

Anyway, the poll will answer the age of people 1. visiting MMORPG.com 2. chosing to answer the poll. 3. probably interested and likely playing MMO´s 4. honest about their age. We all know women stop aging at 29 which is why we have to compensate the result by Result = Agerage * SQR(Pi). Its just an indicator, no more than that....
