Hey, sorry if this has been asked, or answered before, I've been looking around a bit and haven't seen an answer.  Just curious if it's been said if there will be new servers with no transfers for new characters when ARR is released?

I have a few lower levels from version 1.0,  but my old PC wouldnt run it very well which compounded the other various problems with it at launch so I didn't play much, and would like a fresh start with other noobs when it launches again.  As much as I'm looking forward to this game, the latest videos are looking great, I'm not looking forward to trying to play catch up with everyone else on the servers being high level.

I think for beta phase4 every character will carry over to the actual release. And beta sign up start jan 7th. I know some of the toons from 1.0 will carry over to 2.0 but not sure how that all works, kinda confusing to me imo. But I wasnt a high lvl myself so doesnt matter and rather start new anyways with a male miquote. Could always just delete for fresh start.

There will be new servers at launch that are not able to be transferred to, also all Ps3 and PC players will be on the same servers. Old character's will be on the older servers and new characters will be able to to be made on thos servers as well.

EDIT: Found the FAQ

"Q) What are the “new” and “old” servers? What do they mean?

A) New servers are where everyone starts from the beginning. There is no transferring of v.1.0 accounts to these servers. Everyone starts from scratch. Old servers allow the transfer of your old account. The reason these are split is in order to maintain balance and fairness for new people who have never been in the game before to have a fair shot at the market and so old players can’t manipulate with their millions of gil they have acquired over the two years."

Enjoy

Nice. I am surely going to start on a fresh server. I had like 85million gils back in FFXI prexpacs, was so easy to manipulate the AH.

Yah the economy was my first concern,  I remeber leveling alt jobs in FF 11 and it would cost so much money for level 10 scale gear to head to the dunes,  I couldn't imagine being a new character trying to get money for that back then.

The other is I know if everyone else is at the cap when I start I will rush through to catch people,  I don't know how fast leveling is going to be with ARR, but I hope its pretty slow,  in comparison to the games lately.  And if I'm rushing to catch up Im afraid I'll miss some cool stuff the game has to offer

Individual classes/jobs won't be particularly time-consuming to level I don't believe. About what's normal for MMOs these days. YoshiP stated that it will be possible to reach the cap doing only the main story quests (though after that you'll have to find another way to level the remaining classes). You're kinda expected to level more than just one class though, especially since you need certain class combinations for certain jobs, and there will undoubtedly be many who aim to max everything so there is effectively a very high cap...

Does that mean if I have a character from 1.0 on Aegis (Located in Japan), I cannot transfer my account to a regional server (located on the west coast?).

Lag is the biggest issue for servers located in Japan....what's the point if North American players cannot play on North American servers?

North america will have its own datacenters I am pretty sure, I am not sure however if you will be able to transfer your account to a diffrent region or if it is region locked.

It will not be region locked, but upon launch of ARR, if I'm not mistaken it was said that all existing characters will be transferred to their specific region.  Then along with the free character/race change, you will then have the choice to choose whatever server/region you wish to play on., minus the new worlds as those are being reserved for new characters only.

Logic, reason and fact do not supersede human nature. Ignorance reigns without justice.

As odd as it may sound, I think you will be better off starting on a server that has Max level characters already on it.

Yoshi-P is already reducing everyone's gil by 90% (If you had 10,000,000 gil, you will have 1,000,000), in addition to lowering NPC prices on mats by 90% to match (not counting how much easier it would be for people to gather their own stuff by comparison to 1.0).

Taking that into account, the economy needs to basically start from scratch whether it's an old or new server, with the only difference being that you will have a large influx of every item imaginable at the start on the Auction House (with existing servers).  These items will likely be INCREDIBLY cheap for new players, in addition to there being veterans who are known to being very generous to new players in giving free stuff glore (on the server I was on, at least).

On a new server, items will be very rare as people either just focus on crafts that will take a decent time to level, or just worry about playing the game without level appropriate gear.  The items that do show up on the market are likely to be controlled by those who just focus on crafts at the beginning, who have little competition in a market with large demand (as no one has these items or the ability to craft them).

All in all, the economy will be in a dire state at start by comparison, and quite possibly  be in the same spot as existing servers one month after the game launches (though still highly likely that prices will be high in cost).  If you aren't one of the few who took crafting, you're at the bottom of the barrel, and if you are, you just wasted a month of your time and the server is essentially packed with crafters, the same as an existing one.  In addition, materials will also cost more to level crafting for these new servers as well, so you'll pay more there as well.

My advice would be joining an old server, making a few friends on the forums who might help you, and or making friends early in the game in which to help you level crafts and give you items 1-50 for basically free.

When faced with strife or discontent, the true nature of a man is brought forth. It is then when we see the character of the individual. It is then we are able to tell if he is mature enough to grin and bare it, or subject his fellow man to his complaints and woes.

Thats the issue, I want to work for it not getting it for free. Whats the fun in that? So new server still my best option.

The thing is the gil change means nothing to the actual players as their relative wealth remains the same; that change is just to artificially reduce inflation whilst they have the opportunity to do so. Yes a new economy will have to be established but those who were rich before will STILL be rich and STILL be fully capable of manipulating the auction house. A beginner starting on those servers will see the prices of materials on the auction house skyrocket much faster than on the new servers.

I'm planning on starting over on one of the new servers.  Seeing as ARR is almost an entirely new world, with a new storyline and way to play, I'd enjoy it better from the beginning than coming in on a high lvl char and steam-rolling everything.

I care more about story and the journey, than already being at the cap and just doing dungeons and raids.  I'll get to the cap again eventually, no hurry though!

Prices will be artificially high on old servers until the economy settles,  a lot of players converted their gil to materials or gear to try and safeguard against the 90% reduction in gil. So i'm exptecing a swamp in materials in the auction house though it may go the other way and players may hold out until the economy balances out.

If they have speeded up the levelling then I think low to mid level mats and equipment will be relatively cheap as players will be levelling their gathering and crafting jobs, players will be out levelling the gear faster than they obtain it, the high cost items are going to be in the mid 30's to lvl 50 equipment as players want their gear melded with materia and the equipment will last longer as the levelling curve straightens out.  For those that don't know, high level gear preferably lvl 49/50 is used to spirit link with, which is then broken to obtain materia to meld to their gear, giving additional stats. As far as I'm aware this system will still be used.

If you intend to join an older server, it will not be all doom and gloom, plenty of linkshells will take in new players, and I have no doubt these linkshells will have members that have high level crafters that will kit you out with gear and weapons.  Not all players from 1.0 have every job to lvl 50 and will enjoy the ride from level 1 with a new job.  FFXI and FFXIV has some of the best community members I have ever come across, and yes they do have the odd douche bag as all games do.

Yup, but I suspect those who have every class to lvl 50 and continue playing with their 1.0 characters will be leveling the new Arcanist class.  And then sometime after launch the Summoner job will also be added.

For those who have only played FFXI and are familier with that Job / Sub-job system, FFXIV is quite different.  Here you have to have 2 select classes at specific min levels in order to unlock the quest for said Job.  For example, to unlock the Warrior Soul Questline, you must get the Maurader class to lvl 30 and the Gladiator class to 15.  After you finish that questline, you earn the Soul of Warrior which allows you play as the Warrior Job.

I personally plan on making two new characters and level them up with different jobs, all the while having my old character remain my maxed craftsman.  That way I have two characters working on Battle Leves and one with Crafting Leves as they are granted every 12 hours and then accumulate up to 100 in ARR if not used.

Having one super character is tempting, but overall less efficient in the gil making scheme of things.  One thing about new servers is that the RP community is already set on existing realms to continue their stories, so if you're a role player it's pretty much determined where to go already if we don't want to split a niche community up as is.

When faced with strife or discontent, the true nature of a man is brought forth. It is then when we see the character of the individual. It is then we are able to tell if he is mature enough to grin and bare it, or subject his fellow man to his complaints and woes.

This was a major worry for a while, and perhaps still may be the case.  Though Yosh-P said it was a bad idea to trade items to save for 2.0 when the gil conversion was mentioned simply because it may be easier to get materials or items in question.  He already confirmed in a live letter to the producer that making materia and double melding will be much, much easier in A Realm Reborn and that there were improvements to gathering your own resources.  When people try to sell for obnoxiously large prices for these formerly top of the top tier items, there will be massive undercutting in no time.  In addition, those were for top tier items and not just adequate items, which were still cheap even up to the end of 1.0.

I've a few linshell mates who were thankful for this information a little while ago, as they originally spend tens of millions of gil on such items, but resold them prior to Yoshi's announcement.  Ultimately, the high tier items will have to pretty much have to resettle in the market as I initially said (with the medium still being low); people who thought themselves clever will try to start high, but will be forced to go low before long.  With one of my crafting shells especially, we intend to set excellent prices for low, medium and high level items if we see someone trying to gouge.
