I guess thats a fair comment.  Its just that I was mostly annoyed with Rim for making such a bald and somewhat arrogant statement and felt that you were mearly joining in to make matters worse.  However, I guess thats not really the case so for what its worth I apologize for my response, its just thats how it seemed like to me.  I do respect and understand that I may have overlooked the fact that players can't necessarily attack each other depending on their skill level but my main point was that I don't see how AoW is considered up there with ArcheAge but thats my opinion, either way I found it ludicris that someone was stating otherwise.

I don't find it ludicris at all, yes i'm looking forward to ArcheAge as well. Some of the things you mentioned were wrong, like the PVP flagging or the open world PVP and the skills system.

Age Of Wushu has no classes or levels, it's totally wide open skill based system where a player can learn every skill in the game. If you compare ArcheAge PVP system to Age Of Wushu then AOW is ahead on features.

Kidnapping

Bounty's

Prison

Public Executtions

Raids on other player forts and schools

You can join the police and hunt down PKs alongside NPCs.

I saw you say "That explains it." You got hammered a few times after that though lol. Regardless I hope you get back in. You wont be sorry.

The game doesn't keep you broke like other games and force you to use the cash shop. It's a free economy w/o stupid system money grabs. Free players will be just fine, since gear is alomst like a non factor, but they will progress slower do to not being able to offline. Free player can't have offline shops either.

Well, again, I was there to test and was greeted by the advertisments. I'm not trying to win anything, just explain my first experience. As I mentioned, there could be 20,000 thigns I missed in that starter area that didn't say "if you want to take part you have to be premium". But when my first few moments, my first attempts at finding out what the game was about, were reminders that I needed to be a payign customer for x an y, I couldn't take another step as I didn't know if I wanted to be a paying customer.

Nor was I that taken with the game to continue searching. How could I be taken with the game when I hadn't even started yet but already I knew that the few things I tried or read indicated that a premium member would be able to take part in it.

Even in LOTRO, you can start and play until you get to a new area and find out that you have to pay for quest packs.

My discovery that this was a soft launch doesn't invalidate my experience for me.

Thanks for that feedback.  I also support all the games I play, but I don't like being hit up for cash immediately after starting.  Is the game actually B2P?  So if I spend the $20 will my account and characters be equal to subscribers at that point?  What does the $20 cover?  Is it the sort of game that tries to funnel you into a subscription and cuts out key game features unless you subscribe?

B2P systems I like - GW2, TSW, TL2, and GW1

F2P systems I like - STO and RaiderZ

F2P systems I don't like, but am invested enough in the games that I put up with their model - EQ2, LotRO

To busy playing GW2 to post much around here... *shrug*

I'm fearing the cash shop will ruin another great game, if it's a great game, since there seem to be considerable localisation issues. I've experienced the open beta of Allods Online and they were the best few months of gaming, then one cash shop disaster after the other.

Gpotato for the Euro version, so I won't be touching it for a long time. Until they can keep this game on the right track with it's cash shop, I won't even consider playing it. Being raped by a greedy cash shop is something I can do without. The title is probably right on the money, but I'll wait and see. Maybe in 6 months time I'll need to take another look at this game.

Yet another paid for review. Everyone knows Open PvP means ganking and massively answer "it is easy to avoid"... and that is it. HOW to avoid it? That is never said. In fact, the open PvP were anyone can kill anyone regardless of level is not even touched up.

But I rolled a character was still in the starting village, someone walked up and with in 2 seconds I was down and out. Every attack can be blocked my ass.

How can a game be an open sandbox if anytime you are doing something or talking to a NPC, any high level can gank you?

Oh I see, greatest sandbox I will never play.

Finally, a honest review.

Open world pvp doesnt mean ganking lol. I play mostly crafter in sandboxes and lot of open world pvp games, and i rarely get ganked. How is it so many of you get ganked? My guess is you arent observant of your surroundings or run thru it like its a themepark lol. Because i have maybe been ganked 5-8 times in a decade.

If AoW is realy like that then its a game i will avoid, but often times people just exaggerate.

Anyone not beyond the first three interanal levels, can not be attacked, ( i seem to remeber 3, but someone in this thread said 5, could be) so newbies can not be killed.

Technically speaking it would be possible to play a PURE crafter/merchant/artist by not training you internal skils past 3 or 5. You will not be able to murder, or be murdered. I'm just now thinking of this, but it seems possible, and pretty cool I might add. The mjority of the mobs in game don't aggro either, so you could probably get the majority of everything you need. You can go anywhere right from creation.

When I eat chocolate chip pie it just doesn't feel like chocolate chip cookies. The texture, the consistency, it's just not the same and this is disappointing.

Yeah, seems legit.

While you're at it, point me to the AA NA/EU open beta so that I can play that instead of AoW.

Perhaps Massively answer like that because they have actually played the game, while people like you just spout ill-informed nonsense based on your prejudices against FFA games?

Excessive ganking is avoidable in AoW because there are harsh penalties for illegal PKing, which means those who want to PK innocent people will be hunted down by player police and bounty hunters, thrown in jail and executed. This means that the amount of people just hanging around actively griefing noobs is very small. Since there are so many legal ways to PK and PvP, the murderer lifestyle is only chosen by those who are commited to a perpetual cat-and-mouse game with the police and bounty hunters - the majority of players get their PvP fix in other areas.

Of course you'll still be ganked once in a while, but since the death penalty in AoW is laughable compared to other FFA games, death means next to nothing. You don't lose anything and ressing is fast.

But I guess some people just have to cry and uninstall when their pixels die. Perhaps you should have read that PvP warning sign before loggin in?

I was random attacked once since I started playing. I was using the autopath feature to get to some iron and a weak little Royal Guard attacked me, and killed me. That is the only time I have been attacked in a way I did not expect it.

I have been attacked while spying but I expected it.

I have been attacked while defending my school but I expected it.

Attacked in guild wars and while stealing scripts...attacked while in an instance by those assasins, attacked while kidnapping and attacked while hunting a kidnapper...but in all those instances it was to be expected. Anyone who has played this game would know its self evident why ganking isn't a probelm. I have yet to hear ANYONE in game complain about being ganked other than a few Team Practices that were broken apart by a spy gone rogue.

I keep getting Feb and May depending on where I look , need to look into this as 20 bucks would be well worth it to me if didnt have to wait till May to play.

that article nails it on the head. i was actually thinking of trying it out, but their weird cs scheme changed my mind. normally i can overlook all but the most absurd p2w (*coughallodscough*), but in a game like this, paying to level your character is awful. if it was 100% pve, then sure. who cares who hits cap first. but in a game with some many pvp features, one person being better faster is well on the road to the dark side.

Wait wait , is the article correct about the temporary nature of many of the paid items ?

I've got zero issue with open FFA PVP , cash shops , harsh learning curve , whatever ,

But are you telling me that if I buy an inventory bag to hold more items it goes poof after 100 hours (or whatever the article stated it would ) ?

Deal breaker for me if thats the case , temporary clothing items/bags , whatever that are cash shop items screams the company running it will be nickel and diming worse than a certain pay us for UI bars is right now.

Sigh.

Yes, the article is correct about it. But take into account that you won't be able to buy an inventory bag or anything else that is player made (at least that's what they stated). For instance, the items offered at the shop (CB2) are purely cosmetic; in other words, if you want a better weapon you'll need a blacksmith, better armor you'll need a tailor, etc.

On the other hand, I really hope they stay true to their word

Technically speaking it would be possible to play a PURE crafter/merchant/artist by not training you internal skils past 3 or 5. You will not be able to murder, or be murdered. I'm just now thinking of this, but it seems possible, and pretty cool I might add. The mjority of the mobs in game don't aggro either, so you could probably get the majority of everything you need. You can go anywhere right from creation.

A player who remained schooless will be out of newbie protection once his beginner internal skill reached level 5.

I seem to remember being attacked when i achieved level 4 in a school internal skill once - but by then a player would  have already  acquired at least  1 or 2 level of the beginner (non-school) internal skill cultivated in addition to their first school internal skill.

The thumb of rule is this, when the game system inform you that your character can start learning  the collecting (mining, fishing etc) skill then you are out of the newbie protection and can be attacked by other players without warning (forced PvP).

Conversely, a character in newbie protection cannot do any collection or crafting - nor can he attack other players.

I think it is a reasonable design, otherwise you would see hordes of newbie protected players exploiting this to choke and farm out the resource nodes in this game.

Thank you. Good info here.

When I eat chocolate chip pie it just doesn't feel like chocolate chip cookies. The texture, the consistency, it's just not the same and this is disappointing.

Massively is correct, the genre is a turnoff.

But I can see bunches of people it will actually be a plus for too.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
